Toei Channel is now airing the "super definition*" version of Kuuga, with two episodes every week. I'll be encoding these unless someone starts uploading bluray isos somewhere.

I saw that Toei are airing "HD" versions of the director cuts to the 555 and Blade movies this month. Would those actually be any improvement from the DVDraws?
I thought the last MFC's batch had those. So thanks I guess.

I would expect those are from real HD masters. Toei Channel's very good about not marking stuff as HD if it's just upscaled.
However, we don't have anyone who can cap the HD Toei Channel.

So the image is still practically just that small resolution the DVD encodes were?
Does the Kuuga Curse still happen even though MCS has a complete version of the series?
Like, the Kuuga BDs will never be completely subbed sort of thing?

It's from a source of the same resolution of the DVDs, but one with much better video quality.
The DVDs used the D2 broadcast tapes, a digital composite video. That's why the DVDs have a bunch of dotcrawl, rainbowing, and generally look muddy.
The BDs and the current broadcast use the composite masters the D2 tapes were made from, and have a nice, clean picture. So while the source resolution is unchanged, the picture itself is much closer to, say, Ryuki.

So if anyone were to make BD-sourced encodes, would it be advisable to shrink the image down to the same resolution as the DVDs?

Taking it down to 704x360 might be a bit much, especially since they cropped a bit off because the position of the picture does move a bit. I'd probably end up encoding it at 854x480 at 60fps.
