All the sources people point to saying there's going to be a second season are all just things calling this the first part. There's nothing that ever *directly* references or states that there will be a second part any time soon. Unless it's a timeslot change, there's no way the show will continue until Summer 2017, and this doesn't have the hype 00 had to keep people invested. Maybe that's why they're starting the side-story manga, but as it doesnt look like it has any connection to the show save for the setting, I doubt it will bring people back to watch IBO S2, if there is one.

If there is a S2, I really, REALLY hope it has a new production staff, and is like, set 30 years into the future (with a new cast of course), and Calamity War 2 is happening as a result of S1 ending up shattering the current united state of the world.
The different blocks already seem to be waiting to go at each others throats as it is, and Mars Independence could be seen as being the seed that causes other areas to want to break off too.

Honestly the most obvious sign we're getting a season 2 is how fucking slow the pace for the show became in episode 10. This looks like it was not planned for 2 seasons, but made with the potential that they could fuck with the script if they chose to do so. It does really look like a S2 budget was confirmed after the show aired the first several episodes and they started slowing down the story to accommodate.

I can confirm that this not true especially when this was the age before two cour splits became a regular thing and you got a second season based on how well you performed. At most continuation speculation came about in the second half when the clip show came about and then we got a leak that confirmed it which is why everyone started freaking out when Lockon lost an eye and thought his new eyepatch look was going to be a new character design for S2 but little did we know he would die an episode later.

I think he's saying that, because of Sunrise's characteristic Engrish, when they say first part they mean the first part of the show, the first 13 episodes. Episode 1 - 13 was the first part that created the setting and the "plot", 14-18 was mostly filler, and 19 - 25 is the final part, the climax of the show. Climax as in the events that unfolded in 1 - 13 will have a pay off in the next few episodes.

-Gundam Astaroth: owned by Volco, Argi pilots it. The only original parts left are the head and the Gundam Frame, the rest of the armor is a patchwork from different MS and so its appearance has become distorted.
