So I was browsing through youtube to look for some old anime OPs and I stumbled upon this particular video:

It's an unfinished version of the Acrobunch OP. I don't know when it was broadcasted on television (or why, for that matter) but I thought it was interesting.

Anybody know if there are other unfinished mecha OPs? I have one for Srungle that I'll be posting in a bit.

Fuck, that's really interesting. I'd love to see more of that. The only example I can think of is the Neo Ranga OPs used in the DVDs, which for some reason had simpler in-betweens during some sequences, not to mention removed the birds and made his silhouette brighter (you should play these side-by-side to see the differences):

I was wondering if the impromptu OP used in Macross' first airing (the one where they cut out all battroid/GERWALK scenes, when they actually thought of avoiding spoilers in the OP, Unicorn TV) ever came to home video

I forget if it's the OP, but I think the AnimEigo set had something related to the robot swerve in it.

I don't know about most but I get the feeling Samurenco's first version of the 2nd OP was unfinished and they were running down to the wire.

It was basically just one huge recycled clipshow of the recent eps with a few image flips which kind of looked clipped straight off the concept art.

Then afterwards the later version of the 2nd OP was a much more polished complete sequence.

Speaking of recycling:
If you know the background then Gaiking LoDM's first opening is one of the lazier ones out there.
Almost everything that's not stock footage or a still image was taken from the concept trailer with the new designs traced over it, resulting in the OP showing completely different, Bahamut Lagoon-esque, environments and different Darius mecha designs compared to what's actually in the show.

There were multiple versions of OP2 as they slowly finished animating it over the course of weeks, even after the clipshow was over. Based Manglobe never gives up. Until they went bankrupt, that is ;_;
