I really like the TIE Striker, but while I like the prongs of the U-Fighter. I'm not big on the design as a whole. I think it's parts don't really meld well and it basically looks like someone stuck an X-wing to a snowspeeder and added some prongs to cover it up.

It's like that with the hero synopses as well, just very basic info along with a stock description, guess they don't want to give away too much.

As mentioned, people around here like Zeon too. But not without reason.

Stories pitting plucky rebels against a cruel, cold imperialist faction are as old as time. The heroes are earnest and optimistic, good guys that embody desirable traits like youth and humor and compassion and honor. The opposition are frigid bastards who forgo their humanity for a well-oiled overwhelming military machine. One side is colorful individuals, the other is drab samey uniformed soldiers. One side has pluck and ingenuity, maybe some magical mcguffin, the other has loads of training/tech/numbers to be threatening and nigh insurmountable.

That means that the villains resemble an actual freaking military with the best gear, and (unless they're just faceless fodder or mustache-twirlers) they get to have actual depth and character problems to show they're flawed people who deserve to lose. Meanwhile the heroes are often bland because they're either meant to be inserts for the audience, or are limited in their character palette because they still have to be paragons. Hell, a lot of shows the protagonist is boring as shit, and even his allies get better stories just because they're freer to be flawed or conflicted or morally grey.

> But they're still the bad guys! They did bad things!
But this is a board that admires robots, not necessarily what end they were put to. Cool ships and cool mechs and cool armor is more desirable than some bumpkin in a robe white-knighting.
>>
>>14243664
>That means that the villains resemble an actual freaking military with the best gear,
Yeah nothing as realistic as a solid white plastic man who canonically cannot see out of his own helmet.

So are Death Troopers the new OC donut steel stand-in for Dark Troopers?
>>
>>14242716
To be fair, they do describe Sheev's regime as an EVIL EMPIRE. Then again, that has all the subtlety of a brick to the face...
>>
>>14243664
Actually the Rebels are a certified terrorist group and the only reason the Empire is called evil is that's because the movies say so.

Dark Troopers were robots though. These just look like a new death squad

I like how some of the EU stuff tried to expand on this by having all kinds of criminals also branded as "rebels" or co-opting the label, and you occasionally had Imperial officers and soldiers whose main job was actually fighting pirates, slavers, genocidal xenos, etc. I'm hoping we get a counterpart comic book series or TV series about a band of brave Imperial officers fighting vile pirates or Separatist hold-outs who slowly come to realize their moral values are increasingly at odds with the men in charge.
>>
>>14242428
This seems to only exists to sell toys. I'm not a fan of retroactively adding a bunch of variants to existing designs.

I cant think of any role existing Rebel ships dont already cover.

> The leak comes courtesy of the Edelweiss book catalog, an online depository for new and upcoming releases used by booksellers, librarians, reviewers, and journalists.

> On Monday, Edelweiss posted a digital catalog for Media Lab Books featuring 10 advanced images from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: The Official Visual Guide, set for release on Jan. 24, 2017, one month after the Gareth Edwards-directed movie arrives in theaters on Dec. 16. There’s no credited author on the cover (Lucasfilm mainstay Pablo Hidalgo, who previously wrote The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, issued a #VagueTweet that seemed to deny his involvement) and the publisher has emblazoned all pages with a “Not Final” note, making it clear the text and images could change before the book hits shelves. (And on a close read, the text is pretty repetitious, suggesting that there’s lots of editing and rewriting to be done over the next few months.) Nevertheless, this Visual Guide — which boasts 160 pages of pictures and other bells and whistles — offers some insight into the identities of the spies who help make the Rebels’ victory at the Battle of Yavin possible.

So basically germanbros copped some preliminary images.

There's some shit about "high speed wings" my guess is air superiority, which matches some old cannon about tie-fighters being garbage in atmosphere.

It's somewhat feasible as long as we get to see them mostly in atmosphere. Unlike the U-wing, which looks like shit with no rhyme or reason.

Old EU had layers of canon. Stuff didn't just become canon because it was in a product. It became canon enough, which meant it could be overwritten by better material.

Though it was never managed all that well, it was still miles better than the "everything is equally canon regardless of where it was featured!" shit disney is pushing.

>blah blah custume designer
>SUDDEN SUBJECT CHANGE check out this Starfighter!

This book is all over the place. Random paragaphs unrelated to each other are just being thrown together.
>>
>>14243697
No. They're just the logical 'we need something new and stronger than stormtroopers for this' creation. Nobody is going back and looking at the EU for this.

Next thing you'll be saying the lead is a replacement for Jan Ors and her loser sidekick is supposed to be Kyle Katarn. That's a very popular delusion.

>>14245088

> "Death Troopers" first appeared in the Star Wars Legends novel of the same name as undead stormtroopers infested by a Sith plague dating back to the days of the Old Republic.

Mobile Command has Dark Troopers. There's also nothing saying the Death Troopers are Zombies, only that they originally were, since Lucasarts approved the idea several years before the Disney buy out.

It was literally "Death Troopers."

An evil sentient Dark Side-using plant from the Unknown Regions already known for "zombifying" people was found by the Empire and Vader commanded them to start experimenting on weaponizing it.
