So uh

>pedals control verniers AND thrusters
>dual joysticks on rails control aiming and throttle??

How the fuck do you control a mobile suit?
I've bought a HOTAS+pedals setup for Elite Dangerous and I still have to setup shift keys for different motions, I have no idea how you could control a 4-limbed thing with some efficiency.

Why are there no Goufs in 0083?
>>
>>14008249
You don't.
The entire thing operates by bullshitium and drama.
Just enjoy how intense and awesome the pilots look while doing stuff that logically shouldn't work at all if you think about it for five seconds or spent any time trying to create a game or fake model based on that.
>>
>>14008269
Because the animation director had a quite obvious hardon for Doms and Gelgoogs.
We had to wait 0083 for the first mobile suit Dom kill on screen.

most likely macros and servomotors.

Pedal movement activates left, right, front, back and combinations for "balance;" the computer calculates to what degree each vernier must move and how much propellant to expend per vernier

Dual joy stick tracks control overall throttle for left/right pitch and yaw-- actual stick controls hand/arm manipulator macros/microcontrollers.

>tl;dr its all computer/macro driven with surprisingly minimal user input.
>>
>>14008249
You are not controlling the individual thrusters verniers. You are controlling where you want the suit to go and in what manner/speed. The suits learning computer actually controls the thrusters and verniers.

I would imagine the peddles have stirrups and move in three dimensional space, representing the position you are in and where you want to move to, while the rail joysticks control the hands and arms more finely, along with leaning and center of balance, and probably main thrusters.

The computer turns that information into a combination of vernier thrusts and AMBAC maneuvers.

Think like a logical conclusion.most extreme version of the fly by wire system used to control next gen fighters, which are purposefully designed to be unstable in flight to be nimble, and require computer reinterpretation of human directions to achieve the desired results.

I wish people would stop saying macros, you don't need them. Inverse kinematics has been a thing since robot arms have existed and it's way the hell more effective.

That shit doesn't even make sense. I'm sorry that this probably comes off like nostalgia fagging, but why do I feel like ever since SEED, a lot of these random bits of "good animation" look like a bunch of disconnected, Obari-esque keyframes that don't relate to each other at all? GBF doesn't quite count since he was on that, but yeah, "weighty" animation is hard to come by these days. Ironic too, considering weight is a very tangible advantage over the majority of the 3DCG mecha animation, but we're seeing less and less of it.

I imagine it works kinda like how my HOTAS (X-55) works with Elite. my throttle has thumb hat-switches on the side of the throttle handle itself that control the manuever-thrusters. Has a button on the front of the handle that control whether the thrusters work in forward or reverse as well. It's actually really damn intuitive once you get used to it and I've gotten pretty good with turning the flight computer off for some really tight, albeit dangerous, manuevering.

>TFW everyone in ED is flying like they are in airplanes because they either lack the skill or proper controls and head tracking for anything more complex
>TFW you throw them completely off guard by taking advantage of the fact you're in space and can move in any direction you want, more or less on a dime if you know how to fly without the flight computer on.

It's like having the ZERO system on.

it feels like all obari is doing is the stills
like ibos fights are just poorly animated distance shots wedged inbetween a bunch of glossy stills of the mechs posing. like its hoping you don't notice or forget the shoddy animation by distracting you with these detailed close ups. the thing is though, theyre in a completely different style to the regular animation and it just makes the difference in quality all the more obvious

QUOVADIS 2 〜惑星強襲オヴァン・レイ〜

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD26SmYEZOY

Great cut scenes but shitty ingame graphics. The gameplay itself wasn't completely horrible, though.
>>
>>14014040
I think I know what you mean.
"Good animation" these days just means inserting a bunch of detailed stills after each other. It's like >>14014040 you said said with >distracting you with these detailed close ups. There's very little in the way of actual animation and inbetween/frame count. Even Thunderbolt is guilty of this. Distract the audience with detailed close-up shots and make the actual fights just a bunch of really fast with flashy keyframes and then you've got "great animation". It's still a lot better than quite a few current shows, but it really lacks the fluidity lots of older, high budget releases had. I probably sound like a nostalgiafag or one of those "new anime is shit old anime is the best!" kind of people, but it's kind of true.
The only really recent shows I can think of that have really high amounts of keyframes and inbetweens (right terms here?), which results in fluid looking animation, like some older anime had are some scenes from One Punch Man and Haikyuu! S2 (and even Haikyuu reuses a lot of footage). Nothing else in recent memory really stands out. Maybe one or two scenes Concrete Revolutio. But that's it really, good animation is mainly limited to select scenes these days
>>
>>14012717
The gif you were replying to is used to point how bad the IBO animation is. It's nothing "Obari" at all. Nothing about that clip or most of the work on IBO outside of his own episodes (which is like 2) have any kind of Obari-ness to it.
>>
>>14014178
I didn't mean to say it actually looked like an Obari illustration. I'm saying the keyframes have these contorted proportions that seem utterly disconnected from each other, as if the key animator just put whatever exaggerated pose they could.

>>14014001
Ahh, I didn't even know. I lost interest in IBO almost instantly. I knew he was on GBF, but the animation held up pretty well there in most cases.
>>
>>14011003
When you can't see any of her skin in shots like that, it's easy to see how people often mistakenly assume she just doesn't wear pants and flashes her ass all throughout the film.

And even when you can, her leggings are still pretty close to her skin tone.

Hideaki Anno. Too easy. Some people seem to think that that was his first big animation job, but he was actually on-board for SDF Macross too, which is definitely a bit surprising since he's so rarely credited to that.

>>14017169

Macross had great animation, when it cared. It was more bipolar than 0079/
