That was written so badly. I know the point Athrun was trying to make which was "Shinn don't fucking kill everybody" but since the plot demanded Shinn not ever listen to Athrun, he spouts nonsense half the time.
That's a problem with everyone actually. Destiny's real problem is nobody is allowed to communicate because they want everyone at each other's throats.

With Athrun, he keeps turning his back on his friends. He'll leave them behind to join another faction who he believes is doing the right thing, and then he gets mad at them for not seeing the bigger picture he never bothers to explain.
