This is going to be so dumb. Kuratas is going to tear the shit out of MegaBot. It's built on a better platform, it's faster, I don't see MegaBot even being able to get a shot in on it as Kuratas is able to drive fairly fast.

Any news of this?

Why is the Megabot so fucking horrible?
Why can't the west into mecha at all?

the hilarious thing is that both mechs look like different western mecha designs
>>
Haha holy shit, at least visually it looks like a Tractor trying to fight the starship Enterprise.
>>
They're both crappy piles of shit. They could get beaten by a fork lift.
>>
I'm waiting for the fight where the Megabot topples on its back when it hits a slope.

It looks pretty damn top-heavy with a base that looks like it ain't gonna keep it standing on a slope while the Kuratas at least has a wide base.

I think MegaBot should be disqualified for being not being a mecha. It's just a gun platform on treads, essentially a tank. It's "legs" are fused together and basically fixed and its "arms" barely have any articulation. It looks like a mecha but it certainly ain't one.
>>
I hope Suidobashi Heavy Industry is working on Great Kuratas so they can bring it out if anything happens to the first one.

It's scary. The American mech looks like a ghetto hunk of junk while the Japanese one looks like a high-tech piece of machinery ready to fuck shit up.
I've seen this before. This is classic Hollywood.
The American mecha will either win via sheer MURICA pride and determination or the Japanese mech will go rogue and it'll be up to the junky underdog Amerimech to save everyone.
I can see it all now. Japan is doomed.

>>
>>14038767
>MURICA pride and determination
The Kuratas is made of dreams and hope.
The man that made it, he made it because he had a dream, he had the same dream as us /m/en, and he did it, he made a functioning robot. The Kuratas is the embodiment of that person's dreams, determination and hard work.
The Megabot doesn't have anything meaningful beyond its MURICA pride as far as we can tell from their advertising, and that's worthless to anyone that isn't an american.
The Kuratas is born because one man had the /m/ dream, and the /m/ dream has no borders, as evident by the many different nationalities of /m/en.

Or at the very least, if they're sticking with the yellow and green, put a Greenbay Packers logo on it.
>>
>>14038909
The internals and electronics are what make the Megaboy trash. That is, it has none. It's driven with an array of hydraulic control levers directly actuating the pistons. Kuratas has an advanced optical FCS. Do the math.

Kuratas can't walk either. They're both robot torsos on wheels that are made to look like legs.

To be honest what do we really expect from this "fight"?

Pilot safety is a big concern so they wont be shooting anything particularly lethal (hell they might even use paintball). I dont really know how melee weapons would work, for safety reasons again.

Something tells me this fight will basically boil down to a shooting gallery of DEX vs STR with the american unit capable of dealing/taking more damage but being more stationary.

>>

>>14039538
It was $500,000. Still not a lot, but slightly more than what "tens of thousands" implies. They've also apparently picked up a lot of venture investment from the publicity.

They're still poor as shit, but they're less poor than they were when they built that first demonstration model. 1 year and $500,000 is not a ton in engineering time and money, though.

You can blame this: Macross>Robotech>Battletech=totally western mecha design. The original western mecha design is Rosie from the Jetsons and old movie robots from fantastical sci-fi worlds and has taken ideas from the Japanese take on it every decade or so.

Patlabor is filled with examples of mecha with 4-6 arthropod-esque legs ending in trackballs. That design quirk was popularized by Izubuchi and Masamune in the 80s.

As >>14042547 mentioned, what we think of as "western" mecha design has actually been traded back and forth between the east and west several times over the last century.

-Super robots were inspired by the costumes of Samurai and Kabuki performers (eastern), as well as the robots of early American scifi, from Robby the Robot to the Thunderbirds (western)

-What we think of as the archetypal "militaristic" mecha designs -- VOTOMS, Dougram and Macross -- were inspired by a mixture of super robots and WWII-era military technology.

-Battletech/Mechwarrior/etc. were a mishmash of designs lifted straight from Dougram and Macross, and original designs heavily "inspired" by them. For better or worse, the designs that defined a good chunk of Western mecha aesthetic -- in popular movies, video games and other media -- got their start in Japan.

It's an influence that's bounced back and forth over the years.
