Entry level obscure is usually the best obscure. Since it mixes the best of the mainstream and of the experimental.

Argento Soma?

I've never seen anyone ever mention it. Must be someone besides me who watched it. Not that it was particularly good.

Wasn't this in that SRW game for the Wii? Was that game any good?
>>
>>14126438
This. Xabungle actually had a couple threads to itself recently, the Tomino Humor thread and the 3/29 Xabungle Day thread.

Honestly that's like 60-70% of all /m/ shows by some of the shows ITT. /m/ is too busy shitposting about the latest Gundam, getting baited into shitty arguments, engaging in autism, and performing various other acts of petty funposting to actually post about the fuckload of /m/ shows there are.

You do get some threads about individual shows sometimes, discussion threads, and the 70s-80s discussion thread, as well as release threads. Those are nice.
>>
>>14126852
Neo was a good SRW in that it was a different SRW which did different things.

...And it's a bad one in that half the series are plotless or have very little plot, it's reinforcement hell on the level that the only game worse than it is OE's "EVERY STAGE IS NOW INFINITE REINFORCEMENTS" - which runs off the same system - and in that as a first game to try a lot of things, it's got some issues in terms of balancing.

And yes, Iron Leaguer was in it. It was one of the plotless series and was treated really fucking poorly in general (FIVE OF THE SEVEN MEMBERS OF SILVER CASTLE NEVER SHOW UP, NOR DO ANY OF THE HUMANS.) which is a big minus.
>>
>>14126885
Ouch, the reinforcement hell my second biggest gripe with the series, proceeded only by the "kill a mecha and then have it gain all it's health back". What did it do well?
>>
>>14126898
>proceeded only by the "kill a mecha and then have it gain all it's health back".

What, for enemy bosses?

Anyway, Neo took away grids. Instead, everything lies on a 3D plane, where each unit takes up a space determined by their size. It also relatedly made positioning vitally important, if an enemy can even surround you on two of your four sides you're going to get slammed (and if they completely surround you, your unit is fucking dead, no two buts about it)

It revamped the spirit system. The main changes are that each spirit has three levels that you get as you level up, which either increase the power and cost - you can choose which tier you want in that case - or just decrease the cost. On top of that you can cast spirits anytime you want, including on the enemy phase. This was overall pretty nice, although it led to some problems (Daunt is OP AS FUCK - they nerfed it in OE and it's still ridiculously borked - and in Neo, Flash had its normal effect, so it was a get out of any attack free card.) On top of that, you didn't start with max SP and instead gained SP by taking damage and a bit more each turn, which was sort of stolen by Z3 afterwards.

It made Resupply totally free, which was cool, because EN wasn't always in easy supply.

It allowed you to deploy everything, but not at once. Basically, at the start of the stage you'd have your battleship and maybe one other shmuck out, and then at any time you could deploy units out of your battleship up to a certain cap. And that cap sometimes increased in stage - anytime an event requires a unit to be deployed in a stage, the cap increases by however many units, plus sometimes it just does randomly. OE fucked this system over entirely by replacing it with something worse. This DID lead to a situation where you only had the OG battleship, meaning Daiteioh's battleship never showed (you also had one other unit as a battleship for one scenario, but it was a normal unit for everything else)
>>
>>14126952
(oh, and on that first point - most of the oddities were fixed by OE, actually, though it made a problem or two of its own on the map and 1 range moves were still fucking terrible).

It's one of the few games that actually expected the player to make it to level 99, and was designed accordingly. There's a late secret that involves you getting your Eldoran units up a bit past the curve to get an ok support unit with Anti-Air and a guy with Daunt. They're two of the three secrets in the game aside from Watt and Amp (two Leaguers who have very little presence in the show and did not deserve to get in over all of Silver Castle or the Fighter Brothers.)

Speaking of Anti-Air: There's a lot of special attributes that moves can have. Unfortunately, this is rather underused in Neo, as it's more used to make certain units (cough cough Ryu Mage Magidora) look better. Some of them were REALLY GOOD though - Anti-Air basically meant that any airborne enemy was guaranteed to die if you had Getter 3 on the field, because Daisetsuzan Oroshi had it and would fucking annihilate anything airborne. OE gave more of these abilities to more units, though at the cost of devaluing certain units (cough cough Ryu Mage Magidora).

Neo is also the first attempt at making a SRW with more fantasy trappings since I guess Compact 3, and it actually decides to make it work unlike Compact 3. Unfortunately, their idea of "fantasy" mostly means "RYU KNIGHT RYU KNIGHT RYU KNIGHT RYU KNIGHT eldoran/liger/og plot interlude RYU KNIGHT RYU KNIGHT LAMUNE RYU KNIGHT". According to interviews, they wanted Wataru and Granzort, but those were unavailable, and if most of the Ryu Knight in the game was originally theirs it would make sense because jesus fuck like half the game is fucking Ryu Knight plot.

Come on, Neo reinforcement hell? Maybe in very late game but that's most SRWs' problem. If anything most of the earlygame has the opposite problem, too few enemies like in MX.

The part about half the shows being plotless or almost all plotless is true though. In addition to Ryu Knight we have Lamune, the Eldoran series have about as much plot as Ryu Knight (but that's three of them put together vs one), a little bit of Getter and Liger and post-canon tidbits from Iron Leaguer and G Gundam. And original plot of course.

But I like Ryu Knight so I don't mind. And Neo wasn't afraid to shake things up and try new mechanics that make even weaker attacks worthwhile as opposed to the game turning into hissatsu spam. It was a good game.

OE on the other hand...

Gakusaver would be an amazing assist to a deep space SRW as well. The city got warped away from Earth and you taxi it around (it requires you missing a bit of the early plot, but they could handle that in a "meanwhile away from the main plot" stage), then every so often the warp drive goes nuts and shoots you somewhere else for a bit before taking you back.

And yeah, Warcury would need to be recruitable.

If anybody posting Dragon's Heaven is still here, I tried doing an encode of it with FFmpeg, but I used the internet yadif de-interlacer and it has these nasty artifacts. Should I upload it or try harder?

if you're gonna watch W then don't expect much, it wasn't as good as the original.

WARS is pretty good though it's not connected to anything before.

I'd ask someone knowledgeable first.
>>
>>14137053
Does FFmpeg have an option to decomb instead of deinterlace?

So do I get to watch lots of half-naked polynesian chicks in this as the name and image implies?

No

you'll get the slightly melancholic day to day lives of three Japanese sisters as the media, government and other parties hound them as they try to find their place in society.

it's pretty good honestly

>>14139445
Then that pic is sort of misleading.

They should have either gone with cute girls racing robots or with the rebellion. Trying to do both kept either one from working which is a shame because there were bits of it that were very good.

I've heard that the manga is better, but it doesn't really have a translation and I think it got canned so it doesn't have a proper ending either.

It also has great songs.
The last few episodes are the best. And Machine Baron is just the best villain ever. I wish more episodes were about him.

The kicker is that Asamiya made the manga primarily into something that his son can enjoy. It even ran on Jump, to boot.

Superhuman Locke (I guess westernized it's known as Locke the Superman) comes to mind.

About 70% of this movie is a starting sequence and another starting sequence plus somethng-something plot. It's 1985 but the spirit of muh space exploration is pure 60s.

Another one I really liked that doesn't get talked about very often or it's spin-off full of Tatsunoko and /m/ references.

Apparently it's obscure enough that it took me much longer to find the op on youtube than I care to admit

It is confusing and pretty rushed, but it does a lot of unique thing especially in terms of the way it was animated. The music was awesome too. Honestly, all it really needed to be better were a few more episodes to explain what was going on and flesh out the setting a characters a bit.

I wonder if Dragon's Heaven inspired Metroid in any way. Or was it the other way around? There was a manga that came first, right?

There was Baraduke around that time, too.
I wonder if there's some common source for all of that.
