I guess they missed the English release of Freedom Wars and how Seattle wasn't a chosen city and the closest anyone in the west coast can choose aside from LA was Edmonton.
It's because it was on the Vita, wasn't it.

In all seriousness, I don't blame the city for wanting to get any recognition, since most of the movie industry in Canada is concentrated heavily in Vancouver or Toronto (and the Revenant was flimed around the Calgary area which is adding more salt to the wound) , a person there would jump at the chance to go 'Senpai noticed me!'
>>

Yet another Edmontonian here. This is true and our local flim and TV industry has been dogshit since SCTV left. All we've ever filmed here since were awful Christmas movies at the mall and a few old-timey productions that wanted to use the steam train at Fort Edmonton.

Objectively speaking, it is kind of nice knowing our city is the capital of a fictional Canada-Russia bloc. I get the feeling Japan feels Canada is a "neutral" anglosphere country that they can blow up without making anyone feel bad, and Edmonton was just lucky enough to have its google street view images traced.
>>
>so many Edmontonians here in /m/

Brandon Schatz, co-owner of Variant Edition Comics and Culture, says the Gundam series, which has been on the air in some form since 1979, is “one of the biggest animes out there right now.”

He describes the show as “basically people piloting giant robots. Lots of fighting, good vs. evil type of stuff.”

Do you suppose it's more or less lazy than when studios send people around to take photographs of real locations and then draw over them to make a duplicate shot?

On the one hand, there's effort involved in going there and getting a shot.
On the other hand, you could argue there is more creativity involved in drawing a building from a different perspective, even with a reference image, compared to literally tracing over one.

>trade expert
>thinks China is part of TPP
>doesn't understand foreign investment
>thinks the trade deficit with Mexico can be used to pay for a wall
Trump appears to be under the impression that when countries enter a trade agreement, the countries themselves are just throwing money back and forth and sometimes you wind up with a situation where China takes $300 billion more from the US than we took from them. He thinks that money is somehow owned by the governments of those countries and not a variety of corporations and private individuals.

When we enter into a trade pact with Mexico and run a deficit, it's because American companies and consumers want to buy cheap foreign products. There is every possibility for them to buy more expensive goods that are made domestically, but the vast majority of people value a wad of cash more than a (potential, middling) increase in quality; we eat at Long John Silver's, not Le Bernadin. And despite that money being spent on a foreign product, it's most often an American company reaping the benefit of selling something they bought even cheaper from Mexico anyway. Then you've got people with more money left over in their pockets that they can then spend at other businesses, spreading cash all around. And the money that makes it back to Mexico in the form of a deficit? A good chunk is used to invest right back into America, because that's where the money is in the first place.

Trump doesn't understand global finance, and you shouldn't take his success as a real estate mogul as evidence that he is well-informed and capable in all forms of business and economics. His wealth comes from casinos, hotels, golf courses, and housing developments. He didn't even futz around with stock until relatively recently, and while he's profited, they were all extremely safe bets; it's not actually hard to make money in the stock market when you're loaded to start with and play conservatively.

He's nowhere NEAR a "trade expert".

Let's be fair, what else can they do?

The US government is in charge of the border and immigration. If states like Arizona and Texas could build walls on their borders with Mexico, they would have done it ages ago.

As it is now, all they can do is try to pass state legislation like Arizona's SB 1070.
>>
>>14040202
>Let's be fair, what else can they do?
enforce laws about hiring illegals, but businesses don't pay politicians for that because it doesn't make money
>>
>>14040207
That's part of the problem.

Democrats like illegals because they'll be loyal voters if they're legalized.

Republicans don't like illegals, but the businesses holding their balls love them for cheap labor.

US politics are pretty fucked.

An older friend of the family went south for various business, he is a developer by trade. He talked about how hilariously hypocritical southern complaints about immigrants. He said that the same folks who would come to meetings and complain about migrant labourers displacing jobs etc, would be going down to the border to fill up a pickup truck with some Jose's to lay some foundations for cheap. These would be the staunch republican voters. The whole immigrant issues is like 90% of U.S. problems, internally created and blamed on evil bogeymen foreigners. It is especially laughable considering we are both Canadian and we get to watch both sides of your country stupidly rip it'self apart.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Not that I support Trump as much as any /pol/ faggots do. I really do think that his pettiness is a huge negative, though. I don't mind (I prefer, actually) a candidate who doesn't feel the need to be politically correct over stupid shit but I find it hard to respect a man who attacks another candidate outside of policy or character. Or the stupid shit going on with Twitter right now. Trump has no concept of taking the high road in an argument. That is very different from bending over and letting your opponent have his way with you but /pol/ doesn't understand the world outside of memes and bantz so they think it's a positive. Not that the other Republican candidates are always perfect but it's just not pleasant to see. So the only way I can vote according to my beliefs this election is Trump, or if the convention wants to ensure we lose the general election anyway then I get Cruz, who has a whole different set of issues.

Like many others before it, this election is two shitty choices, from the primaries to the general election.

Sage for off-topic.

The wall won't be anything other than a publicity stunt and landmark. Just yesterday on the news they were talking about finding a tunnel that went a few miles from some restaurant to some fancy house on the other side of the border. If it's anything less than 30 feet high, all they'll need is a pickup truck, a ladder, and a rope to slide down on the other side. Regardless of whether Trump actually gets Mexico to foot the bill for the wall or not, it's still a huge waste of money.

Unless, of course, we're going to have razor wire across the top and sniper towers like the fucking Gestapo. Then you're spending a shitload of money to pay guards to patrol the wall, in which case there are still tunnels going under it.
>>
>>14040821
He can just build a wall like Israel's, which is affordable and already works without constant guard supervision. It even stands up to rocket attacks.
>>
>>14038923

No one brought them up, but your shitty grammar and the particular way you spelled "wreak" tells me that's where you're from.
>>
>>14040879
It's only 25 feet tall. Back a pickup truck up to it, tie a rope around the trailer hitch, stand an extension ladder up in the back of the truck, climb over the ladder and slide down the rope. If Palestinians were trying to sneak into Israel to get better jobs, that wall would not work at all. It "works" because the Palestinians don't want to sneak into the other country to find work.

Fun fact: there is already a border fence along much of the US-Mexican border. The contractors who build it used illegal Mexican laborers.

The real solution to stop illegal immigration: fine companies for hiring Mexicans. But the Republican party doesn't want to do that for obvious reasons.

This problem can be resolved within a year if people really wanted it to. Stop treating illegals as citizens and financially cripple anyone who hires them.
>>
>>14040821
I would imagine BP would still patrol the border even with a wall. It sounds pretty silly to build a wall and not patrol it in case anything gets past.

As to whether the US BP could actually do, I can't say. People say the US-Mexico border is too long to be successfully patrolled, but Australia strictly controls its borders and manages.
