Here's the thing - the first half of GX was bad too. Some scenes were fun or amusing (stroganoff) but overall the only good episode was the first one.

Well, back then, after episode 6, I only thought episode 3 was bad, 1 was good, 2 had the noises destroying the Gears which was a missed opportunity to make them more frightening and I really liked in episode 4 Hibiki rescuing Miku. 5 and 6 built hype for the second half with the ignite, they got worse after we realized that ignite was meaningless. In conclussion, GX's first part made a lot of possible plotlines which were all wasted in "WE WERE LOSING ON PURPOSE", ignite being shit, topdad, monster of the week and the fucking hospital. Hibiki's first drama in episodes 3 and 4 was bad but I would have forgive it if they hadn't done a much worse drama in the second part.
I just hope that the drama for the sake of drama never happens again and that topdad never appears again.

That's my biggest problem too. I didn't like topdad as a character and plot device, but the mishandling of the cast itself is what really rubs me the wrong way. Even Shirabe could be made to stand out if her desire to be dependable was emphasized outside of a "I LOVE YOU MORE" fight. It could've mix well with Chri's senpai subplot too if you did something like Shirabe asking how she can be more dependable for Kirika. Symphogear has a great cast with good dynamics but they were wasted during GX. It just felt so forced, which may just have been Kaneko doing the whole wrapping everything up thing. That said, even though GX was really underwhelming, I still enjoyed it for the most part.

There very little chance Topdad won't be involved using the next season, though definitely in a reduced form. Hibiki's issues with violence will definitely continue though, hence her crying in the last few shots.
