I meant the voice actress m8. The only OVA I've seen is the last red shoulder. And I've got Mellowlink queued up. But judging by the end of the tv series, the rest of the post-show OVAs are retarded.
>>13996836
Roots of Ambition is great, and Big Battle is like an extra episode
>>13996867
I'll check those out too, thanks
Why the fuck would they ever make more shows about Chirico other than the first two OVAs

It's a little something called money
These guys have really poofy pants.

The suits think the formula for VOTOMS success is:
>Chirico + mechs + explosions
But his story is completely done at the end of the series. The two OVA specials flesh out some of his back story. There's no more reason to keep bringing this guy back. The universe is huge and I wanted to see much more of it, especially more of the war.
What else could they really do in the Votoms universe? Settings get stale when you rehash them and sci-fi settings like Votoms don't really gain anything from doing stories set in the past of future.

The "forever war" setting gets old fast. I guess if you want every OVA to be vietnam with robots it's great, but it's pretty samey.

I do like it when a mecha show acknowledges the robots as characters in their own right instead of just an excuse for a the MC to punch things way stronger than him

>Roots of Ambition is great
While it's probably the best action in the franchise Roots is quite goofy and take the whole overman invincibility thing to comedic levels.
Once you end the TV series it's probably best to think of all the OVAs as non-canonical side stories.
>>13998451
This is what I do for the ones that take place after the TV series.
>>13998391
Settle down. What people here want is OVAs that don't have Chirico anywhere in them. An adaptation of Blue Knight Berserga, one of Takahashi's Ganeshis novel that takes place 300 years later, or maybe a new story that covers life behind the Balarant frontiers. Fuck, even just one focused entirely on battling without any shady dealings involving the government would be nice.
But no, apparently the Japanese audience was fixated with Chirico to the point that they probably got sick of it (or at least Bandai was).
>>13998451
Last Red Shoulder is fine, at least.
>>13998451
Roots of Amibition is literally the best Votoms OVA hands down. If you don't like the part where everyone gets the creeps trying to kill Chirico then you're already dead.

I don't know, Chirico seems pretty chill for most of the series.
That song would totally fit for Young Chirico right after his adopted family and village gets wiped out by the Red Shoulders.
Also that is what is affecting him on the PTSD ship. His time in the Red Shoulders was just average soldiering for him. But the failed invasion of Sunsa which saw everything new knew and cared for destroyed.
>>14006287
I thought the OVA retcons where Chirico was didn't do anything bad as a Red Shoulder were pretty lame. The TV series is pretty clear that he committed war crimes during his service (like his little speech after Zophia left for the last time where he states he did shit similar to what happened to her family on other worlds) and whitewashing him years later is bullshit.
Then gain, most of the post-80s VOTOMS OVAs are bullshit in one form or another.
>>14006300
I thought in the series he admits he never took part on Sunsa and was somewhere else. He still bears responsibility for it and all the other war crimes he committed though.
>>14006310
That's what I was saying; he never participated in the battle that let to Zophia's family getting killed, but he did similar shit on other planets.
>>13996988
This would be much better if the autism rod didn't soil the left hand side
>>14007824
What's the rod in this case?
>>14006300
This.
In the beginning of the series ,he says that how he sincerely fought to protect his HOME PLANET but as the warr seemed endless he was fatigued like mny soldiers around that time.
Then in the Udoo arc at the moment he was interrogated at church he recall the hell he saw at various instances that killed his faith in God.
Both of these gave us the vibe that Chirico was just a normal dude who was good at AT and how he is just a soldier entagled in a big conspiracy, which is why the reason the last arc feels different that the whole series since it elevates him onto something very high.Which is why many don't like it .
Unfortunately most of the animated materials that followed the tv series centers story around this aspect and we get retconned prequels and make-chirico-suffer-more sequels.
It hurts because it ruins a tv series which never needed such materials in 1stt pklace while actual interesting things related tot he setting never got a chance to shine.

>The suits think the formula for VOTOMS success is:
Isn't it? It sells doesn't it?
>>14009992
I think it's clear there was a big rewrite at the end of the Kunmen arc. As soon as the Sunsa arc stats, all of the weird mindfucking starts kicking in with the PTSD ship. Rochina goes from trying to recover Fyana to stalking Chirico as soon as he joins Balarant.
>>14010205
They were writing the series as they went and had a "okay how in the hell do we finish this" session. Then they came up with the ending and worked backwards from there.
>>14010205
It's at that point that Fyanna and the PS program become totally irrelevant to the story.
>>14010224
The PS program is still somewhat relevant in the second half, but it takes a major backseat to the growing Wiseman story. Chirico being what was thought as a PS at the time was a big revelation in the story, Balarant attacks Chirico and Fyana on Sunsa because of their interest in the PS program, and Rochina tries to use Gilgamesh's interest in the PS program as a way to keep them off of Wiseman's home turf by offering up Fyana to them in exchange for them buggering off Quent.
>>14010209
I think they had a vague idea of a Wiseman-like character around the end of the Woodo arc, as Chirico calling Proto One Fyana out of the blue was a minor plot point during the police HQ raid, complete with Chirico saying, "Wait, why did I call her that?".
