I wonder how she's been during that time. I feel she is likely to have distanced herself from the others. She might have been able to confide in Soshi or Canon but, well, you know.
Is Fafner the closest mecha has to offer as an art? The otherworldly styling of both the characters and the Fafners seem to be something that the mechanical designers and character designers of today seem to avoid entirely.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a case of Fafner being something of a pinnacle in both Japanese art and story telling. The themes of post-humanism as well as strength through suffering seem so common and reoccurrent that I can't help but see it as a, not only a classic piece of mecha history, but as a piece of art to the world.
Why is it that NOTHING has come close to matching the quality of Fafner's visuals and story telling? Is the mediocrity of today's artist because of their blatant lack of skill, or is Tow Ubukata just among the greatest storytellers of the world?

If you're interested in a character-driven story it's worth looking into.
Earlier episodes in the first season are debated a bit, but at this point the series is pretty much a huge labor of love by the staff.

The novel is also worth checking out. Shoko and Koyo characters are fleshed out, and Soushi is way more interesting character in it. It also explains where Festum's "Are you there?" comes from and why only children are able to pilot the Fafners.

Different, definitely, but I wouldn't say more interesting. He's basically a more normal guy from what I recall of the novel, instead of the awkward chuunibest boywe know and love.
That aside though, I wouldn't recommend the novel until at least watching DA, just to see the differences.

I feel that Reo needs some sort of meaningful plot role or character arc. I felt like he lacked narrative presence outside of some cool fights and he rarely interacted with anyone but Mimika.
I'd also like to see Mimika have some side-effects from her time as a sphere. That subplot felt like it had no lasting consequences. Maybe she could have some Esperanto psychic powers now?
Odds are pretty good that Jonathan will dramatically turn up to help the heroes. The real question is if the (old) Atlantis core will be a major villain and if Raison will get a redesign like Sein and Nicht. Speaking of the Atlantis core, I haven't heard much speculation about the newborn one. Do people think it's a reincarnation of Emily or an entirely new being?
We could also speculate on new Fafner colors that could be used. we're getting pretty far out there, so if Miwa gets a unit it will probably be some weird color like lilac. Actually, a lilac Fafner could be pretty cool.
Finally, will Soushi remain a child for the next project or will they age him up with the Mir? I imagine they could wait a while before the Mir ages him and he returns with Nicht at a critical juncture for maximum hype.

It's not gonna happen, but I wouldn't mind if the next thing was far away enough for Soushi to be at least minimum Fafner age, 14 or so. That'd also be enough time for Miwa to have aged enough to speak with Altair.
I feel like Soushi2 is going to be a pretty distinct character though, along the lines of Tsubaki and Orihime. Could be wrong, but it sure didn't seem like he had Soushi's memories in the brief scene as a two year old. As it is now, the Soushi we knew is dead.

I just want Miwa Fafner to have the insane sniping abilities that her aunt had along with the sword and general abilities of her father (remember, he did significant damage to Mark Nicht in the fucking Mark Ein of all things). So the Atlantis Mir is chillin at that (former?) NUN base in Prometheus's cave. That is unless Soushi mercing Vagrant took care of it as well. If it is still in play, I'd have a hard time believing it's gonna be friendly. Maybe it'll spawn a new Azazel-type and try and sabotage those peace talks. I'm not sure if the core in Vagrant that Nicht smashed was the same core in that Prometheus's cave. Maybe it got there via teleportation or something. Anyways, I think it's still likely a factor.

We see the Atlantis core after Vagrant dies, so I'd assume he's still out there. A good question would be if a core type can live without the Mir that generated it. It might be necessary to destroy that giant Gordian crystal in space to kill the old Atlantis core for good considering it houses the memories and hatred that spawned him.

I was referring to the new humanoid core it generates in the last episode. I know the new Atlantis Mir is just plain Ashoka. We briefly see the new core as a baby.

Do we know how Fenrir actually works? We don't see any other Worm Sphere based weapons in use, so I was wondering if it might involve blowing a Fafner's Mir core. It would fit with supplementary materials that mention the Salvator Models having three times the Fenrir payload in addition to three times the amount of Mir fragments.

By the way, so how did the actual thing about Kazuki damaging Soushi's eye go again?
I can't remember if they ever spelled it out outright so I'm going with my understanding: after they answer the Festum in this scene and reveal Tatsumiyajima, Kazuki gets hit by the mind control and stabs Soushi's eye with a crystal or something like that?

Yeah, DA 15 more or less shows enough of it to get the idea.
Soushi, lacking a sense of self because of his upbringing, easily falls victim to assimilation and tries to take Kazuki with him. Kazuki has no idea what's going on and attacks Soushi, saving him in the process.

I think the most important thing people should remember about this that it's two different incidents.
The first one was 7 years before the show, with all the kids there.
The eye incident was about 5 years before the show, with only Soushi and Kazuki.

They did, the twins' mother goes unnamed for some reason. "Yukimi" is probably a typo for Ikumi, grandma Nishio.
The Nothung situation really is odd. If the timeline is right, that could just be when the designs were completed and not the actual physical Fafners. Seems strange given the ridiculous manufacturing capability Alvis has, but we did see there weren't totally enough spare parts to go around in early DA.
I wouldn't place 100% faith in the timeline, it seems mostly right but I've seen some anons disagree with parts of the translation.

I'd assume yes, based on Fafners instead of Festum though. Seri's SDP involves assimilating and she can make them, plus the Nishio parents apparently got worm sphere'd in the Zero's cockpit, assuming that's who Kuramae was talking about in RoL.
