Ein is German for one. It's less that they named it after Ein and more of that it's the first graze with a AV system.

He's literally a head and torso with his brain hooked directly into the graze. In the brief shot of his face we saw in the cockpit his eyes are glazed over because he is using the Graze's cameras to see now. I can't tell if he would be in constant pain or feel nothing.

What I find odd is that jellybean has no support, artillery, sniper or mass production HiMo suits. Is the Graze really the only suit still in production? Teiwaz customs are an end-war frame they completed, built around the 46-48 reactors they found, and rebuilt 8 or so as a HiMo type. The Rodis are apparently as old as the Gundams and totally leftovers. The Grimgerde is a late war limited production model.
>>
>>14024120
They make a pretty big point about how MS aren't allowed in habitated areas because their Ahab Wave reactors wreak havoc on civilian electronics and the outage could cause a panic. So instead they mostly use battery-powered mobile armors that are glorified tanks.

Gjallerhorn also apparently doesn't have a lot of competition to put down, as Earth is pretty solidly under their control, the colony union was lucky to even get a couple mobile armors, and most pirates/private operators are out in the boonies of space. What rogue suits are out there mostly use nano-laminate so ranged weapons aren't as effective, and most mobile armors can be diced by a Graze rifle.

Mobile suits are just that good/that few, that they're so much of a walking WMD they don't need as much specialization.

Still need the medium green Graze from episode 16.

There is also the brown Ground Type Graze from episode 24.

Looks like all space borne and Mars ones are the standard EB-6 type and will equip the boosters according to their environment.

The ones on Earth are usually EB-06j that have hover heels, box type thigh thrusters better suited for Earth's gravity.
>>
The EB-06j is nice, a better medieval esque mobile suit being more ground bound and also has its battle blade mounted like those in Break Blade.

How many Leo are in one combat unit on screen? Grazes are usually in squad of 3 and no more than maybe 4 squads in one base, so mobile suits are a rarer commodity than the Leos in Wing.

The exception would be the fleet near Dort and maybe one cruiser has 1-2 squads.

So Grazes has the same status as GN-X IIIs from 00.

Seems that it works like this

>workers, tanks and infantry are common and used by everyone
>mobile suits are relatively rare and only mass-produced by Gjallarhorn and private companies with Gjallarhorn's tech
>mobile suits massacre tanks, workers and infantry but can't be used in cities due to treaties
>only people with mobile suits besides Gjallarhorn are space pirates and criminal organizations who salvage them from war ruins, but don't possess them in large numbers so just use them for piracy

Since Gjallarhorn has the most MS they're in charge. Their Grazes don't have many dedicated anti-MS weapons just rifles and axes for shooting up vehicles and infantry and cutting open workers. Which makes sense as they don't often fight MS.

They still work because they are military vehicles with shielding against ahab waves.

Ahab waves = Magic EMP
Civilian Shit not shielded
Military Shit shielded
>>
>>14027497
That's the thing I don't entirely get. These reactors put out waves, they don't really refer to particles much. Those waves have an effect similar to GN Drives where they don't just snarl radar, but all (unshielded ?) electronics in the area. Yet they can still talk to each other remotely. And these waves interact with a certain kind of paint to cause it to get harder the more waves it has and the more intense they are.

So are they just great big Choudenji Balls?
>>
>>14027497
Couldn't they just have shielded planes then?

It shouldn't matter that much anyways the range where it causes problems isn't that high.
>>
>>14026416
Those are just recolors of the space and ground types. I wouldn't really count them as a real variant.
>>
>>14025475
Gjallarhorn is supposed to have a monopoly on ahab reactor production. Thats why they have such a large amount of ms compared to everyone else and graze dominate the ms lineup.

Teiwaz is also supposed to be the only organization outside of gjallarhorns control in a long time to have designed and produced their own ms and frame from the ground up with the hyskuren and hyakuri.

And as you said, everything else is salvaged or leftover from the calamity war.

If you're still around, what I was thinking of going with was heads shaped something like a frogmouth jousting helm (pic related) wrapped around a glowing sensor core, with a boxy torso and long, slender limbs with longer calves/forearms than thighs/upper arms. Their pauldron armor comes to a slight point and their legs have thrusters at the heel, middle of the calf, knee, and mounted on a swallowtail-shaped backskirt.

Their standard loadout is a medium beam gun, rocket pod, or rocket launcher plus shield and a gladius that folds into the forearm. There's a variant model that trades the shield and primary gun for a heavy cannon. I have no idea what their shields look like other than that they're small and mounted to the arm rather than held in the hand.

The idea is that they're a simple, efficient, basic generation-two grunt whose main purpose in life is to bully space pirates.
>>
>>14029866
Graze's nano-laminate armor would net it the win.

Plenty of mecha out there have a similar aesthetic so you have plenty to draw inspiration from. Even the Savage I posted has a little bit of a knightly theme, with the head, collar, and upper chest reminiscent of a suit of armor. As for the head, it kind of reminded me of the big guyâ„¢ from the Thor movie. If you're going for really grunty, then probably tone down the agility or effectiveness of it (and its loadout). I can't tell if I'm reading it wrong due to exhaustion but it gave me a slender kind of image. When you think of the purpose of a grunt, try not to think in today's terms where grunts can do tons of shit on their own. Think of Soviet Russia in WWII/the Cold War. They built tanks that could move and not fall apart, but they had trouble doing both at once. Their advantage was in numbers, where they could overwhelm Germans like crazy, and I think they caught up to a 3:1 tank strength ratio to the US in the early 90s or late 80s. In other words, three of theirs could beat one of ours. That's the essence of "grunt" you're looking for. You could hardly call modern MBTs grunts in the same sense because they're so versatile and useful on their own, and there isn't really an upper class to be a grunt to.

Anyway I'm rambling. Keep working on the design, it sounds cool.

>>
>>14030214

>cross-legged just to fit between the thruster armor

>not sitting on their asses when doing field repairs, staying behind cover, or just getting knocked down

It would work a lot better if the thrusters just stays on the back, plus there is no advantage in placing them in the butt. The center of gravity is likely to be near the torso where the reactor is anyway.

Cross-legged is for stability (points of contact form a triangle on the ground) because that is a plastic model. The thruster binder armor is thin, there's more than enough room to put the leg in a more human-style kneeling pose.

>not sitting on their asses when doing field repairs
Debatable. They might as well be lying down, not much point in making the torso inaccessible to ground maintenance crews.

>staying behind cover
Sitting on one's ass is an awkward position in case the MS needs to get up quickly or shift position. Kneeling or squatting with knees bent is a much more ready position for taking off or moving. If you were going to say that sitting makes for a lower profile, then so would lying down..

>or just getting knocked down
That's not an intention of the design, regardless of whether it has an ass binder or not.

From the way he was talking I would have assumed he wasn't in any pain. Though I could be wrong and this is an eternity of agony.

Gundam Throne Eins and Xeku Eins.

Grimgerde doesn't use a Graze frame.
>>
>>14029855

It's stated that the Valkyrja frames were developed around the same time as the Gundam frames. They were the newer mass-produced models that would replace those that used the older Rodi frames.

The Graze frames were created after the Calamity War.

If only the assfins weren't scraping the ground

>They might as well be lying down
They can't do that too with the binders in the way. That's probably why all the other ground grazes removed them.

>awkward position
pic related

>not an intention of the design
Ground combat MS in a setting where melee is king is somehow not designed to get knocked down

It needs to be inadvertently cute

This pic reminds me that the had an animal theme with the gundams and they have gone nowhere with it.
>>
Well it's...their mass produced model isn't it?
>>
>>14030531
Shouldn't the graze be better then? Newer tech and 300 years to sort out the problems.
>>
>>14030660
It's not an animal theme, it's a demon theme.

Gjallarhorn banned the use of Alaya-Vijnana after the Calamity War. Newer mobile suits like the Graze had to be simplified for use by non-Alaya-Vijnana pilots. They had to sacrifice features like higher output and the ability to perform complex maneuvers for ease of use. The Schwalbe Graze is one of the earlier models that retained the high-output features, which is why only skilled pilots like McGillis and Gaelio makes use of it.

Graze Ein's is basically what a Graze would be if it wasn't constrained by the pilot's limits. It's implied that the Gundam Frames originally made use of the same tech during the Calamity War, i.e. they also had the pilots permanently grafted to the Gundams. This is supported by the fact that neither Barbatos nor Gusion make use of their original Calamity War-era cockpits. The dual Ahab Reactor set-up the Gundams make use of is probably just something meant to complement the grafted pilot's ability to control the mobile suit.

Wait, that's actually pretty fucked up.
>>
>>14031310
Yeah I know. Would have liked to see more stuff like that then hours of boring ass mob bullshit speeches of reiterated bullshit and faggot pirates.
>>
>>14031296
McGillis outright says that the gundams were built to make full use of the AV system.
>>
>>14031310

Well, it's made worse by the fact that kids and young adults are the most successful recipient of Alaya Vijnana surgery. So yea.

>>14031333

Yea. Up to now, people got the impression that the Gundams in this series appear to be severly underpowered, then you realize that the reason for that is that they aren't operating without a pilot permanently fused to them, as originally intended.

Thank you! The loadout is based on the original Zaku II, which typically came with a melee weapon, shield, and either a MG or rocket launcher. The biggest problem I'm having is actually the head shape. I like the frogmouth look, but an antagonist faction has mechs explicitly designed to look like knights. I don't know if the player grunts will detract from this or complement it. The other design I came up with had a rounded head with a fin and a Y-shaped "eyeslit", but it looked too much like a Flag in my head.

The design I came up with for space pirate grunts might be gruntier. They have an arrowhead-shaped body with a spherical cockpit that sticks out through the top and bottom of the arrowhead (top and bottom when the arrowhead is laid out flat) mounted on a gyroscope to stay upright regardless of which configuration it is in. They resemble ugly little space fighters until they rear upright and extend their spindly, folding limbs. Generally their loadout is whatever they can salvage from mining lasers to homemade missiles.

Look up medieval footsoldiers/infantry. They don't quite have a knight theme but I've always liked them and they're a good contrast to heavy hitters.

If you want to use a knightly look, consider some things from pic related. I don't know if a gladius fits the knight theme so well, an axe or retractable polearm would be pretty cool.

If you want to continue your current idea, then keep in mind that beams are pretty serious compared to conventional weapons, so you have to nerf them with literal plot armor. Zeta gave everyone Luna Titanium so even grunts could take a couple beam hits if needed where in 0079 they made mincemeat of anything. Grunts should be able to take what they deal. I actually misread it the first time as "beam gun + missile pods OR bazooka" so actually I think it's fairly balanced.

The "Blue Zaku" should've clued you in on the fact that it's a joke
>>
>>14031695

Thank you. The grunts I was talking about are Jovian Independent Defense Force units, though, the knight-themed ones will show up later from another faction. Still using your image, though!
