Because apparently Bandai isn't doing official releases of the episodes as they come out even though they did it for Ep1. Which, in turn, means no "official" subs for "fansubs" to re-do.
Oddly enough, they streamed Ep1 for free outside Japan while the 11s had to pay for it.

Fansubbing is dead anon. 9/10 of subs nowadays are just ripped from an official stream that subbed it for them. This has chased away the fansubbers who can't put out subs fast enough to compete and has created a dependency on official streams where if they aren't picking it up no one is for a long time.

For the remaining 1/10th, you have both what's remaining of the old guard and a few newcomers focusing on older shows (or both the old and new, in Saizen's case), and the select few new groups or individuals subbing shows that streams somehow don't pick up (Yokai Watch being the biggest example, since it's a long-runner). In Japan, the TB series is streamed through their paid service that charges per episode. Sunrise is waiting for it to finish off in Japan so that all the japanese fans will have already watched (and paid for it).
There were actually a lot of japanese that complained that Sunrise made Episode 1 free outside Japan even if only for a few days because they paid to see while the rest of the world did not, legally.
What's going to happen now is all 4 episodes will be either be straight to DVD release via Righstuf or it will eventually be a Premium Content (paid) on Daisuki.

ever tried talking sense to old japanese execs about changing their core business model even when their old one is dying? I mean I found the sunrise site and when to two of the places to get the download but I don't know how to transfer money in Japanese currency. Seriously though, why the fuck can't they put some protection against beams on their shields? Even with those flimsy subarms so long as you got the proper coating it would completely justify having 4 fucking shields. If beam sabers can deflect beam shots or well at least not let them bypass and put a hole in your ass, why can't you just make a shield that basically turns the whole damn front surface into a beam layer? You could just NFL ram their ass when turning it on and melt them, no need for silly sword play, and the draw back naturally is a shit ton of power used up per second but it'd be worth the versatility.
Wouldn't that make sense as a precursor for I-Field, which is basically just a very power-efficient way of blocking pew pew?

Nothing protects against a beam in the OYW except I-fields which take a large generator like what would be used on a mobile armor or beam dispersing chaff, Zeon mainly uses non-beam weaponry which can be blocked with a shield, a material that could take a beam hit like anti beam coating was only invented after the OYW, and last, beam shots haven't been deflected by a saber though theoretically possible.

The generator capacity of a Ball can't handle a beam weapon and if you did rig something, it wouldn't be cost effective enough to rationalize it when compared to the better survivability and all around performance of a GM. Further, even a GM doesn't even use a full blown rifle and uses a beam spray gun where as things like a beam cannon require an external charger like on the GM Sniper or the generator of a mobile armor.

Beam weaponry Zeon side wasn't that common. Beam rifle equipped Gelgoogs came out late in the war and most of it was fought with Zakus and Doms with physical weaponry.
I believe shields can take beam shots, just not whatever those snipers were using. Which looked like battleship repurposed cannons or something.
And the four shields on those GMs are primarily meant to defend against debris. The Thunderbolt sector being full of it.
I-Fields are still clunky bulky ass technology and I don't think it's very power efficient. Only massive fatties could field it, Big Zam, GP-03 and such. By the time it got miniaturized for MS use, it was Crossbone era and there was a time limit on its use.

I'm not going to sit here and read the manga and watch the show. I'd much rather understand the dialogue as I am watching the series. I enjoy the banter the pilots make between each other IN THE MOMENT. Its not the same. Its not even remotely the same. I've seen FLCL probably 30 times and I could probably watch the japanese version just fine because of that but I still would rather have the subs on regardless.

Looking at the script for episode 3, it would appear that the ClasJap release is indeed the reason why the previous English subs for TB are ass.
One big problem is that they can't even into numbers:

It's accurate to the dialog, whether the original dialog is the same as the manga, I can't check.
The line by itself doesn't make any sense in the context of UC, where only (supposedly) 8 RX-78 units were made, and it appears that Io only received one of them.
A little googling only tells me that everyone ignores Thunderbolt when it comes to consistency with UC.
My guess to the meaning behind the line is that they received several Gundams and that they're used as replacement parts for whatever Io trashes.
My answer is that unless we have the official script of the episode in Japanese, I can only trust my ears and the line I've produced is what my ears tell me.

I know some people in the group were contemplating on doing subs for the songs but the final decision was to not do it. They don't have Japanese lyrics like the EDs and they're uncredited original pieces made for Thunderbolt so I think the person doing it just gave up.
I remember chat logs with like, 3 different interpretations of the same line because the engrish was so bad.

The translation is entirely made up, as there is no basis for the word "tingle" in the sentence at all, and the "nō" doesn't mean 脳, brain, but 能 ability to, function.
She's basically asking him if his leg socket still functions (being very liberal here, but the Manko subs seems to have taken quite a lot of liberties as well, so it should be fine), not if his brain is tingling. A lot of the lines seem to be half-made up guesslations.

The line at 12:37:38 is indeed incorrect, the line is "師団はこの宙域の死守を命じている" meaning "Our division/squad/batallion/whatever has ordered us to defend this area to the last man."
For some reason my head processed that as 同胞団, "douhoudan," instead of 師団, "shidan." And people were more caught up in what 同胞団 should be translated as, rather than catch the mistake, because we forgot what we put it down as in the first episode.
As for the line about "electronic brain crystal pancake elderly," the literal line of "脳が痒くない?" is "Is your brain itchy?" the editor raised a flag when he read it, as you did, and asked what it means. I gave the same reasoning as the other people in this thread and he seemed convinced. I also gave alternatives like "Do you have a headache?" "Is your head/brain sore?" "Are your legs itchy? (because by this point the blaze077 and positron releases were out and ClasJap translated it as "Are your legs itchy?" so why not just follow the crowd.) Finally the TLC proposed "Does your brain tingle?" and we kept that one.
If Karla was asking Darryl if his leg socket still functions using "能," she would have to use 機能 with the full sentence being "機能がかゆくない?" (kinou ga kayuku nai?) Which you can't really translate because itchy/tingle are not attributes you can give to how well something functions. You can change かゆく to かるく (karuku) meaning light, then your line would be "Is it easy to move."
The usual application of the word 能 "nou/noh/nō" when used as a noun by itself is to refer to the stage plays with the freaky masks.
This series is pretty cool but holy shit, fuck all the vocal songs. The last shot should be the FAG stepping on a Zeon radio. As if Zeeks weren't shit enough already.

I will tell you that I did guess about 3 lines in the episode 2 script, with 2 of them being background lines and the line "Another decoy?" which I had as "Come to me!" but the TLC caught it and changed it to "Another decoy?"
This is in the scene where Fisher and Darryl fight the Gundam.
I also don't know if the "No explosion!" lines made it into the final script, but I was against those getting changed from "That (the explosion) wasn't big enough!" because the line for that was "軽いぞ" "It's light(mass light) with the meanings:
1) whatever Fisher did hit with his laser did not produce a large enough explosion for it to be the Gundam.
or
2) He only grazed his target.
In either case, the line "No explosion!" is misleading because there is indeed an explosion on the screen, just not the one the characters were looking for. If that change stayed and you were thinking "oh man these idiots don't know what they're talking about there's totally an explosion on the screen right now," that's why.
