You know, it was probably this nigger here that made me remember Digimon after I stopped watching it as a kid.
Something about it being a giant robot covered in guns, bazookas and rocket launchers stuck with me. Maybe it's just that somewhere, even in my childlike mind, I could tell that the Digimon design team sat down one day, looked at every other collectible monster from every franchise (including their own) and thought "we can make something cooler than that"
And I appreciate it even more now that I'm an adult and know that this evolution is basically the embodiment of Jen's realization that violence is sometimes justified. Still my favorite Tamer-Digimon team to this day.

Especially the virus version, which is a rotting cyborg zombie, and may have been the first version of him. Most virus versions of vaccine digimon are rather boring palette swaps, but MetalGreymon's lore really sells me on it
In fact, that's one of the things I like most about Digimon. It's designs have some nice lore here and there, and I sometimes wish it would play a greater roll in their story appearances, rather than just being flavor text.
Like the aforementioned Andromon actually being incomplete, or Machindramon being chimera-like mess of other cyborgs, etc.

The best thing to do when thinking about Digimon's multiversal chronology is to stop thinking about Digimon's multiversal chronology, because it's basically hundreds of people throwing random ideas out and every one of those ideas are canon. What IS known, because of when things were released, was that Mugendramon is the very first Digimon to ever be at the Ultimate level, because nothing before Digimon World HAD the Ultimate level and it was invented afterwards (filtering back to the Tamagotchis pretty soon after DW). Though, there were some things like Heraklekabuterimon and Hououmon that existed beforehand which would later be retconned from Perfect to Ultimate, so...

Armor is almost-but-not-quite Champion strength in most cases, which is made up for by the sort of nebulous combat advantage that Digimon get from having partners. Once they actually get their Champion forms in the second half of the show they ditch using their Armor forms entirely in favor of those. An Ultimate Cyborg Digimon that was perfected by improving the incomplete Andromon. The percentage of Chrome Digizoid parts which compose its body has increased, and it is impossible to miss the extent of its gains in offensive and defensive power from this, compared to Andromon. Additionally, as Andromon it was incomplete, and by adding Chrome Digizoid parts to the Bio-Synapse circuits which govern its thinking, it became self-aware, making it possible for it to execute its objectives. Because it is both a Vaccine-species and a Cyborg, its attacks against Virus-types are not only fearfully accurate but also intense. Its Special Move is taking the fission energy emanating from the blue neutron-control turbine on its right shoulder and the fusion energy emanating from the red atom-control turbine on its left shoulder, combining them at the tip of its hands, and then firing off a beam which annihilates the opponent (Atomic Ray).
