May somebody be kind enough to do a list of recent Super Robot animes that are worth watching? It's for a friend of mine, he isn't into old stuff, sadly, and he already watched TTGL, Diebuster and Gunbuster.
I was thinking of Daimidaler, but I would like to hear /m/ suggestions too.

Fuck no, it is so lazy in its animations and designs it is repulsive; on top of that the moral is horrifically executed and the protagonists are (mostly) vicious fucks.

Taking that into consideration, things like the Dynamic Pro OVAs like Getter, Mazinkaiser, and Jeeg would probably be some good ideas. Shin Mazinger is a decent option after kaiser and maybe a bit more experience with Nagai, Godannar too since it's close to his cut off date. Also, consider trying to get him to read the Getter Robo manga at some point, though that will likely take some easing into for him.

Tetsujin-28 might fit (albeit barely, since it's 2004). Gaiking: Legend of Daiku Maryu is a decent fallback choice, even if AuraRoad suddenly stopped scrubbing for it.

Man, I liked Daimidaler a whole lot. Sure it's an ecchi show, but it's also a pretty good throwback to old-school hotblooded protagonists. The animation is very often well done, and the designs aside from Daimidaler itself are pretty nice imo. Plus, the humor really worked well, I think. I found myself laughing out loud during multiple episodes.

Asides from self-refrential stuff like Concrete Revolutio there's a bit of a drought in the release of super robot shows in the last decade, at least compared to the number of real robot shows we've been getting. From 2010 to now all we've had as far as super robots go are

Meanwhile we've had 7 gundam series (8 if you include SD Sangokuden and 9 if you count the TV version of Unicorn that starts next month), let alone the numerous other real robot shows like the MJP/Valvrave/Gargantia threesome of 2013 and others like Argevollen, A:Z, Cross Ange, and Knights of Sidonia. Even Symphogear is more Super Robot in spirit than most modern mecha shows.
Basically we're in another rut of mainly Real Robot shows like in the 80s. There'll be one or two here and there, but it's gonna be mainly real robots for a while until either 1) Dynamic Pro stops milking Robot Girls Z and decides to actually make a new Mazinger/Getter anime 2) Imagawa comes out of hibernation to direct a new series 3) We get a new show that's a huge hit with the masses (Like Gurren Lagann levels of popularity) that spurs others to try and compete.
