The problems with IS2 were mostly on the writing side of things rather than the direction, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
The real deciding factor will likely be the lead writer, but I honestly haven't seen enough of his work to predict how it might turn out. I'm willing to give the series a chance, at least.

I don't remember the issue being the script. I remember the issue being the incredibly excessive amount of fanservice (and not even good fanservice). The entire season was almost entirely filler bullshit, featuring classics such as "Charlotte runs around the school without panties", or "Cecilia still can't cook, isn't that hilarious" or "the girls all chase around Ichika, wearing princess outfits this time". There's that awful Ichika's birthday episode (stock fetish outfits is probably the laziest form of fanservice), and the two episodes adding Russia's sister to the harem. Standard field trip episode. And then maybe 2 or 3 episodes of actual story across the entire season.
S1 had a pretty decent balance of plot and PLOT. S2 did not. In my eyes, the blame falls either on the director, or the producers. Script writer just writes the scenario they're given, no? I'm hoping it was the producers that wanted to go full fanservice. Or maybe the later novels really were that awful and there was never a real chance for it to be good.

I kinda knew it wouldn't work out but the director and the animators and everything about the show made it seem like Reina and Kumiko had way more chemistry than Kumiko at that other guy. I'm not really a yurifag because there's plenty of straight romances I like (see Hyouka for a Kyoani example), but every conversation, every scene between the two girls was just so much better than with the dumb guy who did nothing of interest.
