The Gameboy wasn't held back by horrible controls. Neither is the 3DS or Vita in today's market, for that matter.
There's a major limit to the kinds of games that you can do well on a small touch screen interface. The buttons need to be large enough that you can hit them accurately, without having your fingers or the buttons get in the way of things that you need to be looking at. This works fine for certain types of puzzle games. For anything else, it requires a choice between dumbing the game down or making it awkward to play. This is why core games will never work on phones until they produce a phone that excels as both a phone and a game console with proper controls.

It would be too easy to tap on the wrong spot and screw up your whole turn unless the map was VERY zoomed in. When I say "big buttons", I mean that they take up like 1/10th of the screen, minimum.
Of course, making the map too zoomed in would make it a pain to navigate the map. The solution is to just put the game on a system that doesn't doesn't suck for playing games.

Honestly, the sound of Korean isn't too far off from the sound of Japanese. It has enough similarities that it apparently throws off people who already know Japanese. If I didn't know a fair bit of Japanese (in the 6k~ vocabulary range; not just tidbits that I've picked up watching anime), I might not be able to differentiate between the two unless it was a side-by-side comparison.

If your out and about in a place where busting out a 3DS may be frowned upon, then phone gaming is better than no gaming.
It's also cheaper (and more portable) than the newest Wiibox 4. And let's not forget that it killed any chance of there being a Vita successor.
Heck, mobage even drove Nintendo to partner with DeNA (famed for buying out MAL and ruining every game they touch with unchecked greed) because their new "unified gaming platform" will (presumably) be based on Android.
