I'll say Elysion is a full sized Macross.
Since Elysion appeared to be some kind of mixture between the old and new designs, the class that the Elysion falls under probably was a design that was made after the SDF style ships but before the Battle-class was designed.
Considering that Macross 5(the fleet that colonised Rax and got mindcontrolled by the Protodevlin in 7) was using a Battle-class, that fleet that colonised Ragna probably was one of the even earlier New Macross class colonies, probably Macross 2 or 3, or even possibly Macross 1.
Also, Battle Frontier is actually slightly bigger than Battle 7 and is way heavier.

An obvious split front has been a thing since the Quarter. Regardless, the Battle/Quarter transformations place the arms forward; if you took the gunship out from a Battle-class it would have a catamaran lower hull, too. A lot of rumors are currently flying around as to Elysion's details as a possible in-betweener design for the SDFs and the Battle/Quarter types. Considering the layout of Macross-type vessels in general, a parallel-split front hull is a normal design to have.
In any case, the catamaran design of the SDF-3 in both initial and refitted versions is also more closely packed to each other than the Elysion's two Aethers so I don't see how the resemblance goes beyond a general similarity in silhouette that applies to plenty of other designs at once, including the aforementioned General Revil in >>14258517.

Greeble is formed mainly from protruding shapes out of the relative surface of the object. Neither the Elysion nor the SDF-3 abuses raised shapes, their superfluous detail comes mainly from panel lining. You want to find greebling at its finest example, try Star Destroyers or Borg ships.

IBO performed on par with G-Reco in many aspects. However, we're unsure of things like gunpla sales (the real moneymaker for Bandai) because those numbers are never released. See, both the Elysion and the SDF-3 have two large bulbs at the front of the "command hull," whereas other Macross have a single bow there. 7 had two hangars, whereas Frontier and Galaxy had large gun emplacements. When I say it's weird at the back, I mean the configuration of the engines and command section are weirdly similar; they're both splayed out in two clusters at the end with a space in-between, have the two bulbs at the front, and have a semi-recessed bridge in the middle where other Macross ships have towers that are prominently sticking out.

Those speculation are still firmly based on the setting. The fact is that Elysion has design elements from both the SDF and the Battle/Quarter.

That may all make sense to you. But look at the Elysion, then look at the SDF-3. All you're seeing is just similarity in layout, all of that pretty much applies to the White Base as well. In practice the Elysion looks way different than the SDF-3.

The speculation about the Elysion being a bridging design is not without reason. Most have noted:
- the legs resemble both the Battle/Quarter designs, yet the thigh section retains the blocky aesthetics of the SDF type.
- the Battle-class have torso hangar entrances, whereas the Quarter types don't - like the earlier SDF type.
- that the colonization of Ragna and nearby planets was done with very early fleets; Ragna's colonization was done by a very early New Macross fleet, the strategic fleet configuration that first introduced the Battle-class Macross types.

A single bow with its main features being separable parts. Also, as noted before, the Elysion closely resembles the Quarter, which smashes any pre-notion of its design being alien to Macross.

The torso of 7, Frontier, Galaxy, 5, and 13 all had hangar entrances. It's a feature of the Battle-class. Additional turrets placed upon the top deck near the bridge are unique to Frontier/Galaxy as of now.

The impression of a recessed bridge is likely your eyes being tricked by the Elysion's back prongs compared to its Battle-class contemporaries, where the head is the highest object available only because it has no back attachments. Elysion has a unique transformation, but its hull configuration is still nowhere near the SDF-3's beyond the most basic of layout classifications, shared by the Quarter. Both the Quarter/Elysion have splayed engines; the SDF-3's overall profile is nowhere near that wide apart.
I still maintain that this is just an expected coincidence rather than "reverse design-stealing", and I am looking through very loose criteria for "coincidence" here.

Even then Rex (a) doesn't die and (b) isn't a main character, so she hardly counts. It should also be noted that Miss chooses Hikaru in the original well before he chooses her thanks to the show's extension and that Sheryl declared her intentions to Alto early in the show, while he's hospitalised. Ranka declared at the same time, but so did Sheryl. It means essentially nothing.

Yeah, Delta Squadron is supposed to be some of the best because they have the job of protecting literally the only cure against the Ver. Hayate gets in on essentially a provisional basis due to his raw talent. Arad and Messer are skilled hardcore pilots. Chuck is at least competent, probably the best ace on Ragna where they're all based. But then you have Mirage, and she's total shit all the time. It's like she got in solely based on her name.
The show is 8 episodes in and Mirage is still dragging her feet. I feel like if they're not careful it could get to a point where Mirage finally straightens up and reveals her emotional baggage and whatever and it's too late, everyone is already tired of her bullshit by then.
Meanwhile every episode Freyja keeps getting better and better. It's going to be EVOL levels of anal bleeding if Mirage wins the Hayatebowl.

Heinze normally doesn't have any direct connection to the battle, he just sits in his room and sings his little heart out. Having some kind of interaction or feedback there could really through him off his game or even convince him not to fight at all, and if Heinz backs out the war is over for Windemere.
