Jerid's anticlimactic demise was thematically appropriate given the arc he took over the second half of the series.
Kamille moves past him and keeps focusing on the bigger problems of the war. Jerid focuses everything on 'MUST KILL KAMILLE!'
Their duel comes up and Kamille's basically going "What the fuck?! Are you STILL hung up on that?"
Kamille let their rivalry go pretty early on while Jerid just lets it consume him more and more, eventually losing sight of his goal of taking command of the Titans and failing to notice the house burning to the ground around him.
By the time they get to their last duel, Kamille has people and a cause he's trying to protect.
Jerid has practically nothing but the suit he's in and his anger.
To have him just get brushed aside so easily in favor of the bigger stakes feels fitting.
