Yes, it's called Death/Rebirth or something like that. Honestly you're not missing much if you don't decide to watch it, but I'd still recommend you do anyway just because of its importance to anime history. Even still, it was a one and done for me.

The pilots didn't build the Evas or have any input into their design. While teams of engineers were working on that shit for years before the Angels showed up, and building the infrastructure for spare parts because Evas tend to get their shit wrecked every fight. Even if the pilot put a bunch of stickers or something on the side, the next time the Eva takes a hit they have to replace all the armor, and all the replacement parts will be in the original color scheme and stuff.
As for therapists, Nerv didn't have them because Japan generally doesn't have them. It was even worse in the 90s than it is now, but even today there is a heavy social stigma in Japan about seeking out help for your brain problems. Culturally, you are expected to suffer in silence and not make yourself a burden on others.
So if your wife dies and you seek out help in the form of grief counseling, if anyone ever finds out you can expect a similar reaction to you going out into the street totally unwashed and in filthy clothing, begging total strangers for help cleaning yourself because you are a totally incompetent child who can't care for themself.
Its not a healthy way to deal with things, but thats how you end up with high suicide rates and people so burned out on the world that they retreat into hikki lifestyles.
Including therapists for the cast in Evangelion would have seemed strange and out of place to 90s Japanese viewers, and they would consider the cats to be even weaker and more worthless than they are now, even if that therapy actually made them better in the long run.
