What does /m/ think of Sakura Wars? Should I take my thread to /vg/? What are your favorite Koubus? Is your favorite girl Erica Fontaine? If not, have you considered switching to our clumsy lord and savoir? She will love you unconditionally, anon, for she is a pure woman.

I remember liking it

>new game never
>characters stuck as cameos in mobile games
this isn't the future I signed up for
>>14262051
I'm sorry. We can hope the pc ports get translated some day.
>>14262058
I just watched the Ecole De Paris OVAs last night. I wish they would just straight up do anime adaptions of the games to celebrate the 20th, but they would need to find replacement voice actors I think?
>>14262064
A Sakura Wars set in the UK would probably just be a rehash of 3 but with a different kagekidan, sadly. But hey, at least Erica made it into Granblue, and maybe we'll get more than just Sakura costumes/voice tickets in the upcoming PSO2 collab.I'm holding out for Katana and Costume skins for Ogami along with a voice ticket and an Erica costume/dual gun skin for Gabriel and Raphael along with a voice ticket. Common Sega don't let me down.
>>14262076
>A Sakura Wars set in the UK would probably just be a rehash of 3 but with a different kagekidan
Why even bother setting them outside of Japan. The one that did got translated was set during an interesting part of American history and all anyone could yammer on about was how cool Japan is, to an INSANELY annoying degree.
I only know of this series thanks to PXZ. Characters seem pretty interesting and it being a Sega IP is enough to make be interested. Might have to look through a playthrough on youtube sometime or something.
>>14262084
I still want to play the fifth game at some point.
>>14262086
Same to be completely honest. I fell in love with Mihata No Moto Ni the second I heard it. Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan and Chijouno Senshi took a while though.
>>14262092
>I still want to play the fifth game at some point.
No you don't. It's dreadful. The girls all suck too. I don't usually look for HUGE depth in my harem game characters but fuck they where one note.
>Im a lawyer! Everything I say is about THE LAW! DID I MENTION I WAS A LAWYER.
>Im the one on the box! I have a katana! Japan is awesome.
>Definite possible trap?
>>14262102
The game I really want to play is 3 to be completely honest. Thanks for your opinion though, I'll keep it in mind when I'm playing 5 to learn how to play the series in general and hating myself for it.
I've only seen the first anime series, I should really get around to watch the others, and I doubt I'll ever get to play the games. I also really like Kohran.
>>14262115
She's pretty good from what I've seen. She does insane shit from time to time as a good scientist in a fictional setting should, too.
>>14262102
>>14262104
In hindsught, it's a shame that the first game if the series that they brought over was V. I can understand why they translated it first, since it was the most recent game and it was set in America, but I wonder if Sakura Taisen might have been more successful in the West if they'd translated the remake or ST3 first.
>>14262223
the remake of the third game was what I wanted to play, I'm not even going to attempt to lie, 3 is my favorite setting in the franchise.
>>14262033
>Got Sakura and Erica's nendos
>Gemini Nendo never
I finished the first game a while ago. It had the best presentation out of any game i played, but fuck. The story was really bland and just plain boring. And the "Free Roam" sections where you just have to go to the correct place to advance the story were fucking dreadful. The gameplay would be great but it's (logically) dated as fuck and the maps were too big. Sakura is best girl.
>>14262033
Love Sakura Taisen, managed to play the games that came out on PS2 (the ST1 remake, ST 3 port and ST5). Favourite model Koubus are the personalised ones from the ST1 remake.
Also, Sakura is and shall forever be my waifu.
>>14262261
You'd think that with this year being an anniversary year there'd be more merchandise out. Although I'd prefer it if some of the girls who aren't main girls got the Nendoroid treatment (specifically Sumire, Iris and Coquelicot).
>>14262314
>Sakura is best girl.
Mah nigga.
>>14262033
I want to protect this smile.
>>14262033
>What are your favorite Koubus?
I'd say my favorite base models are the Koubu F, and my favorite upgraded models are the Jinbu. The triangular vents on the Koubu-Kai and Mk. IIs just ruin things for me, especially for the latter (can't unsee cat ears.) The Eisenkleids are pretty rad, though.
>>14262390
Wish i could play the remake instead of og sakura taisen. Too bad my japanese isnt good enough and the guide that exists for 1 isnt compatible with the remake.
>>14262503
Eh, I don't understand japanese either and just winged it when playing the remake. Was still able to get all the girls endings (took some save scumming though).
>>14262051
The PC version of 1 is getting translated by Iwakura Productions, but god knows when that'll be done.

>Is your favorite girl Erica Fontaine?
Not quite. I could certainly get with her as a character, but back when I first played through it seemed like they used her clumsiness as a catch-all for somewhat lazy comedy, which kinda turned me off to her.
I'd say my favorite routes from 3 were Lobelia's, Hanabi's, and Glycine's. I just love how Lobelia constantly tried to shove Ohgami out of his comfort zone, and the Les Miserables reference in her song's title was a nice touch, too. Hanabi's was the polar opposite, giving him a spot of comfortable familiarity while having her deep-seated personal issues dampening things until the battle with Masque du Corbeau. Glycine kicked all sorts of ass consistently and I loved her antagonism towards Sumire when the TeiGeki visited Paris in that one chapter towards the middle of the game.
For Teito, Sakura, Sumire, and Kohran are my top 3.
And as for 2, I did very much like Orihime's route. I'll have to go back and play Leni's sometime.
What is with all the tripfags?
Any love for STARs?
>>14262873
The STARs are... okay, IMO. It feels like they had to sacrifice some things in order to make the transformation gimmick work. The relatively small, integrated weapons and their tiny hands don't seem to match the kinda SD aesthetic the previous series mechs had, and hurts their overall individuality. Rikka's STAR is pretty cool in terms of color scheme and the poncho shields, though.
>>14262033
/m/ - /v/ general
>>14262033
I love the games. Anime was okay, but I didn't really like the changes they made.
Favourite Koubus are Ogami's and Erica's. I'm a sucker for dual wielding and winged robots.
I do like Erica very much, but Sakura will be my favourite ST girl forever. I can't wait to pre-order the Koto scale, once they will finally announce the release date
>>14262064
>new game never

It hurts so much. At least they are pretty important in both PxZ games, I guess...
I want a Sakura Taisen X Valkyria Chronicle
>>14262064
>new game never
>characters stuck as cameos in mobile games
I wonder why SEGA never did a HD remaster for the games released in PS2 for later consoles or even PC. Would have been a way to keep interest in the series going and maybe even make a bit of profit.
>SEGA in charge of not running a franchise into the ground
Oh yeah.
>>14263445
I've been waiting for the preorders to open up on that figure too. Hopefully it gets released this year.
>>14264089
>We'll never get a ST game that uses the VC engine.
Goddammit I hate SEGA so much.
>>14262223

>>14262496
fuck, now I can't unsee the cat ears either, thanks.
>>14262600

>>14262712
we love to crawl out of the woodwork
>>14262873
I think they look kinda nice?
>>14264153
I wish sega was smart
>>14264210
I'm still not sure what made p3/4 popular.
>>14262033
The weird thing about Sakura Wars is although the series itself died, other JRPGs have just morphed into Sakura Wars.
Persona and Fire Emblem lost all of their own previous identity and just turned into new Sakura Wars games.
>>14264487
>I'm still not sure what made p3/4 popular.
certainly wasn't the writing. I mean 3 was OKAY shit at least happened. There WAS a story but fuck was 4 just boring.
>>14264692
holy shit. Mind=Blown, I actually did not realize this.
>>14264698
I actually liked persona 4 better despite playing persona 3 portable first. Less foreground angst.
>>14264712
It's MECHANICALLY a better game but there's nothing to engage the narrative and the player to stick with it for 60+ hours
The characters are all wooden planks and there's no urgency to anything. It's supposed to be a detective mystery but the IT does fuck all for detective work.
>>14264210
The game came out the same month as Final Fantasy XIII, so it was doomed to flop it seems.
>>14264743
yeah, persona 4's plot is kinda bland, golden doesn't do a good job on expanding it, but hey, if you treat it as set up for the arena games, the plot suddenly becomes a little less boring. Or if you focus on how fucked up everyone is on a personal level.
>>14264745
that explains why I hadn't heard about it until project x zone, the lacklusteriest of all lacklust ff games overshadowed it.
I played 5 and I thought it was trash 2bh
>>14264767
>Or if you focus on how fucked up everyone is on a personal level.
They're not though. Yukai and Mitsuru are fucked up. Lisa and Jun are fucked up.
The P4 cast don't have issues or problems. They're less fucked up than an episode of Saved by the Bell.
"I don't want to run my family inn, oh wait yes I do" isn't a problem.
compare to Michel who had to deal with an abusive parent that terrified him trying to take his dream away Yukari's shit is retarded. We don't even see her try to confront her mom or the inn get forced on her at all. The worst she has to put up with is missing out on the occasional food court run because heaven forbid she help her family some.
The worst problems in P4 are laughably trivial compared to what the characters in other games have to put up with. They're not troubled kids they're idiots whining about how good they have it.
>>14264807
that second Yukari should be Yukiko.
Im a bit drunk right now.
>>14264804
nice gif.
>>14264807
I was talking about Dojima and Adachi actually
>>14264824
Dojima's wife plot doesn't get enough actual focus to count and Adachi was just a cry baby man child who also didn't get enough actual focus.
He got a last minute tirade about the world being shit when we saw him get nothing but kindness. It was lame and made no sense at all.
I really wish Dojima was the killer if the rumor was true
>>14262488
OHAYO OHAYO BONJOUR
>>14265741
OHAYO OHAYO BONJOUR!
>>14264210
Maybe not for the fans, but I can totally see some executives believing 'set in america = more appealing to Americans' compared to the other games set in Japan and France when deciding on which of the games to localise. Personally, I think they should have started with the PS2 remake of the first game instead.
I'm mid-way through playing the first one.
Good setting, good heroines.
Don't like wandering around trying to figure out how to trigger events in the ADV parts.
Battle system is probably a bit too simplistic for my tastes but I suppose it was never intended to be some kind of super detailed complex simulation so no point in griping about that.
>>14264692
Not to mention all those LNs that crib off the whole 'only guy with powers put into command of a squad of cute girls' concept, although giving even less personalities to the characters. It still strikes that Ohgami, a video game character deliberately designed to allow players to self insert still has more personality than all these Light Novel MC's put together.
>>14265991
>Good setting, good heroines.
wasn't it set during the Bakamatsu? I have a huge Bakamatsu boner
>>14266102
No.
>>14266102
It's Taisho I think, not familiar with my Japanese history time periods. It's definitely Post World War 1 though.
>>14266078
It works from both "sides," as it were. On one hand, Ohgami's established character going into the first game is well-established. On the other, he's allowed to change over time, through the player's choices, depending on what girl's route you're playing through. What you tend to get now is more the illusion of choice and the spectre of character growth (i.e. no matter how much they tease the audience to the contrary Generic Light Novel MC will always end up with Default Girl.) I think it really helps that the conceived him as an adult to give him a more "real" base.
>>14266110
Dang.
>>14266122
>It's Taisho I think
eh I was off by what? 45 years?
>>14262064
>>14262076
>>14262600
Even these cameos and collabos are disappointing now.
>Only adding costumes of Ogami and Sakura, and a mag device to turn your mag's appearance into either of the two's Koubus. >Nothing about the other characters.
pso2 will inevitably crash in a few years too since they only pander to new users and barely add endgame contents for veterans. Like my old ISP who only deals with new subscribers problems and let the old ones rot if they ever have routers problems or such. The staff of pso2 did say in interviews that in summary they want the game to be a social platform rather than a game, that's why the game is ultra hard when soloing and ultra easy when partying, some UIs of the game are bad on purpose so people feel more the need to communicate etc. But even if they consider it a social game it could still be better.
No new/remake/port of Virtual On, Sakura Taisen, Skies Of Arcadia and more.
I keep wondering if there's any way of making Sega change their ways. There's a survey going on right now about Senjo no Valkyria, you can beg for the others to get PC ports on it. http://valkyria.sega.com/vcr/survey/
Sakura Wars and Valkyria Chronicles crossover when?
>>14267502
Never because SEGA hates money.
>>14267488
The GBF collab gave you Sakura, Erica and Gemini as characters, they're honestly pretty fun to use since they get into their koubou once they use their special attack and stay there for 10 turns or until they special attack again, Gemini does damage but explodes because lowest hp+def down+aggro up means she gets focus fired and explodes if you don't manage to kill the boss, Sakura is pretty balanced and vanilla, Erica is a healbot with revive who heals on special attack instead of doing damage.
>>14266122
>Post World War 1
Was there a World War 1 in Sakura Wars universe? I can't remember if the demon war (or whatever they call it) took its place, or broke out in the middle of WWI, or what. I need to go and give the whole series a good re-play/watch/read one of these days.
>>14267950
I'm pretty sure the demon wars happened in place of World War I, accompanied by a breakthrough in steam technology.
Sakura Taisen has some confusing lore.
>>14267950
I don't think WW1 had the chance to happen/happen yet in Sakura Wars. The reasoning being that the Kagekidan troupes are too busy fighting off demons. I mean hell they're literally everywhere.
>>14266122
Yes, it's Taisho.
>>14267950
Yeah, no WW1. And by the looks of it, no WW2 either, since collaboration between countries seems good due to there being demons flying around everywhere.
Sumire is the best!
is Ichiro Ogami the best Harem protagonist ever?
seriously how come we are plagued with so many Betas for this archetype?
>>14270668Cha cha cha!
>>14270706
He's not one of the best. He's just surrounded by actual competent women.
>>14262033
I've only ever watch the TV series, OVAs, and movie. Still need to watch the New York OVAs. My first encounter with Sakura Wars was a portrait of Sakura from a Game Boy game in a Tips & Tricks magazine. I instantly knew she was the one for me.
>>14262600
Well, I guess I gonna come back to PSO2 now.
>>14270668
Sakura may be my number 1, but I love me some bare shoulders tho.
>>14271025
>Sakura may be my number 1, but I love me some bare shoulders tho.
Same here. I love Sakura, but Sumire's shoulders are so lickable...
Which Sakura Wars game is the best?
>>14271186
2 was great but i heard 3 had the best production value
>>14267950
>>14268166
The PS2 remake has a new cutscene that shows the Hoshigumi fighting some unknown mecha in Europe. In Japan, there was the Kouma War, where Yoneda, Sakura's father, Ayame andAoi Satanfought in.
>>14262033
forgive my ignorance but is this a series of games, ovas or waht?
>>14272601
Games, OVAs, TV series, movies, stage shows and musicals, manga, drama CDs, novels, radio plays, and probably other forms of media that I'm forgetting.
>>14272641
>stage shows
How's that work?
mecha wise
>>14273670
I have no idea. But I know that they exist. I assume they have a screen in back for mecha battles if they even happen.
>>14273670
There's no mecha action at all. It's just the actors dressed up as their characters singing.
And it's great.
>>14275176
oh. well that's cool. I guess.
