2 month passed already since it's introduction, and now the last 70s and 80s mecha thread is heading torward the last page to be archived then pruned. But fear not, here comes the new 70s and 80s mecha thread, ready to launch missiles and rocket punches! Been missing lately? Here's the previous thread >>13690998.

Most of you already know the rules, right? If not, here's what this thread is for: argue, discuss and dump stuff like artworks, fanarts (if they're well made of course), sketches, magazines' scans, artbooks, DVD/VHS/LD/CD/BD's covers, ads, musics, screen-caps and so on, that have a link to a Sci-Fi and Mecha anime/comic/novel/film/OVA.

If we're talking anime without HKs:
Mazinger Z
Grendizer (somewhat)
Combattler V
Voltes V
Zambot 3
Daitarn 3
Gundam 0079
Gatchaman
Casshan

Plus Future Boy Conan is a borderline case.

>>
>>14025064
Bakabt or Nyaa.se
[EG] is usually the best encodes.
If you'd like to stream it you can do that on sites like Kissanime but it's generally better to torrent.

I'm four episodes into Voltes V and I'm already having a grand old time. Watching the Voltes team dealing with their own problems as well as smashing the shit out of Beast Fighters has been pretty good. I was originally going to start Daitarn 3 first but Voltes came first, so here I am.

God damn why didn't I start watching the even older anime first? Where has this been all my life?
>>
>>14026310
>God damn why didn't I start watching the even older anime first?
Probably because most tend not to get subs very quickly or at all (see most things from the 60s or the Time Bokan franchise). On the bright side, this means that it's harder to wind up watching something bad for now. Also, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the twists.
>>
What do you guys think of Skaro Hunting Society other than being slower than even Live-Evil?
>>
>>14027615
They seem more efficient than Hikari-Senshi, if only because picking piss-poor translators doesn't happen as often. On the other hand, Nanto is such a stickler that he puts hardsubs on every release, even when he knows that's inconvenient.
>>
>>14027615
Good stuff apart from doing just random episodes of many shows. Collaborating with HnK helps thankfully. 60s anime needs more attention.
>>
>>14027729
>HnK
*HnG, you might have guessed.
>>
>>14024090
Is Cat's Eye or City Hunter considered to be the better series?
>>
>>14027931
City Hunter, since Cat's Eye eventually spins its wheels to the point that the anime allegedly doesn't get to the manga's ending before getting cancelled. CH is always episodic like say, Lupin the Third, so no need to worry about a goal, love subplots or other expectations.

No idea how the Cat's Ai reboot manga is, though.

I'm currently in the process of editing the LP OST to Tomonori Kogawa's "Greed" OVA from 1985. This pic is a scan I took of the last page from the inner booklet that's included with the album.

I think this is the staff that worked on the music but I'm not too sure.

No. In fact you can check his twitter @akiniina, he's fairly active there. Here's some fanart of some 70s toku ("Diamond Eye"?) that he posted last month.
Apparently he's working again, he often mentions it, but I don't on what. I don't think he has any series of his own going on.
>>
What are some 70's mecha with female villains other than Jeeg?
>>
>>14079575
Off the top of my head, there's the Time Bokan shows (not Yatterman, since the villainess in that gets bossed around), Daitarn 3 (which isn't apparent for a long time) and Daikengo.
>>
>>14079575
Cutie Honey, obviously.

>>
>>14079653
>Daitarn 3 (which isn't apparent for a long time)

Koros gets her debut fairly early, though? I'm pretty sure the episode with the three Meganoids on the Moon and their giant cut-earth-in-half disks was in the 10s, and she was definitely around by then.

Anyway, uh, Daltanius had a girl villain who's name I can't remember because she's fairly unimportant. And both Grendizer and Mazinger Z had a villain who was part female and part male, for all that counts.
>>

I think the anon meant female villains that are the de facto main villains, rather than subordinates/right hands. He should have been clearer about that.

Come to think of it, Combattler V has those too (even after the villains change midway through).

The female villain in daikengo has it's own boss too if I recall.

I wasn't sure where to post about this. If there's a newfag thread feel free to point me there.

I'm not new to anime in general, but my experience with mecha and /m/ is limited. I've seen the Gundam movies and a few modern mecha series here and there, but I'm not really sure which /m/ anons talk about most or would recommend. Of course I have no problem with older series or I wouldn't be posting in this thread.

It doesn't. Combattler V had some good ideas but only an okay series otherwise as long as you pretend the second half doesn't exist. Voltes V is an improvement over it in a lot of ways.

In fairness, Combattler was like Soda's Goggle V: playing it safe while getting his feet wet, in terms of doing robot shows by himself (given that he only did the second half of Raideen beforehand).

I still blame Godmars' writer for Combattler's ending though.

Neither the two generals or the empress in the second half weren't interesting characters. The empress spent her entire time screaming orders at the two. They gave a little bit of character to the general whose head blew up at the end but pretty much that was pretty much it.

The addition of the children and their comic relief was also completely unnecessary.

There were some good episodes though, the ones with Ryoumas... brother? rival? I forget, but as a whole the second half didn't do that much for me.

Admittedly Voltes V has it's flaws too. The show and the real story of the Go brothers chasing after their father didn't pick up until maybe a dozen episodes in. How it tied it all together in terms of continuity and the twists at the end were great.

I can forgive some of Combattlers flaws, given how common many of them were for shows that aired before and even alongside it. I still think Voltes is an improvement on some of the ideas Combattler had and is the better show.

On a completely unrelated note, Discotek announced their release of Gaiking for June 21st. I'm excited.

>On a completely unrelated note, Discotek announced their release of Gaiking for June 21st. I'm excited.
Me too. Any day where a Skaro/Luurah joint project gets pre-emptively cancelled is a good one.

Back on the Romance Robot side of things, Luurah is only 10 episodes away from finishing Daltanius!

While we have the mecha names in Macross be Destroid and Variable Fighter, any reason why for MOSPEADA, there seems to be none for both the motorcycles that turn into Powered Armor and the Variable Fighter-esque mecha? Let's see, MOSPEADA means Mobile Operation Soldier Protection Emergency Aviation Dive Armor, and should have been what all motorcycle that turn into Powered Armor are, but that acronym is only for the VR-052, given that there's the VR-038 Bartley and the VR-041 Blowsperior. Likewise with the Variable Fighter-esque mecha. I get it, there's only the Legioss, but in Macross, a VF-1 is a Variable Fighter, so how come no name was given to what a Legioss is?

Okay, episode 26 finished so I feel I can share some thoughts on the show now.

Why is Combattler a combining robot, exactly? There's no reason for the robot to have 4 pilots since you hardly ever get to see them doing anything and even when you do it's super vague. It's amazing to go entire episodes without one of the main characters getting a single line of dialogue in. I think Chizuru had exactly one word of dialogue in episode 26.

The enemy mech designs are pretty uncreative. The sound effects for them are hilariously bad (literally a person going "grrr").

I do think the the cyborgs with no lower body teleporting into walls was cool, though.

>there seems to be none for the motorcycles that turn into Powered Armor

The Ride Armor System is the official name for the transforming motorcycle armor.

>MOSPEADA should have been what all motorcycle that turn into Powered Armor are

The MOSPEADA is the most mass produced of the three model variations, and because the show's leading character uses it, it makes sense that the show would be named after it.

>how come no name was given to what a Legioss is?

The Armo-Fighter Legioss is initially produced in three model variations: AFC01H, AFC01I, and AFC01Z.

Toei wanted to have the second coming of the Boss Borot crew and ride on their success as much as possible with their own imitations. Both Daltanius and Kotetsu Jeeg have one, though I'm not sure about Toei Getter or any others.

>>14121025
Episodes with the children start to taper off past 40. If you do decide to hang on, there are some pretty good episodes in the 40s.

>>14121636
For Toei Getter, Genki was mostly a sideline character who had a few good episodes like G's episode 14.

Toei Getter's comic relief instead came from the other inventor and his robot who were introduced somewhere around halfway through. He wasn't really a character in G though which was a good call considering the difference in tone between the two series.

The Daltanious kids weren't awful.

Grendizer had Danbei as the comic relief character. He was pretty alright.
>>
>>14121691
Getter Robo's are scrubs and not finished yet (since Caffin is more sluggish than even Skaro).

>>14121704
>Grendizer had Danbei as the comic relief character. He was pretty alright.
Although that's partly since he completely stops appearing about 3 quarters into the show. Also, johnnyenglishsubs is working on better subs by using the more accurate French ones, just so you know.
>Getter G
How are the crabsticks for those, by the way? Are they alright or SEDUCE AWAY THE GETTER tier?
>>
>>14121691

>>14121722

Caffin's possibly dead: (abookoffaces).com/CaffinSubs/posts/1117428058298088

G's crabsticks are an improvement. Grammar is still spotty but there's no major fuck ups.
>>
>>14121731
A shame, but at least a new successor would just need to do half. Good to hear about the G subs though. Also, a few other Boss Borot and gang clones and such I've forgotten to mention.

Golion had the family of mice that Princess Fala interacted with. Granted, that may most likely have been done to imitate Disney's Cinderella as well.

While live-action, Sun Vulcan had Sukehachi, who was largely redundant since the show already had enough comic relief.

On the non-Toei live-action side of things, there was Super Robot Red Baron's Inspector Kumano, who was awesome whenever the situation called for it.
