Space battles in sci-fi make no sense. Ships fly as if there's still atmosphere. How exactly are these ships changing directions? They have aero-deynamic shapes.
I'm not sure what real battles would look like. But it wouldn't be this. Not a single thing as done it right.

Yeah, real battles would be drones with mirrors vaporizing ships from thousands of miles away. i.e., boring as fuck.

Depending on who you listen to its either laser submarines or its dodging missiles
They'd probably do something with thrust vectoring like Macross, but have it on the front and rear of the fighter so it can change directions very rapidly.
Man, Stargate still looks pretty good.
