I'm going out on a limb here, but what is the closest I can get to a FSS video game?
I prefer action, but anything will do if it's closer.

Knights of the Old Republic.

Is that just Bang doll fan art or fan animation?
Maybe Xenogears or Xenoblade? They have that high-fantasy/science-fantasy thing going on, although neither are anywhere near as baroque and fairytale-ish as FSS.
It's a hard question, I've never really seen anything comparable to FSS. Not in the slavering fanboi "it's so much better"-kinda way but because it just feels so unique. Kind of like Dune.

That's my problem. There's just no equivalent combination of fantasy and science fiction.
I tried white knight chronicles, but that was just pure fantasy with no actual technology or space setting.
And no other mech games really even touch on fantasy aesthetics.
I wish Nagano didn't feel the need to keep the franchise stuffed up his own ass so nobody could enjoy it but him

>There's just no equivalent combination of fantasy and science fiction.
I have hope still.

Vanguard Bandits on the PS1 or Frame Gride on the Dreamcast are probably the closest in terms of tone and design.
Frame Gride doesn't have a legit English release, but there exist patches for it.

I really want to to watch the FSS movie but the torrent with the only seeders has no subs
Honestly the closest thing I can think of and even then it's a stretch is Xenogears.
It's a shame the world of FSS would make a great setting for an rpg.

The old OVA? Bakabt has it I'm pretty sure, and they always have seeds.
>>14052588
>Bakabt
thanks!
>>14052588
>>14052915
Oh is there more then old OVA? I know there's the manga but what else is there? I really love the mech designs and I really want to get into this series
Ok, uh, dumb question: what does FSS stand for?
>>14053472
Five Star Stories
>>14053200
Pretty sure there isn't. All we get is the comic and the OVA that covers the first arc. :(

Just went through what's translated of the mango again and it just astounds me how much wasted potential the entire thing carries, especially now that gothicshit is a thing. At least we'll always have the glorious mortar headd designs.
>>14054928
>gothicshit
That is a most excellent burn there bro
>>14054951
Would you rather I call Mamoru Nagano's Super Jagged Anorexia Fashion Time?
>>14055100REEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>14054986
Gothic shit is really bad, the waists are too long.
His FSS era designs were great.

I like he has a good mix of robots. You have the weird and spindly fantasy robots like the Auge and Jagd Mirage, the more regular human ones like the Bang Doll and Junchoon. Then you also have the fuckoff-thick "I laugh at your pathetic attempts to harm me" ones like the Boowrays and Ashura Temple.
>>14051073
>And no other mech games really even touch on fantasy aesthetics.
There's some, but it's more in line with things like Escaflowne and Dunbine than FSS (Vanguard Bandits and Galaxy Robo both come to mind here.)
>You will never see the Emperor Rescue arc animated
>>14058471
I'd rather see a good adaptation of the Colus-Hagooda war with the LEDs, Vatshu, Junchoon, Biblos, Boowrays and a Siren all in action. Hell, the Maglows and Berlins are pretty neat for grunts as well. Or the story of Muse van Reyback in Kastenpo, which would have less MH combat but is probably the best standalone piece in FSS and has the Ashura Temple, Bang Doll, Schpeltor and standard Zakker.
>>14050943
One must Fall is the only good robot fightan game I can think of.
Programming a battle system for FFS-style combat would be fun. Like a lot of the combat up to the Emperor's Rescue Arc has them carefully manage the subsystems, which you'd probably represent by preprogramming your steps and setting up the various outputs on your engines and then hitting go.
Why did he lose his mind, /m/? What finally drove him over the edge?

People in their 50's go through some strange mid-life crisis and then do something crazy to escape from it.
See: Tomino post-Victory, Anno's Rebuild 3.0, Masamune Shirow's horsecocks, etc.

>I'm going out on a limb here, but what is the closest I can get to a FSS video game?
I just want an anime. It's not like the Mortar Headds would be that hard to animate either.
