Maybe it was regional, I worked at TRU and those kits sat on the shelves and not even 70% discount could move them. The action figures weren't exactly flying off of shelves but the stock rotated well enough.

Well America is mostly a franchise country. Look at the original Power Rangers they try so hard to make them all in one Universe in the same cast of characters. Pour out every Transformers series will be about Prime and Megatron, are all the different Batman series are Ninja Turtles series. America loves remakes and rehashes. Japan has a lot more creativity and audiences aren't as close minded. Ask any Western fan of Pokemon, Power Rangers, or YuGiOh and they'll be typical Gewunners and think only of the original series is good, meanwhile in Japan the recent series are generally more popular.
