I'm not really sure how I'd directly compare IBO to Destiny. I'm definitely liking IBO better, but much of what bothered me about Destiny is the incongruity between SEED's ending and Destiny's premise and all the cut-and-paste OYW designs replacing the SEED grunt designs which were more interesting.

Honestly? As much as I'd like to have battles every single episode, I'd prefer they actually fit nicely in the narrative, not be arbitrary and forgettable clipshows tossed in for a quota. Having fewer fights but having them be better done and more meaningful as a result would be a nice change. Problem is, it leaves space to fill, and IBO has a hard time doing that. The narrative got stuck in a rut for most of the show, having neither battles nor any interesting story developments.

Agreed, the complaint isn't that it's inherently bad, it's just that everything around it is bad so people just want to get to the battles. And then the battles are poorly done. The battles have to have tension building up to make them important if you space them out.

That wasn't even the bulk of the fights. Kira really ripped shit up in the first half of SEED. Also his fights with Rau, Shinn, and Rey were a lot more than just "nonlethal beamspam". Yes, they got a lot of mileage out of that shot of Kira locking targets onto a bunch of blips reflected on his visor, but he was also very meelee-intensive between those multi-target bursts.

After they got the G-It guys off the Megafauna and were then immediately willing to negotiate with them for a fish dinner I just didn't care anymore. Not that I'd been enjoying it up to that point anyway, but after that I just looked for something else to do with my time.
But, to be fair, not every battle was a pointless mandatory-minimum-skirmishes exercise. They did happen, though. Everyone lined up side-by side, stationary in space, even the Mack Knife doing a looped animation of a pirouette that looked like it should have been slashing friendly forces. Then one side retreats and the other side literally says "They're retreating, we should do the same." which is NOT how a battle is won. Then again, everyone in Reco is supposed to be as ignorant about effective warfare as Carta is, so it's not like they were acting out of character. It was still dull to watch, nonetheless.

What floors me was just how out of touch with reality she was. It floors me how she seriously thought she could win a 3v3 against hardened veterans, children or not, when A) She couldn't even win with a small army at her back previously, with her personal retinue largely trashed by Mika himself, and B)She and her unit had no prior mobile suit combat experience of any sort before engaging Tekkadan in space.
If it wasn't for Gallarhjorn being run by some weird ass feudalism bullshit she would have been thrown out onto the street after that shit on the Island. She completely deserved to die, but I do feel sorry for the people in her squad

The entire reason she failed so horribly three times and got herself and her subordinates killed is because she's a noble in a uniform trying to pass off as a soldier, with literally zero actual experience or relevant training beyond the utmost basic 'this is how you operate a mobile suit'.
Anyone that would have given her actual combat training would have told her dumbass that 'chivalry' is not how the real world works.
