Hey, /m/. I'm working my way through the Godzilla movies in order (watched Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster yesterday), and that's going great, but I'd like to mix things up a bit. Gamera is coming after Godzilla. Already watched both Rodan and Mothra. I've also already watched The Host and Pacific Rim.

What I'd like is recommendations for non-Godzilla, non-Gamera kaiju films from the past ten years or so. Some kind of big production would be great, but indie shit is fine if it's well-done for its budget and tells an interesting story.

I appreciate the recommendations, and I'll check them out eventually, but I asked specifically for recommendations from the past ten years or so. Looking for something that will be a major departure from the Showa Godzilla I'm working my way through now. Something very modern.

to continue with ignoring the modern thing
Atragon
Mothra
Rodan

I also explicitly said I'd already watched both Rodan and Mothra. Atragon is on my watch list.

Good fucking luck, anon. Kaiju films are dead as a genre, you only get gimmick films like Cloverfield (found footage) or deliberate cheesy throwbacks like Pacific Rim.

oh yeah, sorry lol

It's really the whole
>past 10 years
that's your entry hazard. The kaiju toku isn't THAT popular, and as such hit its boom years ago. There's always best korea's Pulgasari. but even that's 30 years old or so.

Don't act petulantly. YOU'RE asking for help. Not the other way around.
Age limit ignoring
>Frankenstein conquers the world
>War of the Gargantuas
>King Kong Escapes
>The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms
>Daimjin
>Gorgo
>Yonggary

No worries. Thanks anyway.

Didn't mean to come off as petulant or rude. Apologies if I did. Also, thanks for the recommendations. Hadn't heard of Daimjin or Yonggary.

Ultraman Mebius.

Yonggary is literally just South Korean Gorgo. I thought it was pretty damned funny. Basically people steal a monster for show and profit only to have its larger more ferocious parents kick their shit in trying to get it back.
>>
>>14209329
Except that doesn't happen, you giant faggot.
Yonggary's woken up by underground miners, and dies by bleeding out its anus after dancing to rock music with some kid.

Shit I think you're right! I was thinking of Gappa: The Triphibian Monster, which is a Japanese movie released the same year as Yonggary. My mistake. It got released in the states as Monster From a Prehistoric Planet.
