The free jazz isn't my preferred style, but it's alright. I liked some of the zeek's music in episode 2. But really, what's nice about thunderbolt is that it isn't up its own ass. I quite liked Daryll's flashback bits in the second episode, they made me genuinely felt sad for the guy. There wasn't 200 lines of sappy exposition about his sad past like in other gundam shows, they just juxtaposed his happy past with his shitty present. Those bits were really well done.
His taste in music sucks though.

I also thought they were relatively well done scenes. Quick and effective and tells us all we need to know, and I thought the accompanying music fit pretty well. In particular I liked the flash back with him holding hands with his dad, the scene leaves off with us looking at his left hand. So when he wakes up and sees that he just lost that hand we can infer quite a bit about why that's so upsetting to him, that's the hand his father held etc.
Same with Io's flashback at the beginning, finding his dad who blew his own brains out during the fighting. Lets us rationalize why he's such a fucking asshole a bit more.

It's to the point that he has a lot of trouble piloting something that isn't the Psycho Zaku, because his prosthetics keep spazzing out. You see it when he's in the Gelgoog and in the Acguy. Both times, it nearly gets him killed, and he says that he needs constant tuning of his limbs to keep them functioning.
He's living on borrowed time. (Also, the fact that his prosthetics have the sensitivity necessary to control a Mobile Suit is a wonder in itself.)

It's more of an issue of we don't know if he has access to proper maintenance and the amount of stress he puts on his prosthetic due to the precision demands of piloting a mobile suit. I wouldn't say they nearly got him killed both times, but they are foreshadowing that if Daryl and Io get into another battle and Daryl isn't in a Psycho suit, his prosthetics bugging out is highly possible to give Io another free pass.
You have to remember Fisher yelling at Daryl to get out the ocean to keep his legs from rusting.

For this run? Not going to happen, it's panning out almost exactly how I predicted. So unless they write an original end, the series is going to end with them going to A Baoa Qu or Daryl and Io's conversation in the Brig. And considering how much more personal they made it for Daryl, where it was Io who took his arms, it's going to put a lot more weight on Io's words to Daryl.
Either way, some thoughts on episode 3.It was interesting that they cut down the amount of girls in the Feddie child forces. I only counted 4 when they had 12 or 13 in the manga.Also they showed how little training the Feddie children had since they didn't even scatter when they were under attack and just slowly got picked off until they managed to regroup. (Also they weren't given adult squadron leaders like in the manga,) The Zeon mobile suit forces were lucky to take out 2 or 3 before their position was compromised and they got destroyed in the mangaI wasn't able to figure out if it was just Sexton attacking or if he was part of a larger ambush, but if it was just Sexton, he was a monster who destroyed or disabled 12 mobile suits by himself. Few more tidbitsThe Feddie child soliders weren't in complete awe of the Gundam like in the Manga, some of them didn't even notice it until it was pointed out.[/spoiler[The Salamis' weaponry during its closeup shots were entirely beam weapon, even the guns that are normally conventional AA guns, not sure if that's an oversight or intentional since in other scenes you see them using conventional bullets.The music during Daryl's attack run on the Moore Fleet was a lot more akin to music from the 1940's as opposed to what we heard before in the scene where we first saw him sniping which was more from the 1970's.The Psycho Zaku's beam weapon looks like a compact version of the Rick Dom's Beam Bazooka.Another point of interest is the Dried Fish bridge's coloring is a lot more drab compared to the rest of the series. It makes me wonder if this was an intentional choice as well.

We need a higher quality shot, but only 2 looks like the Zaku got hit and didn't sustain damage. the other hits were completely realistic since none of them hit the chest or torso.
Meanwhile the shots from Sexton and Fishers were almost all on the mark. In fact Sexton's second kill look like he scored a direct hit on the GM cannon's cockpit where it just killed the pilot and didn't cause the suit to blow up so it just started to float away. Also remember most of them weren't attempting to dodge at all so that made it even easier to kill them. The only one really moving was the one GM Cannon trying to rally the others and because he was moving, only his shoulder got hit instead of a direct hit to the chest.
You can't blame the GMs where the pilots were all greenhorn children. You could have put them all in Gundams and they'd still suffer loses.

There's no confirmation, cause Io had quite a few kids with him when he finished wiping out the Zeon ships. When it goes back to him fighting Daryl there's already no one else to be found, but we DO know that the Fed survivors were literally within line of sight of their battle, so for all we know those GMs could have joined up with the survivors.
That's unlikely as hell though given how rape the Psycho Zaku was. Even Fisher was practically a nightmare for the kids, for Daryl it may as well have been fish in a barrel.
