Super intelligent super race of super ghosts from the super future.

They, among other things, taught a bunch of kids how to make a bomb that would turn a finite Multiverse into an infinite Multiverse. At some point in their distant pass, they had a spaceship called The CITY, which was as large as the universe and was mining supermassive blackholes.

The same author made a series called the Xeelee Sequence, which featured such lovely technology such as handguns which could cause stars to collapse in on themselves and armor made from condensed spacetime.

'TAS-21 NEEDLE

The needle is an evolution of the guided cruise missile. Inserted behind enemy lines by sea, or by HALO air drop, the needle then advances on all fours to optimal vantage points whose coordinates are continuously fed by satellite observation. Once in place the Needle goes dormant and conceals itself until the designated target comes within range, at which point the cruise missile launches and the exoskeleton detonates to keep its technology out of enemy hands.

Key Features-
-Communications array extends from split rear bay.
-Initial targeting sensor paints the objective with a marker and feeds the information to the cruise missile’s internal guidance system before firing.
-Highly accomodating base and frame allow new cruise missiles to be retrofitted for use in the Needle.
-Fore feet can actually function as opposable digits to facilitate access to precipitous vantage points, and even climb trees and buildings.
-Small gas cannisters on side can emit obscuring smoke and chafe to buy time in the case of concealment being compromised to allow the Needle enough time to hastily fire and self-destruct.'

Infinity's TAGs are pretty good in this regard being both aesthetically pleasing and reasonably hard sci-fi.

They do seem to me to be about as big as a mecha could feasibly be.

Armored Core is a series where you get to build your own Gundam in a universe where everyone other than enemy aces is piloting a fucking Ball, except the poor saps who are piloting a Ball without a gun

Don't let the grunt-tier player ACs of V/D fool you, they're just Victory era Gundams, still vastly superior to any nonlimited MP unit in the game, and also capable of gespenst kicking motherfuckers so hard they explode, prancing across the battlefield like standard issue invincible MC machines

Ahaha, holy shit
VD is basically a dumbed down of the AC in the universe, since its a apocallyptic mish mash project of leftover corporations. Its even need to team with other AC to fuck shit up. Its still fucked if bunch of mooks coming to get ya.

It doesn't even have a radar m8.

>>14283659
>4 is not more super than the other series

Yes it is, it can go 700 kph in normal, and 1500-2000 kph in OB, unlimited thrust (even it will charge much slower) when skating and fliying, radar that detect everything even if it basic, and also have armament of instant fuck you on its own (assault armor anyone).

Other AC however, can only go 350 at best, 600-700 at OB, even that has very limited thruster. Oh and know that the war mission in 3, you practically gonna fucked to shit by that pesky mooks if you don't control your movement wisely, even in upgraded AC.

I'm not that guy, but super/real is not related to power, it's related to in-game justification of the mech's workings.
In the 4th gen games, Kojima engines are integrated into a lot of different machines and technology, it's not perfect, and it's explicitly explained why NEXTs are so great.
They're not super, they're simply more advanced.

Even then, not all ACs are in the same timeline so it's kind of pointless to compare, say 3 and 4.
>>
The problem you always end up with these threads, is that there is very little room for plausible MILITARY Mecha. To have a mecha with a cockpit, (to distinguishes it from power armor) and also legs (what makes it not a tank) is going to going to result in a mecha that is at least 6-10 ft tall. But at this point, your an easier target than a tank, and can carry far less armor. All for leg based (usually bipedal) movement.

But the movement doesn't save your mech's plausibility either. A modern tank can hit 70 mph, and traverse all but the most rugged terrain. And in sufficiently rugged terrain to stop a tank, what you really want is infantry, which will be stronger in the close quarters combat that comes with such rugged terrain.

In the end, there really isn't a good case for hard-scifi military mechs, at least not as first line equipment in nations with proper militaries. There may be some room for industrial mecha, and in turn, there may be room to justify arming industrial mecha if a group doesn't have access to real military equipment, But Tanks are going to remain superior.

There is also plenty of room to argue for hard-scifi power armor, but that is another story.

Still, "realistic" looking mechs are great to look at, but that is separate from hard-scifi.
>>
>>14284219

>>14268467

>>
>>14264168
Realistic, realistic mechs are:
1) Glorified construction aids.
2) Going to resemble fast Supers a lot more than your beloved 'walking tanks', because the one and only reason you might want to have a bipedal machine is for increased mobility.
>>
>>14284219
There's actually room available for a military mech to exist, and another guy once pointed it out to me. You basically have to think of a military mecha as a land-based helicopter. Something that isn't necessarily faster than a tank, but something much more agile than it.
>>
>>14286964
A military with money would just use a helicopter. A military without money would use a technical or ATGM carrier.
>>
>>14287040
What if urban warfare?
>>
>>14286964
That makes little sense; especially as tanks are actually more agile than most vehicles on a battlefield; they're a little slower, but they can travel rough terrain faster and have a top speed usually of around 60mph or so which isn't slouching by anyone's standards.
>>
>>14287043
Why would you bring a unit with a high vertical profile and little armour into urban warfare? When you're fighting in a built up area, you want to be tough and you want to be low. Or you want to be fast and have the standoff distance like a helicopter. Anything else is just an easier way to carry heavy weaponry and a technical can do that much cheaper and easier than a robot.
