What kind of question is this?
>>
>>14133932

Is this true? I watched the first episode and was completely turned off by the magical girl BS. Was it all just a troll?
>>
>>14133350
Considering that Max actually flew a VF-1 before and is effectively one of the best pilots in the galaxy, he probably could.
>>
>>14133943

Not a troll, watch till episode 3 and see for yourself.
>>
>>14133943
Never forget that Kawamori is a troll. He's capable of sucker punching you right when you're caught up in a fever dream.

So far it's been an even mix between the singers and pilots of this Jamming Birds 2.0. Yes, there probably be more idols on the battle field, but also dogfights. This is Macross. A milkshake of music and mecha mayhem is mandatory.
>>
>>14133943
Maybe you should actually watch more than just 1 episode before you make a kneejerk reaction like that. Wait no anon all the episodes are about the girls applying makeup and talking about boys and sometimes they sing :3c
>>14133969
This. Even that training sequence with Hayate and Mirage had some Top Gun-ish guitar riffs playing in the background.
>>
>>14133350
Haven't the last 3 Macross TV series had really shitty pilots as their MCs? Whatever happened to our hero being a good pilot like Hikaru in the original?
>>
>>14133984

I'm not quite ready to accept "nanomachines and holograms" as justification for painfully obvious magical girl tropes and effects that have never been a part of the series.

Like I can't believe the first episode of this show inhabits the same universe that Macross Plus takes place in. It's universe-breaking.

7 had microphone drones, DYRL had holograms, Frontier had hologram suits and jet skirts. You're making it painfully obvious you only ever watched SDF.
>>
>>14134010
I kind of agree with this anon. I've been fine with idols, but idol groups have a different style to them that I'm not sure I really like. The transformation sequences (and catchphrases and all that goes with it) feel a little out of place. I'm not a huge Macross fan outside of the original and some fun parts from 7 but, to put it as others have so eloquently before me, "not muh macross". Single idols aren't significantly different from pop stars but idol groups always seem so lifeless and manufactured compared to solo girls. There's a lot of focus on uniformity, precision and choreography instead of personality or soul (>implying pop stars have it in the first place) and it doesn't really impact me in the same way. I don't see myself being able to connect to Freyja as a character when she's in an idol group compared to past idols, but I'll let time tell that one for sure.

That's just my opinion. I guess I'll never grow out of old ways, for better or worse.
>>
>>14134044
You'll always have the Robotech movie to look forward to.
>>
>>14134010

Sharon was a fucking computer that performs via fuck huge holograms, anon.

DYRL had holograms, Frontier had holograms and skirts with boosters, 7 had flying microphones and holograms(See: Dynamite 7 OP), its pretty damn consistent.
>>
>>14134054
I'm just saying that it feels a little different than previous entries, which is a good thing. But any change inevitably will be negative for some people, and I guess I'm in that category. I just don't like idol group music is what it comes down to, it seems.
>>
>>14134002
There have only been 4 Macross tv series including Delta. And all of the MCs have at least been decent pilots.

Basara is probably one of the best pilots shown. Amazing reflexes and ability to not die. He'd probably be an ace if he wasn't a pacifist.

Alto has great flying chops, but inherited Hikaru's propensity to lose his ride. Probably not the best pilot in his series, but he's up there

Hayate is pretty much a newbie at flying at this point. He's a virtuoso at moving a battroid but needs a lot more training. Luckily despite their abrasive interactions, he's surrounded by more experienced pilots who are genuinely invested in his growth. And it's only episode 3.

In terms of skill I'd probably rate Basara>Alto>=Hikaru>Hayate as of this moment. Hikaru is a good, but not amazing pilot.
>>
>>14134077
idol group music normally take a bit of time to get use to, but the slower start give you more time to get to know everyone in the group, the ones you like and the ones you don't. lol.

I think you all missed the point of

>as justification for painfully obvious magical girl tropes

The important part isn't there being holograms, it is them and nano machines letting them do magical girl stuff which lets them fight on the battlefield. That is a jump from the other stuff. Yes parts of these elements have existed and used in different ways, all of them together and used in this way is his issue. For some people they aren't interested in that from macross

Apart from the "transformation", which was already done in previous Macross series in concerts, nothing they did was magical girl-like.
>>
>>14134077
Idol music is shit. J-pop is like diarrhea.
Of course they could have used a rock band, but lets face it it was already done. So they had nowhere else to turn to. Just imagine Delta with fucking Fire Bomber.

Your point is 'I don't like it'. Which is fine. You're entitled to your opinion and I doubt anyone will challenge it, but I'm not sure why you're trying to act like the elements aren't part of Macross when they clearly are. People don't have a problem with you not liking it, only trying to push your opinion in factual terms by saying X isn't Macross and these things have never been there

>>
>>14134705
>magical girl tropes
Only the "transforming" (which wasn't actually transforming, just flashy clothes changing which was all over Frontier and especially the movies) could really be called this. Fire Bomber has catchphrases too, as did Sheryl. The jet skirts are also from Frontier. They don't even run around actually on the battlefield, that's just Mikumo and she's clearly super special already.
>>
>>14134812
What? It makes watching it actually enjoyable, kind like Build Fighters. And it can be as ridiculous as it needs to be.
>>14134835
Now that you mentioned it, other girls weren't doing anything supernatural and only usage of skirt jets by pink boobies ended in crash landing for her.
>>14134813
Reina is electronic warfare specialist, Kaname act as commanding officer, Mikuno is freaking terminator.
Are drones slaved to their movements only or do they actually run on danger aware AI?
>>
>>14135020

None of them have done anything supernatural.
>>
>>14135026
Mikuno survived missile salvo. Sure, with shield drones but ended burried under about half meter of rubble. From which she came out pretty much unscathed. So she is eighter some sort of post/superhuman thing physically or those holo suits are really sturdy.
Pinpoint barrier is distant posibility but I don't think they've managed to pack any significantly strong generator in Mikunos outfit. There is nowhere to hide it.
>>
>>14135038
Mikumo is very clearly not human. They couldn't be pounding that in our face hard enough. That said, I'm pretty sure she was unscathed because she was surrounded by shield drones
>>
>>14135048

I suspect she is a cyborg, and I hope that's a fakeout and she is more than just a cyborg, but a modified version of the Sharon Apple program in a cyborg body. Her color scheme and the shape of her hair in idol mode gives me serious Sharon vibes.
>>
>>14135038

The rubble was kept off by the drones, that should be obvious.
>>
Mikumo not being normal is kind of obvious anyway.

Her character profile itself always is implying something.
>Age: ?

And then there's this in the OP

She's most likely a labgrown being to deal with the Var.
>>
>>14135038
>ended burried under about half meter of rubble
Buried with her shield drones. Just before the missile impact you can see the shield drones deploying a green energy shield.

>>14134705
>>14134010
It's simply the logical extension of the weaponization of culture via the effects of biologically generated waveforms that produce certain neural effects. We've seen this in SDF. We've seen this in Zero, Plus, Frontier. We've seen this explicitly in 7 with the Jamming Birds.

In fact, Walkure + Delta Platoon is simply the logical progression of the Jamming Birds project, where you had the EXACT SAME THING, except the singers were in the planes at all times. Now you just have more DECULTURE with flying shield drones, wherein the idols get closer to the target, which we know is important since both Frontier and 7 show that Fold Waves/Song Energy have range limitations without the usage of Fold Crystal.
>>
Mikumo is Grace + Sharon

No, rewatch the scene. The beams come out from under the rubble where she is, and push away the rubble and the dust in the next frame.

Also, completely separately
>>>14133357
besides the VF-24-family control layout, the VF-1EX also clearly has an EX-Gear built into the seat, though the cockpit hatch is vintage DYRL. Also, the tiny details in this episode are fantastic. Not only does the VF-1EX have proper rudder and elevator motions when Mirage rolls right and then pulls up, but the hanger shots of it show it with properly folded fins.
>>
>>14134764
I feel like no one would watch it then. The Japanese want idol music, Americans want hip-hop or EDM. No one cares about the POWER OF ROCK. Which is a tragedy.

Also it's weird seeing so much atmospheric flight in a Macross show. I wonder if Hayate is gonna have a whole different set of problems once he inevitably has to fight in space.

>>
>>14139281
Funny thing you mention that.
Two main factors differentiate VF-31 and VF-1, thrust values obviously and ICS system. You can't do anything in regards to ICS but all that awesome thrust doesn't really matter that much in atmosphere. You can only dump so much energy out of leg thrusters unless doing ramjet trick - which means that while superior, Siegdried isn't overwhelmingly so, at least on this point.
In pure dogfight of two planes there would not be any competition, plane with broader envelope wins but as valks cheat thanks to transformation capabilities, results aren't set in stone.
Also, this is EX variant. Meaning avionics are modern, it comes with EX gear, better engines and is build with modern materials and systems. It probably spec-wise sits between VF-11 and nerfed VF-19- which is still considered formidable machine by Delta times. Or, if we follow what The Ride gave us, it comes with engines taken straight out of Ghost drones, in which case thanks to smaller and lighter airframe it might actually be able to catch up to Siegfried in atmospheric combat.
So yeah, pretty sure Max can close this gap just fine.
>>14139230
We never have ground combat specialist as a MC before. Hikaru and Shinn were plane pilots, Isamu is a combat pilot who is good in any mode, Alto started with basic valk rider training but really nobody was capable of being as good as Hayate in battroid. It's a given he will suck in space, just like Shinn was actually rather bad at alt modes and only excelling in pure aerial combat.
>>
>>14139565
>it might actually be able to catch up to Siegfried in atmospheric combat.
What about space combat?
>>
>>14139585
No atmosphere to limit performance of superior machine, so no chance. But OPs question was about situation from Delta, and in that circumstances recovery was duable. Considering how close Messser was behind Hayate simply engaging gearwalk and hard breaking would have helped, as at that point human reflez would be the most limiting factor. Next logical step would be to descent to the sea level and play hide and seek between those hollowed cliffs, thou knowing what kind of feats Jenius is capable of I'm pretty sure you woukd have scored a hit during first pass.
Come on, Max is a meme at this point. He will always win, because he is a Jenius.
