That's not really the case, though. Most generic LN protagonists are the main character just because they're the main character and super-strong, rather than because there's anything particularly unique about their situation. Being a fusion rather than just having a necklace, and having a scary and mysterious berserk form were two things that made Hibiki's situation unique and were reasons beyond "because she is" for her being central to the story - and as GX shows us, without elements like those, she just ends up blending in to the background, because there now ISN'T anything to make her stand out from the other important characters. Permanently losing the fusion was a mistake that needs rectifying.
