I think this manga had some pretty unique designs.
Were these largest real robot types in history of manga?

this one started so good with the invasion and then got so shit with love, sex and such, kinda sad.

Not even. The story is even vaguely modeled after Mazinger Z. Also, it was terrible besides the MC's robot design.

I just didnt liked, at the beginning I thought it was more about being invaded and such but then it goes for the relationship of the mc with his father, girlfriend and such.
Would be pretty cool if it was about being invaded by aliens.

It felt pointless and dumb. Romance is cool and sweet and comfy but I really didn't care for either the sauna orgy or the first-time sex between MC and Best Girl as the old man and his robot maids watched, because so much of the rest of the comic was cooler and more interesting.
If they'd replaced it with more realpolitiking with the aliens or more backroom deals with the defecting alien commander that would have ruled harder.

Thought it was pretty neat overall. I enjoyed the details like how they couldn't fire their ludicrous hypervelocity projectiles at a target below the horizon, stuff like that.

It just feels like he puts effort into his stuff. With Sonoda I've pretty much made my peace with the fact that if I read his stuff I'm gonna find like, one or two things objectionable or plain fucking stupid. The dude makes it pretty clear he likes guns and cars and babes and is gonna draw all of them really well. Gotta take the rough with the smooth sometimes I guess.

I admit it's been a while since I read them but off the top of my head:
Objectionable: 18y/o co-protagonist of Gunsmith Cats drawn, acts as, occasionally disguised as and often pointed out that she resembles a pre-teen girl. Most of the explicit scenes are about her and her much older boyfriend. I think it turned up in Exaxxion too where the girlfriend was drawn as much younger-looking than the MC, but don't quote me on that.
Stupid: Just random stuff dotted through the mangas really and I'll admit totally subjective. Weird representations of lesbians, that awful ending to Gunsmith Cats Burst, Exaxxion taking long breaks from the action to fuck.
You should still check them out if you're interested, they're fun and they have a really nice style to them, and he's got a flair for characters and action (just not stories). They just go off on weird tangents sometimes.

I got the impression that the author was trying to subvert the wise professor archetype from other super robot stories like Mazinger Z, by making him really morally reprehensible. but I can't remember what he actually did.

Oh sorry, somehow I totally missed those quotes. It's been a long time since I read it, too, but wasn't he somehow responsible for the aliens finding/attacking Earth in the first place? Also he wanted to use the war the aliens to take over Earth.
Finished reading it last night. The "grandfather" is less horrible than I remember. Just a pervert and sociopath.The "father"killed himself by accident trying to kill the grandfather when he realized he got cucked by his own dad.He's not even racist against the aliens and was planning on peace the whole time (provided they surrender and let him rule/protect the earth)
The villain still gets away Scot free and more or less accomplishes his goal of bring the most powerful entity on earth and not having to worry about homeworld.Although I'm not sure why the homeworld can't just send another Battleship now that the XXX unit is gone.

He didn't provoke the invasion, but he did build XXX using advanced alien tech that they had lost on earth thousands of years before and could no longer replicate. He did plan on ruling the earth, but it was more of an "I'm the only one qualified to protect it" thing.
