ITT: Actual jobbers and deathtraps.

Talk shit all you want about Balls, GMs, or Nemos, the Public is the true flying coffin.

Also acceptable: suicide enemies, shitty one-shots, or unprecedentedly weak machines. Doesn't have to be Gundam of course, and whether or not it's humanoid is at your discretion.

I actually liked this design, a shame it never got any sort of model.

Public is brilliant though, as part of a larger force. It's pretty much a pair of missiles with just enough shuttle to fly out, fire, and come back. And since it can load up beam-dispersant missiles you can just fly the fleet out there, saturate the area, and keep on doing so for as long as you have missiles.

Just sucks if you take a spare bullet. You die and now some OTHER poor sap has to come refill the area you burned up in your flaming death.
>>
>>14092274
It is strange, isn't it? We got a Dopp, Magella, and Luggun at least, and I'm pretty sure there's a Gallop out there too.

That's actually a pretty good way of looking at it.

Nemo's are the shit what are you talking about
>>
>>14092304
It's to do with how Nemos have never gotten a single onscreen kill. GMs have gotten kills, Balls too, in some side material, but never once the Nemo. This isn't to say the Nemo is bad, because it isn't, and technically neither are the Ball or GM, but you get the idea.
>>
>>14092327
Could of sworn the Nemo's had a few kill during one of the big battle's in unicorn before the real mech's showed up and just trashed every body.

I kinda feel bad about that in the grandam universe they have all these other cool Mobil suits but they get show out shined early on by powerful units. Wish we could get somthing like the 8th ms team again thats more of the base troops facing off.

About those autocannons, so what happens when you run out of ammo during a firefight? I'm not going to pull over to fucking manually reload that shit.

Short answer? Don't run out during a fight.
Long answer? In reality, the fight is either likely to end before you run out of ammunition, or there is a staggered process of pulling out of the fight to rearm and reload ammunition from a logistical unit a short way back from the fight and usually machines are designed with life expectancy or expected targets to be engaged before reloading. For example, the British Striker missle carrier had five TOWs in launchers and five reloads carried within the vehicle; that was see as the limit of its combat effectiveness in a single engagement, after which it would likely be destroyed or be able to rearm. Same for the Ontos where you have six recoiless rifles ready to fire quickly, giving you a higher rate of fire than many AFVs of the day, but then means you have to either pull back to reload or you were expected to have already been knocked out.
>>
>>14092656
I think they actually showed MWs running back and forth during protracted engagements, swapping in and out. I know they did in the finale because they were basically working in shifts to keep shooting for three days straight - I'd question where they hell they're storing so much ammo at that point. The train?

To this day I don't think I've seen anything dumber than Gagas.
I will never believe that making 500+ clones and 500+ useless mobile suits that can only serve as kamikaze (and even then aren't threatening) is a good idea.
I'm entierly sure they could have made a few hundred of actually threatening and well armed mobile suits on the same budget.

serious some of the mobile armor designs were fucking sick and seem (on paper or against everything except a protagonist) to way outmatch anything else but alas they're on the wrong side of the story so they all job so damn hard.

Na, those don't get really frequently destroyed onscreen since mostly they do support. I don't think the ones on the Battle Frontier or the Quarter got killed, for instance, or the one in 7, and the one in Zero survived as far as I remember.

To add to this thread: Every single MP Fafner until Exodus. The Titan Models were shit that ate their pilots too quickly to be useful and the three UN models in the original show were all fucking terrible (the only notable ones being the ones piloted by Canon and Michio, and their kill count wasn't exactly stellar using MP units compared to what Canon did in the islander ones and what Michio was capable of doing in Mark Ein.)

Also Mark Zwei. And Sechs, I guess.

At least the Public pilots could run when they fire their missiles.
>>
>>14094308
They didn't have enough battleships. The Federation fleet got decimated at the start of the war, because they grossly underestimated the effectiveness of mobile suits. Without their own mobile suit corps to counter it their ships were sunk by the dozen and they didn't have enough time to restock the entire navy. So they built as many ships and suits as they could, and filled in the gaps with whatever else they could fling up - including Publics (shuttles with naval missiles strapped to them), Balls (worker pods with guns strapped to them), and the Solar System (repurposed colony mirrors).

On the other hand, Publics are just basically missile trucks or gunboats in space. There's so many of them and they're so small they can evade more easily than a whole ship could (though not as easily as a mobile suit), and they can spread the fire out to make it harder on the defensive guns to shoot them all down. Moreover, they can get closer before firing, and cumulatively lay down a broader swath of anti-beam smoke all at once.

Units from MS IGLOO are obvious deathtraps, except the Big Rang which is fucking sick

The Oggo is a lesser Ball, the Zudah is basically UC's Leo. Zegock and Hildolfr are suicidal units
>>
>>14095870
oggo technically is more capable than the ball, but suffered from shitty rushed poor quality construction

hildolfr's not suicidal, they were just caught in a really bad position during a test run. given actual good usage like being deployed properly on the battlefield, it's like a guntank but a hell of a lot more effective, and not as vulnerable

Actually for the Hildolfr the conclusion was "six more days of development and this shit would have worked fine and slaughtered feds".

Everything else was a deathtrap. ESPECIALLY the Big "This things a fucking deathrap!" Rang.

I don't remember the hildolfr being defective during the battle, and the official reason for the rejection was that zeon decided to go with mobile suits instead?

The Z'gok was a formidable suit, but this thing is as close to a deathtrap as you can do before being accused of treason.
It is a suicide unit with barely any chance of retrieving the pilot, and to accomplish its mission you need an awesome pilot.

Though, you could say it doesn't count since it was used for Specials operations.

>>14099727
> I don't remember the hildolfr being defective during the battle, and the official reason for the rejection was that zeon decided to go with mobile suits instead?

That's it, they were all about MS here and there and couldn't accept a "mere" tank, even if it was simple and efficient.
>>
>>14100496
>mere
>efficient
it was a veritable ground only Mobile Armor. It was perfectly viable against MS and would have given Zeon a very reliable, capable and devastating addition to fill a very sorely missing niche in the Zeon ground forces. It was, for all intents, a highly successful machine cut for resources. The Oggo was not a lesser to the Ball either. On paper, and given proper materials and attention to production efforts and QC, it was a superior Mobile Pod. Higher performance specifications, purpose built, and a greater field of fire with more adaptable weapons mounts. It's literally an He163 made in Zeon. Unfortunately it was built like shit and cost pilots because of it.
>>
>>14100564
Which is ironic because the Ball was also just a flying cockpit to field more guns.
>>
>>14100496

They should have just adapted Z'goks for space-use.
