I think I like what it's doing. It seems heavier and more tank-like than the acrobatic space gundams. The head is unarmored both because it's a sensor unit and because it's less vulnerable to infantry fire (similar to how the top armor of MBTs is lighter).
I also dig that it has a logistics container backpack instead of a mid-season spiky laser jetpack. A gundam probably can't store too much ammo internally and logistics are a nightmare even for small arms ammunition.

What do they do with the leftover mobile suits? You know, maybe discontinued models or destroyed ones in the aftermath of a battle. Scrap them? Recycle them? Have they ever acknowledged it? Do we see a MS junkyard at all?

You should watch Turn A Gundam. Most of the mass produced mecha were recovered from abandoned mobile suits. The same for space ships even. G Reco had a display of old rusted mobile suits too.

The way I always saw it was Degwin wanted his family in power, and he wanted spacenoid independence. To that end he was willing to start the fire and have Char's father assassinated to kick-start the revolution while also taking power. I suspected he wanted to fight off the Federation who would cave much easier and then he could sit back on his throne and feel like the ends justified the means.
He is undoubtedly a cunt but it feels like he never wanted the war to go on for as long as it did and never wanted it to get as big as it did. There's no point where I think of him as a warmonger who lusted for Feddie blood, nor do I see him being the one to suggest dropping colonies. It's his shitty kids who pushed for it.
Aside from Dozle. Dozle seems to really be his father's son. Not truly evil, but does want to see his enemies give in and is willing to get ruthless if he has to, but never enjoying it.

Wow these are great,and looking at them gave me an idea.
We really need another gundam series like 0080,one not centered on the conflict. It's really cool seeing how mobile suits show up in everyday life.
I could totally see them doing a series about a photojournalist who travels and takes photos, with most of them being of former war zones.
If bandai made that into an ova I'd cream myself, but sadly unless there's some twist near the end like one of his photos capturing a secret gundam while it was in development in the background.

This makes me really wish we got a show that just focused on day to day life in a space colony and kept the mech action to a minimum or cut it entirely. Not even as a slice-of-life thing, but an adaptation of The Plot to Assassinate Gihren or something along those lines that had intrigue, drama and action - just with a minimal amount of mechs involved.

Maybe others read/saw it differently, but in the original series, it really did seem like Degwin assassinated his friend, then drove the Deikun family into hiding from fear of being assassinated. Char's revenge is bit more understandable.
Origins felt like it went the exact opposite. It's heavily implied Zeon died of stress and Degwin just took over in the power vacuum while the Deikun family is caught in politics. It was the Zabi children that were the assholes (which I don't like because Kycilla actually seemed pretty sane in the anime, and I liked her character a lot. But she's a full on, power-hungry bitch in Origins).
