Why does /m/ keep saying that mecha is not popular anymore? Gundam discs sell good, plamo sells great, it's #1 Bandai's source of income. What's this 'Kids don't like robots anymore' meme if they do buy figures? Don't tell me their main audience are 50 y.o. otakus with early 80s nostalgia.

You bet.

That's too much floof for me to handle at once!

And to answer your question: WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT GUNDAM?
You posted a picture full of great /m/ shows. Shows that we aren't likely to have an equivalent of ever again. Those are the shows that matter.

Not Gundam. Gundam will still be there in the 22nd century and it will still be mostly shit with the occasional good OVA.
>>

>You posted a picture full of great /m/ shows.
Most of them are mediocre to terrible.
>>
>>14077963
says the gundamfag
>>
>>14077903
Because there used to be fifteen or more shows a year with giant robots, not counting miscellaneous OVAs and sequels. Now we're lucky if we get three a year.
>>
>>14077903
>Gundam discs sell good
Not nearly as good as they used to, though.
>>
>>14077903
>plamo sells great,
You know the demographic for Plamo?
>>
>>14077903
>Don't tell me their main audience are 50 y.o. otakus with early 80s nostalgia.
Spoiler alert: yes. Yes it is. That and late teenagers/young adults/nerds. The last time we got an honest mech show aimed straight to kids was what, Gyrozetter? And it bombed.
>>
>>14078403
>an honest mech show aimed straight to kids
Isn't that what G-Rekt was supposed to be?

It's almost true. It's young adults to mid adults, with a large proportion in their 40s and 50s.

The U.S. demographic in comparison are in the 20s with some in the early 30s.

Kids have libido too, you know. Many kids' shows have this kind of bait.

Also, it's how Shinji Takamatsu rolls. See J-Decker and Gundam X for proof.

Do you see the problem?

I don't think anyone's claiming cute girls didn't exist. But you didn't see shows that were stripped down of every element besides them until the late 90s at least.

Sometimes that's what it sounds like honestly
>>

It is not like Dangaioh was anything more than "cute girl with big ass using an Obari-mecha".
>>
>>14078655
See? It got mechs and fights.
>>
>>14077903
That picture completely matches me. Rem, Lufy, Pris, Kei&Yuri, Iczer One, etc.
I only care about the cute girls.
>>
Mecha is like superheroes, before the movies made them popular.

It's seen as lame and goofy.
>>
>>14078888
>I only care about the cute girls
Why the fuck do you watch mecha, then?
>>
>>14078892

By who?
>>
>>14078903
Not him but mecha has most best girls in anime.

The sad part is you honestly believe that

Gundam are well-known product and you could say was a brand.
Remove Gundam word from IBO, you think normies will care?
Try mecha such as Comet Lucifer, M3 and Argevollen.
They're bombed.
>>
>>14078910
Everybody honestly. Especially modern children
>>
>>14078892
Old mecha was extra goofy.
>>
>>14079072
Yeah, but it also had the benefit of being aimed at literal children

Now mecha are goofy but in the stupid way
>>
>>14079072
nice meme
>>
>>14078959

What are some examples? I might be wrong, but I've watched a fair amount of older things and nothing I've ran into really fits the bill. You get the usual harem/romcom/idol shows maybe, but even those have some kind of purpose to them.
>>
>>14079112
Meme which is real.
>>
>>14079131
What's the purpose of Najika? How's it different from some Otoshimono?
>>
>>14079136
No it's not.
>>
>>14079175
Are you serious? All old series have good amounts of goofiness. Even whole episodes of it. It's in everything from characters to atr style and design.
>>
>>14078022
Says the degenerate piece of shit that only cares about LEL HOT ANIME GIRLS XD
>>
>>14079131

how long has Rumiko Takashi been writing for? Orange Road is cute girl love triangle harem as is Urusei Yatsura
>>
>>14079263
I dunno about Kimagure but in UY is 100% comedy with the cute girl backdrop
>>
>>14079276

and more than a handful of girls who lust after MC cock
>>
>>14078043
more than 10 mecha shows in 2014.

stop the meme that mecha shows are dead.

we are getting shittons, in fact, we are getting too much of it.
>>
>>14078903
>Why the fuck do you watch mecha, then?
I just said that, didn't I?
Yui, Tomomi, Mai, Eve > bike mecha
Solnoids > paranoids
Iczer 1 > Iczer Robbo
and so on.
>>
>>14078043
There are three /m/ TV shows in the current season alone (+ one with cute daikaiju girls for totally not /m/ tokufags).
>>
>>14079289
Only two girls lust after the main character in UY after the first few episodes.
>>
>>14079486
I think Ranma a UY transcend harem preciselly because it's fun and if you removed the harem/sudden fiance premise, nobody woud notice.
>>
>>14079263
>Rumiko Takahashi
>Orange Road
pick one
>>
>>14079486
yeah if anything they fight over who gets to hate Ataru more than the others
>>
>>14077903
Gundam is not representative of the entire genre.

>>14078043
I get that I've only done one thread to update this thing thus far this year, so it's not as well spread as it used to be amongst new users, but come on, get educated!
>>
>>14079263
Jesus christ, those are fighting words. Don't insult Orange Road by lumping it in with another creator.
>>
>>14077903
Apparently liking old stuff is a bad thing now? I guess that might make some of us "hipsters", which could definitely be considered a bad thing...
