I like how alien it makes Godzilla looks. Contrast it with the Legendary Godzilla, which looks more like a natural beast. Obviously an absurd sort of beast, but something that you can look at and say "Okay, I can picture that something like this is alive, and can function."
This Godzilla's just a fucking nightmare that very clearly shouldn't exist. The main body is very statue-like and rigid, but the tail compensates for the lack of motion by being very fluid and active, and as said before ridiculously large. Combined with the abundance of radiation scarring and fucked up, immobile arms it looks like the worst kind of accidental creation.

Legendary's 2015 spoiled me. I know the cinematography and CGI won't be near as good, even if it won't have all the problems that 2015 did. It's not that I expect it, I'm just sad. No red smoke trails above the stormy city. No ultimate atomic breath in the fog, lighting up the city block. Nothing like the fight we saw, even if it was too focused on the people.
Hopefully it makes up for it in all the other ways.

Overall, I dig the new look and the tone. It looks like Toho is (wisely) straying away from the tone of Final Wars and the American remake. It'll be interesting to see Godzilla as a villain again since he hasn't played that role since 1984. I'll remain cautiously optimistic until I see the movie myself.

Japanese films have a far lower budget than American ones, thus special effects will look worse. It is actually quite dramatic 2014's Godzilla had a 160 million dollar non-marketing budget whereas Final Wars was less that 20 million. For a more direct comparison: Godzilla 98 had a 125 million dollar budget whereas Toho's Gozillia 2000 (actually released mid 1999) had a 9 million dollar budget. If you were expecting Weta quality special effects, you are looking in the wrong place. Toku was probably necessary for the film to look even decent given the budget. And to be honest, I think it looks better than most suits, though I do think animatronic eyes would look better than fixed, but perhaps they are still in post and the eyes will looks better in the film.

Yeah, that's what I didn't really like about it. I prefer the scruffy, raggedy, "animalistic" look of the original, but the FW version looked too much like a human in a skintight suit. Also, those eyes.
Mammalian kaiju are pretty tricky to get to look good, though.

Supposedly the rumors are that Godzilla is the original one from the Showa Era after being hit by the Oxygen Destroyer. It didn't actually kill him and he's spent decades regenerating at the bottom of the sea.
