***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Any tips on making a Gundam look more like an Abrams or Challenger 2 tank? I'm planning on adding more plates and rivets. I'm a serviceman and I've just bought my first gunpla, very excited to get into the hobby.
>>

How do you fail at building, detailing and posing all at once? Get a fucking job and stop living off of your parents' dime, NEET scum. Maybe once you pay for these models with your own money you can learn to appreciate them.
>>

Make some armor skirting to cover exposed joints, add a rpg cage to the head. Paint it military colors. Get military decals in the proper size.

You can get a rivet wheel, make sure it's very small in size because of the scale

As for plates, pick a thickness of sheet styrene that works for you at a local hobby shop and go nuts. If you need to order online bust out the ruler.

Also check out some small infantry kits, lots of things like pieces of ammo cans or pieces of machine guns work really well for gunpla armor.
>>
>>14128274
Which GM is that?
>>
>>14128308
I was looking at rivet wheels but they're confusing me a little bit. Shouldn't the rivets be poking out of the model rather than indented?

I've got a bits box of Warhammer 40k parts that are just waiting to be raided.

GM Sniper II. It came with this, btw.

Just about to start building my Gabthley

>>14128320
That's GM sniper II I believe. Stop giving snapshit (you)s
>>
>>14128323

there's almost no possible way a rivet would be visible on a 1/144 kit anyway, if you think about it a rivet on the surface of a 1/144 kit would be about 2-3 feet wide in real life. Even on most planes raised rivets would be unlikely, and most planes have countersunk screws to reduce drag. Impressions from a rivet wheel are the best way to achieve the effect without it being both unrealistic and extremely tedious.
>>
>>14128238
Slowly working on MG Sword Impulse, but I should really prepare my 2.0 gelgoog with stickers/dry transfers because top coating weather is coming soon.
>>
>>14128331
I just wanted to know which GM it was, mate.
>>
>>14128335
Awesome, any idea what kind of scale rivet-wheel I should aim for?
>>
>>14128369

Really depends what spacing you want

Larger ones will look less like rivets and more like "here are where the panels are screwed on" or whatever. Depends what you are going for, most tools come with 2-3 wheels anyway.

>>
>>14128614
Well you're not gonna be able to just slap it on there, the Strike has it's own single peg connector for backpacks, though I believe some of the build fighter custom packs have an adapter part for attaching different backpacks to it.

Do any of you like to give all of your gunpla some sort of common aspect as a personal touch? Since I'm left-handed, I like it when my models all hold their accessories with their left hands. Actually makes it a little disappointing when they come with a single trigger finger right hand.
>>
>>14128673
I stick a tiny piece of paper with some ominous messages in the frame of the MGs I build.

It's so that if someone ever takes it apart they'll be scared when they find the message.
>>
>>14128679
Does the paper say "i came here to laugh at you"?
>>
>>14128669
Well it looks like the Gundam X has it's own unique peg for backpacks too, but http://dalong.net/review/bf/bc12/bc12_p.htm this pack might work, it has the adapter piece for the Strike and it looks like you might be able to stick the satellite cannon into backpack it comes with.

Bit of a question of preference I suppose but when it comes to painting, do you all think it's better to assemble parts before painting or paint the parts and then assemble for a kit?
>>
>>14129182
Depends on the kit, I do a mixture of both.

>Straight Assemble a kit while making sure it's easy to take apart later
>Find out what parts can be painted together and what don't
>Prime, paint, detail, top coat.
>>
Anyone here picked up the PG Unicorn or Dendrobium, or any other PG kits? I'm curious as to how fun they are to build.

Also, picked up a Rick Dias yesterday, and I'm super excited to build it after I finish my Titans MK-II. What are you all working on?
>>

>>
Does anyone here buy "builders parts" or other accessories for their gunpla? If so can you point me in the direction of some good websites. I had a quick look at Hobby Search and they looked decent.
>>
>>14129196
PG Unicorn is fine. it's big and flashy, and it looks good. Though I'm not sure if there's anything special you have to do, but the arms are loose as shit and sag down as soon as I try to move them up, and the shoulders have a hard time staying on. Haven't been able to make any interesting poses. It was somewhat fun to build.

Cool, love seeing people working on Zeta suits.

I can't remember this, so hopefully you guys can help me remember. Which numbered Mk-II did everyone pilot in those first few episodes of Zeta? I think Emma piloted 03, Kacrikorn piloted 01, and Kamille stole 02, but it's been so long that I can't remember.
>>
>>14129487
Jerid piloted Unit 01 and crashed it into the building, Kamille then stole Unit 03 and forced Kacricon out of Unit 02, and both Gundams were captured. Emma took Unit 01 to the Argama to deliver the message to return all captured Gundams or Kamille's mother dies. After the fiasco ended and the AEUG ended up with all 3 Mark IIs, they sent both Unit 01 and 02 to Anaheim Electronics to be disassembled and studied, and Unit 03 was kept for Kamille, and later Emma.

Mmmm...dry brushing is difficult in the sense that you really want to just slather paint everywhere. Is this too much/nonsensical weathering?

I wanted to give Fenice an all around worn look because of its history, but it might be going overboard? Tomorrow I'm picking up some darker paints to brush over the lighter parts, which might explain why it looks odd when only the darker parts are weathered while the lighter is nice.

>>
>>14129661
Don't you know anon? Tacking everything you can to your model is how you win GBWC! It's such a wonderful design choice! How could it not win?
>>
I just finished my HG Gusion, and damn this fucker is sturdy, and I love it
My only real gripe is he lacks hardpoints for any kind of optional equipment to slot in easily but I'm okay with that mostly, I love Gusion for what he is a big turtle
>>
Is a file good for removing nub marks?
>>
>>14129730
Very good, but without proper technique you can end up eating into the piece, too.
>>
>>14129730
Files are very rough, and can easily take off more plastic than you want. You can use one to bring down a nub to almost flush, but you'll really want to use a high grit sandpaper like 2000 grit to finish the job.
>>
>>14129692 THIS

But honestly, this is why NA will never win GBWCs. They see us as barbarians with a shitty palette.

People like Child of Mecha is gonna spearhead this cancer movement. May God help us
>>
>>14129706
You can make hardpoints easily. Drill them in.
>>
>>14129751
Well that one's like a duh, and there's no shortage of spare polycaps or anything, that's part of why I'm fine with it.
The other part is I don't really have any interest in tacking shit onto Gusion mostly. Maybe a fuckhuge backpack some day, but I'm pretty happy with how simple it is.
>>
>>14129759
Sadly it's not a duh to a lot of snappers in these threads. Well, have fun with your model.
>>
>>14129745

HLJ is throwing out all their G-Reco kits for 400 to 790 yen.
>>
>>14130842
How big is their excess stock of those things? They've been trying to get rid of them since around December.

I might as well grab the regular G-Self for the Atmospheric Flight Pack. I thought the Space Pack was a steal at $6, but 400 yen for a regular kit is madness.
>>
>>14130853
Series is dead and products take up inventory which cost them money. They're just dumping them to make space for the HGCE Force Impulse, Revive Gyan, etc
>>
>>14130868
I get that, but it just surprises me that they still haven't sold them all yet. During their big Christmas and Spring sales, and in many other smaller weekly sales like this one, HLJ was giving huge discounts on G-Reco kits. Especially because I thought that the G-Reco kits were a bigger success than Bandai expected them to be. Unfortunately, Recten, Hecate, etc. never though
>>
>>14130877
Same with the AGE-1 Razor parts. They discount it at incredible prices, yet they're still in stock.

Unpopular.
>>
The 1/144 HG Dendrobium is in stock. It is a very rare item. Why should I not drop 23.8k yen on it?
>>
>>14130887
Because it's shit?

Also it'll be in your backlog for years. Then you'll drop the hobby.
>>
>>14130877
>that the G-Reco kits were a bigger success than Bandai expected them to be.

That is 100% false and made up by /m/. Its literally shelfwarming kits the series
>>
>>14130897
Why is it shit? No, really (though I do have a huge backlog and no space to put it the Dendrobium).
>>
>>14130877
The kits are even worse than the series.
>>
>>14130911
It's fine for what it is, but don't expect it to be anything more than a giant chunk of white until you take the time to detail the shit out of it.

Yeah the kits were very obviously rushed. The IBO kits aren't much better, save for an internal frame and obviously planned production. My only problem with G-Reco kits is the plastic-on-plastic hands. Like why in the world. How hard could it have been to just mold a polycap socket there ffs. This was the kits' token flaw.

If you're not a YUGE fan of the series, there's no real urge to buy another kit, let alone all of them.
>>
>>14129182
I've not exactly found a "best" way yet;
>Prime the runners is ok, but snap points will become tough if you paint too much
>Half assembly is good, you'll likely have to cut off the snap joins for arms/legs and use glue for final assembly though
>Full assembly wouldn't even bother with

I'd also advise on some really tough primer, I've used Vallejo and some of it has chipped off through varnish when something has scraped the paint job.

I'm also reminded of my poor RX-78(G) which is still a sad pile of unpainted parts.
>>
So I'm eyeing the Big O kit for some time in the future, but I wanted to know what to expect from that kit.

Posting for the sake of a guy in >>14116534

The Candy Mini-Pla Xabungle pack will have the Bungle Skipper and Rover guaranteed, alongside the TRAD 11 and Gallop models, the only actual random element is the color of the TRAD 11 and Gallop WMs individually. The two smaller Walker Machines will come either in desert tan or green, and this color is picked at random. You also get candy!

An upcoming Mini-Pla model, if I remember correctly, is the Ideon at 1/6000 scale. Pretty well articulated by the looks of it, will be colored but obviously is currently in prototype stages.

I picked this up from multiple sources. I'm pretty sure it's correct, but please do check if you feel the need.
>>
>>14130965
The only Big O kit is pretty old and takes a bunch of work.

Wouldn't really recommend it.

Damn, thats a shame. Thanks for the heads up. I was looking up the booklet and was also disappointed at how simple it was overall, though I can't expect much from a 2000 kit. Fuck, I can't believe its 16 years old.

Anyway, what would y'all recommend to recreate it, or at least those massive arms with the pistons in them, so as to somewhat recreate its look and arsenal.

Orphanage. Helping children if you can is always good, especially orphans or ill ones. Their lives are already probably pretty shitty, so if you can help them and maybe brighten just one day, you'll have done good.

Jack Edge G-Exes.

The back of the hand doesn't stay attached. The torso is loose and falls off if it's not directly over the waist. IE if you try and pose it upside down with an AB the upper half will fall and the shield will pop out the back of the hand and send it flying into the Shadow Realm.

Nigger, all you do is dab some super glue on the ball joint, and then move it around in the socket so that it coats evenly and doesn't actually adhere to the socket. It just creates more friction so the joint isn't so loose

MG GP-01 Full Burnern

The Beam Sabers have like no hold and the Core Fighter has it's tolerances so damn loose that it's a nightmare to pose as the top half pops off at the slightest force so the kit refuses be stable.

Even if you put it on a stand it'll have the core fighter pop off.
>>
>>14132809
Most RGs are pretty fragile, but the RX-78-2, Zeta, and Zaku are supposed to be the worst in that regard. IIRC, the 00, Wing, and SEED kits are pretty solid, and the Z'gok and MK.II are excellent

From what my sister's told me, the 3 SEED RG's she's built (Freedom, Strike Freedom, and Destiny) are pretty solid. I built the Exia and it's alright, just the big sword and shield popping off from the forearm, and the legs, but that's probably true for all the RG's. The Mk. II I built was solid as a rock though. But those are the only ones we've actually built.

How does the MG do it?

The worst part for these was punching out the tiny ones. You can't even fit your clippers in next to them to actually cut them out, you just have to push them until they pop out. Which was fun when it was a small bunch of beads on a long plastic piece. I only had them fall off once.

I however found that to be COMPLETE FUCKING HORSE SHIT. Fucking rings wouldn't budge at all some and were almost like....sweated/shrunk onto the runner.
