I prefer G-Recongustia as a show, but I'm considering giving it to Barbatos. Honestly though, I don't really like either design personally. G-Self looks too fisher pricey, and Barbatos looks awkward, stiff, and skinny. Like it's about to collapse in on itself.

Barbatos by a minuscule amount (I tend to prefer designs with sharper edges than round). That being said, The G-Self looked REALLY good in motion in the show.

As a base design barbie almost wins if it weren't for having a twiglet as a midsection, they also do a lot more in the show to make the g-self look interesting. With packs the G-self tacks it by a landslide as it had an interesting range of packs, not just here is a white slab that looks ugly

id say g self edges out slightly for personally because i prefer the more complete look and the smooth slightly rounded finish it has. Theres no gaps in the armour, or parts sticking out, or loose cabling that looks like it would get caught on stuff in a fight. The barbatos is cool but that form 6 with the graze ritter parts really turned me off of it
I love G-self's design.
Personally I think that the only cool thing Barbatos has going for it are the big ass mace/spear and now the hammer. The somewhat unique design was nice as well, though to be honest, the impracticality of it makes it a con imo.
I watched G Reco after slogging through IBO pt1, and I've got to say I appreciate the G Self a lot more. I thought most of the backpacks were really cool, though some of the cooler attacks were not used enough. Trick pack 4 lyfe.

Also even the forms and packs I don't think look so good still work in visually appealing ways. When they're doing whatever they're supposed to do there's always something nice to look at.
In comparison, Barbatos is kinda boring. I'm also not a fan of it's super thin waist.

I'd say both are at about the same level of good/flawed.
G-Self is probably the simpler design to animate, as it's less obvious when it's slightly off-model. This means you get more and better action out of it on a TV budget. It also has those adorable big eyes. However, it also has a few really stupid packs, and does some absurdly OP shit at times that remove almost all sense of tension from its fights.
Barbatos managed to do something relatively unorthodox by Gundam standards and make it work. It's visually more interesting, and the "slap on salvaged components to complete its armor" thing was cool while it lasted, though I wish they'd done more with it. However, the complicated nature of its design, and melee-focused combat means that it's harder (and thus more expensive) to animate, meaning we get fewer fights and it's way more obvious when it's off-model.
It also means I'll be waiting until we (hopefully) get an MG Barbatos, because I just don't feel a lower-grade or smaller-scale kit will do it justice at all.

Well he mostly has the right ideas. The idea of salvaging parts is cool, but they only did it like once and the rest of the time had new parts be given to them. The design was obviously too complex to animate, but the melee element didn't really have much to do with it cause it was mostly one hit kills like normal. Whether the show was more expensive or not is just not known but there obviously were budget issues and considering the lack of fights despite the need for padding it would suggest they lacked money for fights

Barbatos is just the Gaeon redesigned as a Gundam. G-Self is superior. All of the G-Self's backpacks are way more unique and interesting. Barbatos doesn't really change all that much, except for adding a single piece of armor that gets used once and is never seen again.

I prefer G-Self, it's a more conventional design with nice proportions and nice colors. I prefer it without any packs attached.
The Barbatos is pretty ugly. The way those round, bulbous shoulders and knees are attached to an otherwise angular design don't do it for me. The paint scheme with the power symbols is also off-putting. Not a fan of its head with the massive V-fin center and the unfitting Gundam mouth vents either.

The Mortar Headd midsection is thin (on certain designs anyway, others are rather chunky), but because of its ) ( shape, it flows better with the body shape than the Barbatos's, which looks like a literal stick of a midsection.
