Currently playing Front Mission 3, and I will say I am enjoying it. Will we ever get more Front Mission besides evolved?

At least they're trying.

Why would you ever NOT want him to spam ROFUP1? It chains with itself.
>>
FM5 was fun, squad tactics are fun, shame Launchers are basically worthless.
>>
>>14058733
Is it true that the english scripts of the front mission games were heavily edited to be less grimdark and more of a T rating?
>>
>>14059176
FM is one of those things that unfortunately got the short end of the stick in localization.

3 got the worst of it, because they edited out all references to the other games. Also they censored it.

>the Armored Core producer

Oh neat, I wonder what game he was behind

>V, VD

FUCK.

Well, I guess slow and plodding can work with a turn-based game
>>
>>14059479

V and VD are only slow and plodding if you're not playing with other players, who are just zooming around the map like cunts and kicking people in the face
>>
>>14059485
>V and VD are only slow and plodding if you're not playing with other players

Front Mission isn't really supposed to be a 2-player game. Only Evolved is really like that.
>>
>>14059517

I know, I'm just saying that V/VD are closer to the cutscenes of Front Mission, with a bunch of faggots zooming around and firing billions of missiles, than the relaxed pace of the turn-based strategy
>>

The Front Mission series was actually created with a western release in mind. If I remember correctly Toshiro Tsuchida actually had large portions of the games in English and ready for an easy localization when Square was like "Nah" and just decided not to go through with it.

That's the reason most people never heard of Front Mission in the west until 3 randomly appeared because he finally pushed it through.

And 3 actually did well! Well enough that Square, in their infinite wisdom, set WAAAY too high of a goal for Front Mission 4 and considered it a flop when it didn't sell like crazy.

That's the reason we also didn't get 5, even though 5 was very good.

Front Mission: Evolved was a travesty and Toshiro Tsuchida left Square when he wasn't even allowed to participate in it's development. I have low hopes for a new Front Mission game now that the creator of the series is gone.

I've inly played 3 and 4, both are some of my favorite games. I really enjoyed 4 the most and it is still one the best turn based strategy games I've played. 4 defiantly felt a lot different then 3 as well.
>>
>>14058733
I bought a Front Mission Zenith action figure from suncoast movies with I was 12. I could never find the game it belonged to, and I just randomly found a copy at a used video game store about a year ago.

Sometimes I want to capture something, like that extremely rare Ho Qibing 0 I think it has more value to me in one piece than as a scrap heap.

Were you using pSX? I had the same problem; It would freeze and crash once a Wanzer lost a part.

Use ePSXe or PCSX-R. It may be daunting at first with the plugins and all. Don't miss this game out.

It was ePSXe170, to be exact.
It keeps freezing after a stage I recall being close to right after the battle with the Extended mercenaries, with the Indian, Black and Carzy guys, I'll have to look up the stage again.

The issue is, that for some reason, ePSXe won't save on the memory card, and all of my attempts to recreate one have failed (unless I was just doing it wrong), so I can't exactly transfer emulators either.

Are there melee weapons in this game?

If so, how viable is a melee only robot?

Or is it one of those games where you HAVE to start with a slow shitty robutt who only uses guns and if you want to make a fast choppy unit you have to wait until the end game cause that's where all the good robots are?

These games have never had swords, which is frankly dumb

They have pilebunkers and rods, why not sharp rods
>>
>>14060019

>>
>>14060098
>But that's stupid, how can you effectivelt cause blunt trauma bashing mechs with a sword?

Same way they've always done it

If it's good enough for knechts, it's good enough for mechs
>>
>>14060100
Because the games at least attempt to keep an air of realism. There's no way a sword would be sharp enough or strong enough to be wielded against a big ass robot, unless you made it so thick it was a club. A pile and a club are both more feasible in terms of durability and ability to damage a heavily armored opponent.

>>14060104
So you're saying... put swords in... even though the only effective way to use them would be to wield them like a club? At that point all you've got is a smaller club with a flimsier handle.
>>
>>14060130
>Because the games at least attempt to keep an air of realism

Bipedal war machines

So no
>>
>>14060104
>>14060134
Even in the first argument about this the pic shows that it's more effective to use blunt attacks on a heavily armored enemy which is what mechs are.

Anyone with half a brain knows how a fictional setting can have it's own established rules. Just because there is one area that defies traditional logic, doesn't mean that every rule just goes out the window.

>>14060151
I don't think wanzers are really dexterous enough to effectively utilize them any differently from a club. So not really much point.
>>
>>14060164
>I don't think wanzers are really dexterous enough to effectively utilize them any differently from a club

But it's got a spike AND a hammer end

And if you really wanted to mechanize things, you could have the spike end be a pilebunker, thus providing you with a reach advantage superior to that of actual pilebunkers
>>
>>14060062

You need the bios and I forget what else. I think Retroarch's site tells you how to set it up.
>>
>>14060160

No, hammers are vastly superior to clubs for the same reason pilebunkers are superior to fists or bullets are superior to pretty much anything

Same amount of force concentrated in a smaller area means armor penetration, meaning you're more likely to hit the vittles, like the articulation, the power plant, or the pilot
>>
>>14060100
You can get swords in the 5th game, they're treated as rods.
>>

Right just finished Emma's campaign in front mission 3 on my psp went to start on a fan translated version of FM2, I downloaded forever ago and discovered none of the in-between battle dialogue has been translated Isozone the website I got It from said there was a translated script for all the story on the translator's website but the site is down and it looks like the translation will never be completed. Don't suppose anyone has that script

Nah, I was talking about the Alternative script. It'd be actually okay with only the script translation since menus can be switched to English and there are no basically dialogues with random people and stuff, just storyline.

Second seemed kinda meh storywise to me, what with the abnormal survivor Wen and whatnot.

They're almost as OP as grenades once you max AP and get some accuracy upgrades.Double assault or DoubleShot2 works too.

Too bad only Alisha's route has one guy who can do maximum damage with them.
>>

Emma's route has you fight harder enemies, but Alisha's route generally requires more strategy

What.
She runs the same SG/melee setup as Kazuki by default.

Though I always make her SG/MG, because I don't need another Kazuki.

They would use said money to remake various other early FFs instead, more like. I honestly wouldn't mind this, since I have a friend who prefers action RPGs.

>>14076227

I think I had one run with Miho as rifle/missile user, it actually works.

Her Rifle ranks up faster than anything else, she's a Rifle pilot. Thus she's deadweight for the purposes of minmaxing, in the end I just use her as another launcher.

OH man the best was stacking Pilot Eject with shield bash 3 or flame-thrower. Absolutely fucking unethical, that or Pilot Eject with Pilot target, sometimes i felt kindah bad for those poor bastards reduced to a 9mm and then eating 30mm slugs to the face.
>>
>>14078076
Tactics Ogre wasn't even made by Square, and FFT had pretty much the save dev team with Square's name stamped on the box when it was finished. It would be folly to try to claim the "mechanical depth" has anything to do with Square.
>>
>>14078076
FM3 has no tactical depth, just stick everyone with machineguns/shotguns, teach them all ROFUP1 as many times as possible, proceed to win the game.
>>
>>14078134
Do Emma's route, buy grenades for everyone ASAP, assplode your own team to get to B Rank fast, win.
>>
>>14078103
Eject punch doesn't really synergise well with Pilotkill. When EjectPunch works, you just need a mate nearby to board the enemy mech and the enemy pilot is too damn stupid to steal your other mech in return. After that you don't need PilotKill.

Even Pilotkill 3 still requires at least 2 hits to kill the pilot,so it's really underpowered compared to EjectPunch(which takes up only 1 computer slot).

Alternatively you can try to combo 6x of PilotKill1, but that would require even more luck to work better than EjectPunch.
>>
>tfw you'll never get to use Minotaur Arms 2: even more bullshit without hacking the game
Pretty sure FM5 didn't have any way to easily beak the game, shame it made launchers even more pointless thanks to being incompactible with the link system.
>>
>>14078161
It was more so a combo of Eject punch and Shield bash.
>>
>>14078161
>the enemy pilot is too damn stupid to steal your other mech in return

this never happened to me. in fact i once abandoned kazukis mech for a generic shitty JSDF one for some reason, next turn i'm getting wrecked by my own wanzer
>>
>>14075687
I personally think so.
>>14075715
I thought you could get the Qibing 0 in that email chain online shop?
>>
>>14078161
Personally, I prefer Eject Punch.
Gets the pilot out of the Wanzer, and if it's something I can afford to shoot down, that's one less enemy to deal with, or at least, I can attack a helpless Wanzer and deal with the pilot later.
>>
What is everyone's favourite Fm for me it was 3 I loved the ability to steal enemy mechs and I really enjoy the pixelated low poly look of the ps1
>>
>>14081033

>>
>>14081033
>>14081046
Yeah, 3 is my favorite too. First game I spent more than 100 hours on, I think.
>>
>>14078134

FM in general has problems with tactical depth, it's the usual Japanese deal where you can resort to grinding to win any battle (it's not as bad as Nippon Ichi "tactical" battles but still)
>>
>>14081090
FM5 did it fine, the placement of your units actually mattered there.
>>
>>14081128

Well, I thought all this pilot personality and friendly fire stuff would be important too, but somehow i ended up just linking everything and not caring at all cause, you know, repair backpacks fix all the collateral damage.

Placement matters but your upgrades/remodels matter so much more it feels just trivial.
>>
>>14078849
You can't buy the Imaginary Number wanzers anywhere, and the Qibing 0 is a lot better than the Shunwang 1 as an Assault.

3 is my favorite and my second most played PS1 game after FFT.

I think 4 suffered from splitting your attention between 2 different parties too much. And they were still working out the kinks with the links system.

5 was great and had the best battle system.
>>
>>14081836
MINOTAUR ARMS, FM4 took a while to let you play with nice toys on both sides but once it did it was fine. 5 had me do janky shit like make custom gunner wanzers out of a Eidos torso, Kyoyun arms and Frost legs because the basic gunner wanzers they had in stock couldn't handle the weight of a good rifle, took me until endgame once I got my Grille Sechs H+Grapple FS2 legs on it till I had a non frankensteined gunner wanzer.

Here's what he told me by e-mail:

>>Thank you for your interest in the Front Mission series and in our project. We regret to inform you that our project manager as well as the other founders left the project some time ago. We are in the process of shutting down the project as per our founders' instructions, hence why the video page has been taken down. We are looking at options to host the patches, videos, and articles somewhere online for archiving purposes. Should the founders return to do any future work, then we will let the fans know if that time arrives (Pineda, Angelo. "Re: Your Status." Message to Angel Esguerra IV. 1 Jan. 2016. E-Mail).

And here's what he told me on why the project was abandoned:

>>The decision to abandon the project is up to the founders to discuss, if they wish to make it public. All we can say is that interest in Front Mission is virtually dead given the official end of the franchise (the rumour of a new FM is still a rumour and even then, no one from the FM development team remains at Square Enix) and that the founders never planned to go beyond FM5 initially. We can say that they at least wanted the five main numbered FM games to be accessible in English and we have done that. This would be a different story if we were getting paid, but we are not.

>>The site, the blog, and everything else related to the project will be shut down, including this email. Hence the note we are looking at online options to put our content on for archiving purposes (Pineda, Angelo. "Re: Your Status." Message to Angel Esguerra IV. 2 Jan. 2016. E-Mail).

If you are interested in finishing where they started, by way of translating all light novels and manga, as well as finding copies of the FM1 and FM Gun Hazard movies, good luck.

At it's core I don't think Front Mission Evolved was the worst idea in the world and I think there is a place for action focused Front Mission games. Sure, evolved turned out bad and its failure was one of the final nails in the Front Mission coffin. This wasn't unexpected considering the team they hired to make it, so plenty of people predicted this long ahead of release. However; I think too many people bang on the it's bad because it's not turn based strategy drum. Gun hazard wasn't a strategy and that game turned out great and in that way I think the idea of a 3D Front Mission action game also has the potential to be fun as well.
