A long while back, someone here post scans of the interior artwork for the Japanese release of Dune. Does anyone have those scans saved?
It's funny how Ishinimori is the only one to ever get the look of Paul down right. It states in the novel he is 15, but small for his age. Everyone else draws him as a full grown adult, for some reason.
Posting the covers. Feel free to post Japanese interpretations of American sci fi properties.
Who do you think is on this cover? I think, from top to bottom, it's Paul, his mother, Stilgar's daughter (can't remember her name), Princess Ithuain, and I don't know the last. Reverend Mother, maybe?
Dune Messiah
Rerelease of Messiah, I believe this is the artist that did Legend of Galactic Heroes.
I've got a little bit for ants
some other random Dune stuff I have floating around
Cheers, Dorkly.
Here is the three covers of Children of Dune linked together.

it's so weird seeing the kids in Dune look like kids lol
Children rerelease.

Yeah, artist always seem to draw everyone way older then they should be.
Here comes everyone's favorite part, God Emperor of Dune.
Heretics of Dune.
And lastly, Chapterhouse: Dune. I don't think they bothered with Brian Herbert's garbage.
Anyone have anything to share? If not, my water is your water.
Not exactly sci-fi, but here's some Japanese Conan the Barbarian book covers.
penis
It looks like the artists that did those Dune covers also did the covers for the first couple of Guin Saga books.
It's uncanny how much Paul looks like Amuro a little. Any artwork of Stilgar as a Ghola?

Guin Saga was Suemi Jun, wasn't it?
>>14200980
Ah, no, my bad, Suemi Jun didn't start until halfway through the series. The earlier Guin covers were Katou Naoyuki (LoGH).

I love seeing what Japanese artists do for western novels, here's some Doctor Who stuff.
>>14205080
Whoops, forgot the image.
I'll dig through my folders for the Elric of Melnibone stuff that Yoshitaka Amano did. It's pretty interesting since Moorcock himself said they were his favorite interpretations of Elric
>>14205083
I love their Daleks too, they should have them cameo in a new episode or something.
>>14205080
Why's that?

C.L. Moore's "Shambleau"
Cover by Leiji Matsumoto

More of C.L. Moore's "Northwest Smith" series

It's just interesting, it's like the opposite of this.
Here we go, some of Amano's Moorcock work.

Given it's now just Japanese SF covers in general, I'm curious - anyone got any good Philip K. Dick ones? I mean, they get some strange enough art over here, I'm curious to see what Japan would do with them.

I don't understand the interest, but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

>there will never be an animated Elric movie in Vampire Hunter D style
>>14205168
>>14205166
>>14205175
It's weird how there never was an animated Elric ever. Even in that late 70s/early 80s period where you saw animators try more adult things for animation.
I remember hearing about a possible movie, but they talked about how playing Elric accurately would alienate audiences because how Melnibonean society is cruel and decadent. And also peiple would go "ew incest" because of his relationship with his cousin.
But yeah, I would offer my soul to Arioch if I could have Elric movies in the style of Vampire Hunter D. I love Bloodlust so much, just from an aesthetic point of view.

Have a Lensman cover.

When I first started reading the Foundation series it was really interesting, but by the time I finished it all I was just like
fuck off, Asimov.
Maybe reading the novels after having seen 00 just burned me off on the whole "i predicted it all, you know" twist.
>>14205229
>>14205230
Including the ones he wrote later? I've heard those aren't very good. I've only read the original Foundation trilogy, and it was great.
>>14205242
yeah original 3 is pretty good (but if you've already seen media where keikakus are exactly as it's not a cool)
last 2 are not so good. Asimov shouldn't have tried so hard at sexytimes.
>>14205184
>they talked about how playing Elric accurately would alienate audiences
That's why it would be great as an anime. No one would mind how fucked up it is. And Japan loves incest.
>>14205250
Math predicted this post.
>>14205251
That's one thing that's always fascinated me about Japan, is what do they think about the nerdy stuff we have over here, and I wonder if they feel same about us when we enjoy their nerdy stuff. I remember the Log Horizon author comparing it to "guys from the class across the hall crushing on class idol" or something like that.
But an Elric anime would be rad as hell. I'd be happy with Corum though.
>>14205267
Honestly, the coolest thing about Elric is stormbringer.
The idea of a demon race of swords that just constantly feed on souls is lovely. I know today it's not that unique or interesting, since so many people have copied it, but reading the original stories and seeing how Elric and Stormbringer played off one another was fantastic.
>>14205267
>>14205275
I actually like Corum a lot more. Having a big crystal alien hand and an eye that can summon zombified versions of the last living things he killed to fight for him is cooler than Stormbringer.
>>14205275
Yeah it's really funny how often fantasy has done the combo of Byronic pale-haired pretty boy + soul stealing sword + sometimes rides dragons, because of Elric.
It was pretty unique when he was first made.
>>14205275
And come to think of it, does that mean Chaos from the Rance games is another tribute to Stormbringer?
