They keep trying to make her look cute even when is a moment killer at times.
I heard this has one of the Darker than Black writers, which kind of explains why the opening has a DtB vibe to it. I'll keep watching but the ugly mecha and stupid main heroine are making it difficult.

I think MC might be one of the best "Fish out of water" characters I've seen. He's not just scared, interested, and fascinated by the modern world, but he actively challenges it. I don't think watching him interact with modern technology and traditions will ever get old.
Also, Koharu is just amazing. In any given scene, just keep looking at her. She's so damn animated, expressive and all around funny.

'東雲' is an older form for "dawn"and the kanji literally mean "eastern clouds".

'神通川' is the name of a river. Literally translated it means "of spiritual / supernatural powers"
'黒鷺' refers to the egretta sacra / eastern reef egret bird literally.
But its context maybe something different later revealed in the anime
'岩屋' is a grotto; a cave.
'嗤う' is a form of '笑う'. In this form, it is laughter similar to '嘲笑う', which is suitable for what a demon would do
'舞う' can be used in other ways depending on context, e.g. "fluttering" (leafs, etc.), whirl/soar (a bird, etc.), and so on.

While calling anything "shoujo mecha" is retarded, especially as a marker of quality, there are some series that have clear shoujo aspects, like Escaflowne's focus on romance, bishounen Allen, tarot cards (remember this is Japan, fortune telling is girly as hell) and so on. But it's as dumb as calling something a shounen mecha. Are we going to call mecha with male protagonists and themes of courage "shounen"? What does that accomplish? What does it mean?
Shoujo mecha is about as retarded to use as Super or Real Robot. Some shows are more shoujo or shounen than others but it can have aspects of both or neither, just like Real and Super. It's a meaningless term.
