I think there's a decent story in Geist. It's just poorly made. Can work as an action movie in a cool post apocalyptic setting with some mystery. A good writer can hammer that out into a great 90 minute movie.

I see Geist listed as one of the most poorly animated anime ever made. That didn't really come across to me (am I just dumb?) but I heard the animation staff was shuffled around alot. Are there any sources for behind-the-scenes looks at Geist?
Also one of the producers of Geist was the director of Roots Search. Her only two works in the field. I think both Roots Search and Geist were animated (Geist at least patially) by Studio Live, who gave us wonderfull sankaku drawings of Dragon Ball.

Geist got a "Director's Cut" that fixed some animation errors and added a bit to it. That's what most people view today.
It's average OVA animation. Nothing special. Not too terrible. A lot of early cheap OVAs have the same level of animation.
Even in the 2nd movie, Geist is still the protagonist. Endless war is a good thing, and Krauser is bad for wanting to end the violence.
That is the mindset required to enjoy MD Geist. It's like a porno; the plot is only there to lend enough credibility to frame the real attraction: action.
Geist is all about action. The plot is never about 'right' or 'wrong' or 'reason', just about fighting as much as possible. For much of the first movie, the pursuit of violence lines up with the "right thing to do". But Geist doesn't give half of a moldy fuck about that, and neither should the viewer. Geist wants what is COOLEST, most BADASS, he wants your adolescent cheers of "metal as fuck!". And you want to cheer with him.
That's why, no matter how eccentric or weird the plot of "MD Geist" is, most criticisms can't touch it. Geist fans can never be convinced by Geist critics because the critics always miss the point.

Nigga literally EVERYTHING Geist does in the first OVA was to get his ass into Brain Palace and unleash the death force for a fight that will last for eternity like he always desired. Every scene that isn't him killing things is just a quick setup to a scene where he will eventually kill things. Pay attention to what Geist is doing during the moments of downtime he's either asking questions that revolve around when the next battle he wants to be involved with will take place or is gearing up for it.
