So I've been meaning to watch this but I've heard that its pretty terrible. Is it really that bad? Is it even worth watching?

Not gonna spiel while phone posting but I thought that the cast was mostly one note and boring (with a few exceptions), the generational aspect felt wasted, the entire second gen came to nothing, Asemu didn't contribute meaningfully to the finale, there was some very thin emotional manipulation (Lu in particular), the action wasn't exciting and the villains were headwrecking the whole way through.
The entire faction could apparently have cone to Earth at any time because no-one filled a plot hole, several of them out live their useful lifespan and get in the way of the next gun's villains by traipsing uselessly around for no reason, their motives are nonsense and one of them is introduced in the final episode with literally no dialogue. It's maddening.

The animation's great and the music's fabulous for what it's worth. The writing and pacing get worse as the show goes on though. I thought that the first episodes were pretty fantastic and charming though.

I watched episodes 1 through 10 and so far its pretty okay. The pacing is kinda fast but I like Flit and woolf well enough.
Does it get worse from here? I heard the generations after flit are pretty shit.

I liked the second gen a lot myself. Gen 3 starts off fairly decent but shits the bed really hard by the time OP 4 hits.
All the episodes after flit feel really disconnect, the whole generation gimmick really ruins the show. I liked the gen 1 mobile suit designs, but the gen 2 and 3 ones are really bad.

The generational idea is both one of the best and worst ideas the show has going for it. It's a great idea on paper, but the show never really seems all that interested in exploring it very much.
We watched UC grow and evolve over a space of only twenty years and the feel changed with each development.
We spend the better part of a century in AG and outside of aesthetic tweaks, it never really feels like much time has passed beyond maybe a few weeks. Despite characters getting older, the whole setting weirdly feels like it goes into stasis whenever the camera's not on it.
Flit takes over the Earth government at the end of Gen 2 and basically goes and Josef Stalin on its ass...and then come Gen 3, it amounts to absolute fuck-all and we're back to the same kind of crooked but not outright evil govt as before.
Really, if you're going to do a generation-hopping story that spans sixty years (cause they just sort of cheated their way into calling it a century) then you really need to give a LOT more thought to what will change with the years than this show did.

The generation gimmick was the thing that originally got me interested in the show, but it ended up kinda feeling like 3 different shows that could have been good if they were each separate, but felt kinda mashed together. Plus some of the characters didn't really transition well from gen to gen. Flit originally was a kid trying to avenge his family, then in gen 2 he turned into a heartless dictator.

It's decent up until the last quarter, where peacenik Kio makes it all go to shit. Actually not just Kio - revelations about the Vegans make their strategy look incredibly retarded, and makes two antagonists in particular look stupid.
People have already gone over the generational thing. My biggest issue with it was important characters from earlier arcs often got sidelined almost completely.

just finished the show and I liked the first 15 episodes the most, after that is was a slow and steady drop of quality. Kio was by far the worst thing about the show.

2nd gen was pointless as fuck. Assem and THE HEART meeting and being school mates didn't even have a proper resolution to their conflict. So there was never really much of a connection between the designated hero and the designated villain.
Flit had a raging hate boner for the Vagans his entire life. Then in the last (or was it 2nd last) episode, after he made his entire career and passion Exterminating Vagan scum, he's suddenly had a change of heart mid-battle. I mean sudden since there's practically no notable reason for him to suddenly drop his ideals (that he's held since a kid) just like that. After hating the shit out of the Vagans for his life, his grandson told him nah, the vagans are cool so he's like yeah, ok, I'd stop mass murdering them.
Which brings me to the Vagans. They are, for the most part, an unsympathetic bunch. I'm usually annoyed by the sort of fans who like to shout "(extremist character) did nothing wrong!", but in this case, Flit really was the only interesting thing about the damn show.
Still better than Reconguista or 00 S2.

From the very beginning, its very easy to tell the target audience is literally toddlers for AGE. Its so naive and cringeworthy that watching it felt painful. Even the mechanical designs reeked of this toddler quality.
