Does it matter /m/? Would you marry Jun?

Jun is nice, but Toei Sayaka is the best.
>>
>>14013968

Frankly if I had to choose a Mazin girl Id go with Yuuki.
>>
>>14013968
I've never seen anything Mazinger-related, shame on me.
But I like her looks. I think I'd marry her if she knows how to deal with children and how to cook.
>>

>I think I'd marry her if she knows how to deal with children

well she puts up wit Tats
>>
>>14013968
Is this fully subbed yet?
>>
>>14013968
Making Jun black was probably the best change Toei ever made to a series.
>>
>>14013996
I didn't know that. Toei is so weird. Compared to Mazinger, they completely butchered Getter Robo and Devilman, although Devilman is still funny if you look at it for what it is, rather than what it isn't.
>>
>>14014002
Devilman was a TV original. If anything, they butchered Demon Lord Dante, which the Devilman TV is based on.
>>
>>14013996

Jun wasn't black originally. Huh, I woulda guessed that was Go's call. He always struck me as rather progressive
>>
>>14014005
I'm not sure how it came to be, but Jun wasn't black in the Nagai manga. However, she was black in the Ota manga.
>>
>>14014008

man it's weird seeing her all pale like that. Going black really does make the design better.
>>
>>14013990
Mazinkaiser is a good place to start.
>>
>>14014035
>>14013990
Yeah, Mazinkaiser is like a distillation of everything Mazinger is about in 7 episodes and the failsafe way to create a new Mazinger fan. It even has a good dub back from the early 00s ADV/Monster Island heyday.

Important question - How are you with 70s anime, especially super robot? Considering that Mazinger is the first of its kind, it featured more creative and well thought content than most following mecha shows. Even Great Mazinger falls way behind Mazinger when it comes to quality. Honestly a couple episodes of Toei's Mazinger are enough to decide if you like it or not. Out of 92 episodes, I think only 5-6 were really bad, most of them were fun either because of interaction, episode plot or battle itself. And you're lucky since now you can watch it with good subs (I had to watch the FUCKING MISSILES subs)

If that's not your cup of tea, read the manga and watch Mazinkaiser like >>14014035 said. It was my first Mazinger too. Shin Mazinger is really good, but I feel it's better when you're familiar with Mazinger, since it focuses much more on Baron Ashura, and Kouji and Sayaka are really neglected.
>>
Was it a bad idea to start shin Mazinger first? I found a box set last year at a convention. I did watch it but not sure where to go from there.
>>
>>14014125

Shin Mazinger's good to watch after you've got a basic familiarity with the franchise and the works of Go Nagai in general. You can watch it first but there's a lot of references that will go over your head and it's really not indicative of anything else in the franchise. No Go Nagai work is as story driven as Shin Mazinger is, that's all Imagawa. Mazinkaiser gives you a better feel for all things Uncle Go and it's a short OVA. SKL's similar but doesn't quite have the same anarchic sense of fun. The 70s Toei series is the most influential incarnation and it's a solid monster of the week show, aside from being a fascinating historical case study where you can see a single cartoon slowly hammer out the basic structure and genre trappings of mecha.

If you like getting your dick ripped of, yes.

>>14014002
I dunno, I liked the Toei Getter Robo. I think it's sort of underrated to be honest.

It's better than what I've seen of Mazinger, at least, though that's not meant to be a knock at Mazinger.

I suppose that there may be good russian subs. Yeah, I'll start with the Mazinger series, when I'll be in the mood
>>

Either those, or wait and see if Sasword will end up plowing through the show after he's done with Goldran, or wait for Discotek to license it.
>>

Great, it's this memer again
>>
>>14013968
More importantly: is Great Mazinger manga fully translated somewhere? Dynamic Pro scanlation got put in hiatus after vol 1.
>>
>>14014978
No. Unless Starseeker or Happy Scans get interested, no one will take it.
>>
>>14014982
I've always been the TL on it, DP finally got a new TL to do chapter 1 of the second volume, I did my pass to check it over, sent it back, and have heard absolutely nothing since.
>>
>>14014005

Lotta series at that time had a lot of weird progressive stuff in them. I still remember reading Black Jack and his main love interest is a transgendered woman who he still loves.
>>
>>14014987
Shame about them being gone. I guess the efforts required to do Shin Zero were too much.
>>
>>14014005
From what I've gathered, somebody at Toei suggested making Jun black and Uncle Go's reaction was pretty much "wish I had thought of that".
>>
>>14014990
>transgendered woman
You mean a man
>>
>>14014994

Shame they didn't just drop zero and work on shit that isn't garbage instead.
>>
>>14015064
They did put out a Kyomu Senki chapter before croaking, at least.
>>
>>14014982
Well, fuck.
At least the anime is subbed, right?
>>
>>14015104
Unfortunately, only about half of it is. The main TL for it (Sasword) came back recently to help finish Goldran though, so you might get lucky if he decides to resume it afterwards.

I've heard in the original manga, Jun was always intended to demonstrate racism and fear of miscegenation, so she was made the daughter of a Japanese and a white American (topical to the large number of US military personnel throughout the country).

At some point, Nagai still liked the concept, but the white American parent was turned to a black American? Which may be a more effective way of demonstrating the same idea.

So I've heard anyway. Jun still best girl.

Yeah, I could have phrased that better, makes me sound retarded, especially when like a third of the plot is just expanded from the original manga. Mazinger is still fucking invincible, Dr. Hell is a still a man called Hell who was inexplicably given a doctorate, Baron Ashura is still the best character. I meant more the emphasis on a cursed family legacy (which is 100% Imagawa) and the whole plot being the struggle between Tsubasa and Hell trying to outsmart each other. Mazinkaiser was my gateway Uncle Go show, and I can imagine people who start with Shin would be confused by stuff like "Wait, where's Kouji's mom?" "Why is Tetsuya alive and not a cyborg?" "Why is Kenzo not a tentacle monster?" "Where the fuck is Brocken?"
>>
>>14018301
>especially when like a third of the plot is just expanded from the original manga.
More like 80%. The only Imagawa parts are Tsubasa and the Kurogane Five, which are just inserted into the manga storylines.
>>
>>14014054
I've only seen it on a bootleg DVD with borderline crabsticks. You know where I can find the dub to download/torrent?

Episode 1-10 = Mostly Imagawa
Episode 11-15 = Mostly plot from the manga, with Imagawa's additions
Episode 16 = Mostly plot from Ken Ishikawa's Relic of Terror one shot, expanded upon in future episodes
Episode 17-26 = Mostly Imagawa again, expanded by Z Mazinger

I wished Imagawa adapted the Dr. Hell / Juuzo storyline from Gosaku Ota's manga. Dr.Hell was so salty over Kouji's grandma.
