China has Armor Hero, there's a Thai thing called Bima the Garuda Warrior, are there any Korean toku series that aren't just dubs of Japanese stuff?

Korea's got Legend Heroes which recently started airing.
>>
>>13985592
I tried getting into Armor Hero, but I just couldn't. It was just awkward and was trying way too hard.

As far as chinese Toku goes, Giant Saver is way better, in that, it's still bad, but is almost a parody of itself (and sentai series in general) and is actually a fun watch if you don't want something serious.

Also, the company does it's own subs on youtube, which I'm ninety percent sure are just the chinese scripts run through google translate, sometimes with hilarious results.

Why is it that all the other countries have so much better-looking Mechs than Japan?

Japan stopped giving a shit to their mech design and just roll with whatever toy they could get from the bargain bin.

I hope that he/she is more efficient than the QCer that the group is constantly waiting after, otherwise that'll take years.

Why can't Saban just waste his money on making an original American toku? Like, Mystic Knights was pretty okay... right?

Second Armor Hero (XT) is my favorite. You can find the whole thing dubbed into English on Youtube.

I definitely think they learned how to make a proper show after the first series - after all, it was the studio's first hero show.

I grew up in Korea in the 90s, and it was a weird time.

The series I grew up with was MMPR. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Not Zyurangers, but Saban's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. So we had Jason, Billy, Trini, Kimberly, Zack, and Tommy.

I grew up watching a Korean dub of an English dub of a Japanese tokusatsu show. Fucking meta, man.
>>
>>13992327
Not as meta as Machiko Soga redubbing her own character in the Japanese dub of MMPR.

>>13989081
Because he progressively cut the funding on his own original shows in favor of his main cash cow.
>>
>>13992461
>Japanese dub of MMPR
What?
How?
Why?
>>
Why Korea and China never replicated the success of tokusatsu? Worst Korea make a lot of money with their awful K-dramas and its studios have what Japanese studios never had, total support from the government. Meanwhile, China has a long tradition of stunt actors way bigger than Japan.
>>
>>13992689
Probably because it's fun for them to compare Power Rangers entries with their sources.
>>
I tried the Chinese stuff, but every time they open their mouth I cringe a little. Is this what my homeland has become?

Korea and China love toku way more than modern Japan does
>>
>>13992877
No it has always been this way since the "Great" Cultural Revolution.
>>
>>13992720
Mainly >>13992900, though they do try it out sometimes. The most noteworthy case is China having a superhero movie from Shaw Brothers called Infra-Man, and it wouldn't feel out of place among other older toku productions.
>>
>>13985592
Seems South Korea had a fair amount of "toku" shows but they go forgotten or unnoticed. So finding them as an English speaker isn't easy.

One reason is Saban signed away distribution rights long ago to a company called MarVista Entertainment and it will be awhile before they will get them back.

But, two rumors I have heard from people who use to work for Saban Brands (take with a grain of salt) is Saban Brands worked with a small Irish production company but never gave them credit. Second rumor is a lot of Irish actors and extras were under paid or not paid at all. And to avoid lawsuits they've never put the show in syndication or gave a full home video release.
>>
>>13985766
Yeah, but the actual mech fights use a lot of shitty cg padding. The actual live action parts of it are..... Charming, in a real shitty way.

Chinese is a very diverse language. So much so that a person from one area of China might have difficulties understanding a person from another area. For nationally broadcast shows like Armor Hero, various dubs of the show are made and the actual spoken dialogue of the cast itself is never heard,

A lot of the voices the characters are given don;t actually match them. Like, at all.
>>
>>13994597
Right given the filming in Ireland it probably has to do with some sort of contractual stuff.
>>
>>13995505
>>13995528
Someone ask Angel how good her Korean is

>>13993382
S. Korea seems to have a complicated love-hate relationship with Japan. Its nationalism is built around the hate toward Japan for the occupation and the Koreans endure the horrible dictatorships and abusive elites with the hope of taking Japan down to the ground (k-pop is the official propaganda for maintaining the status quo) but at the same time they seems fascinated with the Japanese culture
>>
>>13995555
>Chinese is a very diverse language. So much so that a person from one area of China might have difficulties understanding a person from another area.

Imagine if the EU declared one day "The only language spoken in Europe is European." and that English/Welsh/Finnish/German/etc. were just dialects with a few local differences in spelling and pronunciation. That's basically what happened with Chinese.
>>
>>13992900
>>13992927
The wuxia dramas are basically Chinese tokusatsu but they suck almost as much as modern tokusatsu. They say 80s/90s wuxia dramas were great but there aren't subtitles available, just some low quality raws oin youtube
>>
>>13995668
The same thing happened with Germany and Italy after the unification. They're still struggling until now. The racial/cultural unity is a pipe dream, a romantic fantasy and nothing more
>>
>>13995664
That is all of East and South East Asia in a nutshell and not just Korea.

>>13995668
It's like if they declared Dutch or French or German the official language language of the EU and basically forced it down everyone's throats.

>>13995378
The dialogue. It's too cheesy for me. At least when I listen to Japanese, it takes a bit for my to process the cheese which give me time to suspend my common sense. In Chinese I immediately understand what's going on and I realize how ridiculous the whole thing is.
That's just me anyway

I'm open to the idea of translating it, but working on a 50 episode show sounds like a buttload of work so I probably wouldn't unless I 'reallyyy' ended up liking it. I still have my fingers crossed that someone else will sub it instead, but it's been two weeks since its premiere and nada...

And while it's true that we've been waiting for one of our pals, he's not QC

>>13995505
>>13995528

Korean is my first language, though I honestly wouldn't consider myself a translator

>>13995589

I was born and raised in the USA, so it's at this like "much better than you'd expect me to be" level... People are usually surprised that I can speak it at all, actually. Though I'll be the first to tell you that I'm far from perfect

Kinda but

It was still pretty fucking awful
>>
>>14001664

Who's NOP? I'm not very familiar with Korean subbers, I'm afraid

>>14001749

Uh, well... I guess that people who were born here aren't usually expected to be able to speak Korean, much less fluently. It's probably because English is so prevalent here. I used to think that assumption was silly, but I'm actually one of four siblings but my sisters can't speak it at all so... Though in my case, it may also be in part to what >>14001749 said because I'm often mistaken for someone who's "mixed" and yeah
>>
>>14004221
NOP is a guy that rips official English sub streams of various J-dramas, K-dramas and, more recently, CR's Ultraman releases.

>>
>>14006744

>>
>>13992202
No. And they don't got there until the second series. And the enemies they fight are from under the water. The show makes zero sense, but it honestly does it in a glorious way. Also, the mecha are early 90's sentai status. It's freaking amazing. It doesn't take itself seriously, which helps a lot.

The suits are actually really cool too, some of my favorite in the genre.
