What are some good examples of western kaiju?
>>14133730
Yo mama
>>14133730
The Pacific Rim kaiju are pretty cool, though that takes a lot of inspiration from Eastern kaiju
>>14133730
Depends on what you define kaiju as
>>14133730
King Kong
>>14133741
honestly I don't believe there to be any different between Eastern and Western kaiju unless you count west historically using special effects while East is usually a guy in a rubber suit.
>>14133771
I meant more if they are only giant monsters or monsters in general.
I liked the Godzilla '98/Zilla design. I thought it looked cool as shit.
>>14133741
A big monster...
>>14133790Me too
Tarantula is breddy gud. Oh, and check out Q: The Flying Monster, it's the only monster movie I know of that borrows from Aztec mythology.
Other than that, I can't really name any true western kaiju that haven't already been posted, but if you're cool with it I can give you some movies with kinda big monsters in them (Like maybe 20 feet tall max).
This thread needs more Ray Harryhausen, the original king of the kaiju.
>>14133812
My bad, it's Q: The Winged Serpent.
Also, here's some movies with kinda-sorta big monsters
>The Thing (1982) and its prequel The Thing (2011) don't really have any big monsters until their endings, but the bizarre, unnerving, and almost unreal creature designs are more than enough to sate you until the giant final boss monsters at the end of both movies. Prequel's quite the cliched retread tho, so if you haven't seen either, watch 1982 first and then 2011 at your leisure
>Death Machine (1994) is pretty dumb, but it's got a literal death machine running around killing eco-terrorists with giant metal teeth and claws, and it finishes the job with a mechanized death roll. Hell, police in the movie classify the murders as shark attacks despite them being nowhere near the coast
>You've probably heard of Pumpkinhead (1989), but it's worth mentioning for the totally wicked monster, which is basically the Xenomorph Queen with an occult twist. If you liked Aliens, You'll like this.
T. Rex from JP.
Fuck all the Spino and Indo fags.
>>14133730
Kaiju as in monster or Kaiju as in giant monster?
The Blob (1988 Ver.). Some of the practical effects in this movie are still among the best in the industry.
I'll be honest and admit that I hated the 2014 Godzilla. It looked like fatass crocodile. With the recent edgy nightmare-fuel redesign by the Japs, the American Fatzilla looks good by comparison.
Bugs from Starship Troopers.
Deep Rising monster.
>American """Kaiju"""
>>14134019
He didn't like the masterpiece that is Megashark vs. Giant Octopus and its spinoff, Sharktopus.I own the former on Blu Ray.Ironically
>>14134019
how is Roger Corman still alive?
>>14133790
The only problem is that they called him Godzilla.
>>14133930
Spino looked great though. Kaiju as fuck.
>>14134003
holy shit yes
this movie is trash at a high art level
but as an action adventure film about surviving deep sea horrors on a skeleton filled cruise ship it's fucking top score
>>14134292
No. The problem was that the movie sucked.
>>14134431
Was only talking about the creature itself.
>>14134436
My point still stands.
If the movie hadn't been so shit-tastic, people would've remembered the monster more fondly.
The dragons from Reign of Fire.
Also, Smaug.
>>14134036
>He didn't like the masterpiece that is Megashark vs. Giant Octopus and its spinoff, Sharktopus.
Megashark versus Mechashark is pure kaiju wackiness.
Annnnd, how do you figure Sharktopus is a spinoff of MSvsGO?
>>14133875
Oh man, I LOVED Death Machine. So incredibly cyberpunk! Tremble in terror before the Frontline Morale Destroyer...!
>>14133771
Ah. Gotta love Clash of the Titans.
Wrath of the Titans wasn't real good, but the Kraken was kinda cool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D4tzx5UwdI
>>14134478
>how do you figure Sharktopus is a spinoff of MSvsGO?
I think I remember there being some continuity errors that would prevent it from being a sequel.
I'm pretty sure they even said it was because of MS vs GO's "success" that they even made it.
Anyone see Transmorphers or Terminators.
>Mechashark
Hadn't seen yet. Downloading now.
>>14133986
Your opinions are bad
>>14134019
>Sharktopus vs Pteracuda
>A love story
So do they fuck?
>>14133948
Man I loved that movie
>>14133730
>western
>good
Pick one.
>>14134476
best interview ever
>>14135141
Also,
>western
>/m/
Pick one.
>>14135144
Liar
>>14133817
Never watched King Kong, have you? Willis O'Brien is king.
>>14135183
Not him, but Willis O'Brien was a pioneer, while Harryhausen perfected the technique
>>14135141
it took you long enough to get here
>>14134352
>not accurate spino
Isn't it just one guy claiming they were quadrupeds? Did he even have any real evidence?
>>14134292
>'98
>him
It would have been much better had this been the case.
>>14133986
>HURR WHY IS AMERICAN GODZILLA SO FAT
The telltale sign of a true retard.
>>14134465
Honestly I've mostly only seen old-school kaiju fags shit on that design. Most other people, who were the movie's intended audience, appeared to have accepted it without any holdups.
>>14135249
It wasn't accurate even before that theory came about.
>>14135402
You have to be pretty oblivious to not see where the Godzilla fat-shaming comes from. Godzilla traditionally has a well-defined head, neck, and upper torso. Godzilla '14...doesn't. Its body is all just one shape.
>>14135141
Nigga, western studios tend to have more liberal use of special effects which allows them to make more outlandish designs and motion, while the Japs are limited to what they can do with a guy in a suit who can barely move.
>>14136277
>barely move
Someone never watched the films.
>>14136292
You ever see Godzilla raise his arms above his head before?
>>14133948
I saw this movie at six, it scared the living shit out of me for years.
>>14133948
Does it count as a kaiju if it's just a regular monster that got big later on in the movie?
>>14134019
I kind of want to watch that...
>>14137190
Me, too. A lot of those death scenes were pretty gnarly.
https://youtu.be/mDBaHK7WYTo
>>14137262
This is the main horrible thing I recall form this movie ohgod
>>14136277
Man, there's nothing funnier than seeing a a Japanese dinosaur film with a four-legged creature on its knees.
>>14135141
What's next? You're gonna say Japan invented monster impregnation?
>>14134468
Loved that movie.
>>14134003
My nigger.
>>14133948
Too bad the movie sucks. Only good thing was the special effects.
>>14133790
That's because it is. People only shit on it because it's not made in almighty Jipang nor traditional Godzilla.
HE IS THE LAST...DINOSAUUUUUR
>>14138358
The Jaegers really should have lost that last battle.
>>14140624
Not really, no.
>>14134019
I'd watch a kaiju movie about giant monster girls fighting and fucking
>>14133948
Can't believe they actually killed that kid in the sewers. I mean it wasn't even just a death, it was like a butchering.
>>14140053
Made by Tsuburaya, doesn't count.
>>14137170
Several times, yes.
>>14134292
>tfw we'll never get a monsterarts of the Stan Winston goji
>>14133771
Rubber suits are special effects, you dope!
>>14134468
Playing the video-game as the dragon was so fucking rad
>>14141157
No. Rubber suits are considered practical effects.
>>14140706
... that's not above the head, Anon.
>>14142018
To be fair, I don't think it's possible for Godzilla to raise his hands above his head because his arms are just to short and his neck is so long.
Anyone remember Gorgo? It was a 60s British movie very obviously inspired by Godzilla. A large monster is captured and then put on display. And then they realize it's actually a baby, and that mommy is still out there.
>>14143397
I don't see the inspiration.
>>14143129
Multiple times Godzilla has touches his brow in the 70s.
Anyone here watch Planet of The Dinosaurs
>>14134468
This movie makes me wish that instead of zombies apocalypse movies become a dime a dozen, what if dragon apocalypse movies had
>>14143403
It's a rubber suit dino.
>>14143988
Hmmmmm
Nah man, no resemblance
>>14143756
There is Sega's 7th Dragon game series, if that counts.
>>14144013
They got sweaty men inside.
>>14144071
oh OHHHH
Yeah okay I see it now
>>14143988
Yes, something that any uncreative schmuck can come up with is definitely a sign of inspiration, you stupid weeb.
>>14144096
>weeb
Please, man.
People call it Godzilla-inspired 'cause Godzilla popularized rubber suit monsters stomping around miniature cities more than anything else, and Gorgo followed the same idea. I have no idea how big asian kaijushit was in Britain at the time, though.
>>14144151
>Please, man
What?
>>14144190
don't be calling me weeb
Even though I know we're on /m/.
>>14144216
But that's what you are.
>>14144221
OK, then I'll try to live up to the designation.
>>14144242
You already are. You do so anytime you post here.
>>14144266
Sounds easier than I thought.
>>14143397
I remember that the spanish release of Godzilla vs Megalon was oficially called:
"Gorgo and Superman meet at Tokyo"
>>14146595
I love these zany foreign monster movie translations.
Do cartoons count?
The fucking Inhumanoids.
>>14146685
>>14146696
Man, fucking everything was Frankenstein to them Germans.
>>14147443
I've heard it's sorta German shorthand for "this has a monster"
>>14147478
Apparently. Same with King Kong.
Read that Frankenstein Conquers the World was so popular in West Germany that putting the name Frankenstein into a monster movie gave it instant marquee value, or at least that was the thought process of the distributors.
