Don't you wish you were a kid watching anime in the 80's in Japan, /m/?

>>
Of course not. They didn't have the internet in the 80s, how would I shitpost?
>>
I'd rather go with the 90's for the Brave series.
>>
No because most 80s anime were incredibly shallow and toyetic. Put away your analog camera, shave your ironic mustache, and stop being a hipster, OP.
>>
>>14172207
short of the lack of modern amenities that we have today (internet, HD TV, large storage capacity for your computer) 1980's japan was actually about as good as it gets for Japan, at least economically) and otaku were pretty much non existent in the public eye
>>
>>14172229
I'd prefer not to witness the birth of otaku and how they eventually became part of the anime industry thank you very much.

Woah, Nagano ZZ Gundam kit on display.... fucking cool
I didnt realize Bandai was that serious about his design for the ZZ

A better world I think

This, watching the Brave series makes me feel like a small Japanese boy, sitting on the floor in front of the tv and cheering on muh favorite robut.
>>
What was the gundam community like back then?
>>

>that bit where the flash men jump in and the kids get all hype
Fuck, that was cute.
What's this from?
>>

Not shit like it is today.
>>
>>14172318
Instead they get to experience it from people in the real world
>>
>>14172165
I was a kid watching anime in the 80s, but not in japan.
>>
>>14172165
For all you fucks with 700 hours of anime logged, I hope you remember that there was no internet in the 80s.

In order to watch anime, if you were a kid, you had to actually sit down in front of a television once a week at a scheduled airing time for that program. Miss an episode, too fucking bad.

If you were an adult, maybe you could purchase recordings or something

But today, we have all the mecha anime from every decade til now (ie all the good stuff), online, ready for download at a touch. Free, easy, unlimited. What beats that?
>>
>>14172165
No because gundam models no are really cool.
I wouldn't mind being born in 2000 though. That way I'd be the same age as my brother.
>>
>>14172587
That's what I had to do to get my Tekkaman Blade fix
>>
>>14172601
>fuck upn
>>
>>14172590
Wish I was born this year. Then maybe, just maybe, I'd have been born in time for mecha and space travel.
>>
>>14172587
Once a week? They aired anime during the 7 days of the week here.
>>
>>14172611
Hey, maybe you were born in time for the creation of magic life-extending miracle drugs.

In which case you could extend your life and see the day when real mecha are made.

too bad neither will happen, huh?

Yeah, Nagano was pretty involved with ZZ. He worked on the setting and many mechanical designs, but not to the extent of L-Gaim.

You're looking at it. Kawamori and Mikimoto had their own Gundam fanclub in college and ended up creating Macross which was inspired by it in some ways.

I genuinely think that while the internet it overall a boon, obviously, it's created some really really shitty people by virtue of allowing them to find each other and reinforce their bullshit.

furries, /pol/tards, MRAs, Tumblrinas, list continues

>that one interview in Otaku no Video with the guy that VHS tapes every anime that airs so he can trade and sell them to other anime fans
>he gets a phone call in the middle of the interview asking about a Godmars tape
There's a certain neckbeard romanticism to that age.
>>
>>14174068

I honestly can't think of of any fanbase that got better thanks to the Internet.
>>
>>14174085

I need to actually pay attention to Dorkly one of these days and watch that.
>>
>>14174409
it's not quite the novelty it once was with the other "nerds doing nerd things" shows that have been made over the years, but it's interesting to see the glimpses of (fictionalized) pre-internet nerd stuff
>>
>>14174531

Yeah, but no one should ever watch Zimbabwe. Or most of those other shows.
