Does anyone have the translation of Tomino's interview with Gundam Ace that Yaraon! and later ANN distorted into "Yoshiyuki Tomino Admits Story Problems in Gundam Reconguista"? I can find a lot of mentions of an anon translating it in the archives but I'm finding it hard to find the actual thing, probably due to the old archives dying.

For someone who doesn't speak Japanese, the most enjoyable way to watch G-Reco is with the subtitles off. Just soak in the visuals and fill in the story with your imagination.

He isn't saying it was confusing, so if someone can find flaws in G-Reco while actually following the story they can realize that IBO has awful writing. I love G-Reco but I agree that Tomino could have done a little more to show how abstract the fighting was, for example. It doesn't mean that he did a terrible, unsalvageable job of it, or even a bad job. Shows can have minor flaws in storytelling and still be good.

G-Reco is like the mecha anime equivalent of pic related. Created by highly talented people who are all clearly enjoying themselves, but the story boils down to "lmao there was no real reason for any of this stuff".

Except that's exactly how it is portrayed in the show. The link to Japan's remilitarization isn't and would have to be heavily implied, but Tomino stated it outright in an interview.
