IBO suffers in that it's just plain too safe and ends up being boring. It tries to cater to too many different demographics while subsequently doing nothing of note or even much interest.
G-Reco suffered in that it ended up being a mess due to Tomino being silly (and having too much clout to be controlled). Great ideas, poor execution.

Even though I was spoiled of who the killer was right after the first episode, the show still manages to be more tense and thrilling than almost any show of the past 5 years. I don't care for the "mystery", I doubt many people do. It just really pulls me in and gets me emotionally invested, especially with what >>14003178 said. Seeing what the MC will do race against time to save the girl(s) is really interesting. It did get worse in the middle but recently it's still been interesting, despite not hitting the same highs it did in the first 4 episodes. It helps not caring about the manga, not having my 4chan hate goggles and contr/a/rian hat on, and not surrounding myself with the toxic discussion and circlejerks on other sites either. Your enjoyment of any show goes up exponentially if you don't read about it or discuss it anywhere, especially 4chan.
